Patang Re-Evolve: A Culinary Climb with a Million-Dollar View
From the moment you step through the doors of Patang Re-Evolve, located majestically on the 8th floor, luxury unfolds. The entrance itself is a testament to opulence, setting the tone for a fine dining experience my fiancé and I won't soon forget.
But the real magic unfolds as you slowly ascend to your table. Patang Re-Evolve's revolving restaurant concept is unlike anything else in Ahmedabad. As the city stretches out beneath you, a breathtaking panorama comes into view. Sure, it might not be a million-dollar metropolis, but the panoramic view of Ahmedabad, with the Sabarmati River sparkling like a silver ribbon, adds a touch of romance to the atmosphere, which I enjoyed with my Fiancé.
The 14-course meal is a whirlwind tour of culinary delights. We start with a welcome drink, a refreshing watermelon mocktail, to quench your thirst before the adventure begins.
Course 1: Green Pea & Capsicum Soup (A Warm Up)
Our journey begins with a comforting green pea and capsicum soup. While perhaps a touch predictable, it serves as a gentle introduction to the symphony of flavors to come.
Course 2: Rethink the Basket (A Missed Opportunity)
The soup is accompanied by a basket of accompaniments. Here, Patang Re-Evolve stumbles slightly. While the mango salsa chutney and dip sound enticing, store-bought nachos, potato biscuits, and khari puffs feel a bit out of place in such a luxurious setting. House-made starters would elevate this course significantly.
Course 3: The Cheese that Stole the Show
Next comes the "cheese garlic beard," and let me tell you, the name doesn't do it justice. The accompanying cheese spread is pure magic, a creamy, flavorful delight that will have you reaching for more bread (hopefully, house-baked!).
Course 4: Salads with a Twist (Sweet or Bitter?)
The custard pineapple salad throws a curveball. The concept is intriguing, but a touch of bitterness takes away from the enjoyment.
Course 5: A Makhana Revelation
Thankfully, the Old Delhi Makhana Raj Bhog Chaat is a revelation. Who knew this humble ingredient could be transformed into such a flavorful and innovative dish?
Course 6 & 7: Global Fusion Delights:
Next, we embark on a global adventure. The falafel with amrasi is a winning combination, and the mango sushi, despite sounding unorthodox, surprisingly works.
Course 8 & 9: East Meets West (A Hit & Miss):
The Thai Pad Manchurian is an absolute triumph. Mexican pizza was a let down
Course 10: Aglio Olio to the Rescue:
The aglio olio pasta, restoring our faith in the savory courses. Simple yet perfectly executed, it's a reminder that sometimes, the classics are best.
Course 11: Indian Entrées (A Mixed Bag):
The second entrée course brings a selection of Indian breads and curries. The biryani and mung dal masala are commendable, but the palak paneer and gutta curry feel a bit ordinary.
Course 12: A Palate Cleanser (A Welcome Break):
A refreshing ginger jaggery ale serves as a palate cleanser before the grand finale.
Course 13: The Mango Marvel (A Close Call)
The mango marvel tart is a beautiful sight, but the crust falters here. A soggy bottom detracts from the delicious mango filling.
Course 14: Welcome drink
Watermelon mocktail
Despite some inconsistencies, the overall experience at Patang Re-Evolve is truly special. The revolving restaurant concept, impeccable service, and several standout dishes make it a memorable evening for my fiancé and me. With some improvements to the weaker courses, Patang Re-Evolve could be an unparalleled culinary destination in Ahmedabad.
For ₹1500 per person (including tax), the experience, including the unlimited portions, is good value for money.
We had so much fun exploring the unique flavors and the breathtaking views. We'll definitely be back to see if Patang Re-Evolve has ironed out a few of the kinks and experience this delightful culinary adventure all over again! Read moreMy 2nd visit to Patang (1st after renovation) was a mixed bag. What stood out for me was the service and a few dishes. Chose their 10 course Chef tasting menu to get a taste of everything. Menu is all encompassing and has good variety of Asian and Indian dishes.
Coming to the first course - Amuse Bouche. This one bite pre-appetiser included Thayir Sadam Arancini topped with Alam Chutney. Edible charcoal coated curd rice arancini balls were tempered just right to get the feeling of curd rice. The ginget chutney atop gave a good punch to the rice balls. One of the best renditions of arancini I have had in recent time. Note: Amuse Bouche is a single serve dish in this unlimited menu. I guess good things are always portioned.
Tropical Detour had Orange, Beetroot and Thyme in the mocktail but honestly it was just diluted orange juice. Couldn’t taste beetroot or thyme at all. Passable
Jhol Momo Soup and Veg Chowder soup both aced the taste. Jhol Momo Soup was spicy and the momo in it had generous and tasty filling that complemented the broth well. Veg Chowder- the thickish soup tasted better than at many other places serving the chowder.
Indian Tapas Course was the weakest of the lot. Aamr Paneer Tikka - My hopes were high with these but this dish failed miserably for me. There was nothing Aamr about this Paneer Tikka and even the marination lacked taste. It was overpowered by elaichi. It was undercooked in the tandoor making it taste like Elaichi Paneer cooked for bare minimum time. Wasn’t upto the mark. Galaouti Chaat was underwhelming too. Both the chaats looked different too. One had Makhana. The other did not. With a name like Patang, this isn’t expected. The service and the presentation has to be top notch. The idea if Galouti Kebab made into a chaat is questionable. When it comes to Kebabs I would like to be traditionalist than experimental.
Futomaki Roll, Drunken Noodles and Caprese Pizza did well. Drunken Noodles stood out and was the only dish I went for a second serving. These 3 dishes were the representation of world cuisine and for a menu like this made good sense and selection.
Kashmiri Chaman from Indian mains did not impress me because it tasted more like Paneer Makhani than it being a Kashmiri favourite. Again laced with too much elaichi, this dish did not appeal me much.
Dum Subz Miloni was a better option in curry with seasonal veggies were made into a green gravy. It also went well with Kali Mirch and Pudina Rice. Masoor Dal was a let down in terms of choice and taste. I understand it might have been included to give a different dal than the regular Dal Makhani and Dal Tadka.
Out of all the breads Butter Naan stood out than Butter Roti and Masala Missi.
Last course, the dessert had Coconut Mango Panacotta. The mango part at the bottom was synthetic pro max. The coconut part was mind blowing. If the enitre Panacotta was made of Coconut sans the mango, it would have been one of the greats.
The service was immaculate especially by Krishna. We were taken good care of by him. Priced at 1500 per person it isn’t too bad. You get to see the entire Ahmedabad from 220 feet above the ground level. But the finesse that a tasting menu should have was missing. Chaats have to be identical. There is no two way about it. My first visit was better before Re-Evolve when the food was by TGB. I don’t know about now. But some of the dishes from my previous visit is still etched...
Read moreI went today for lunch 2.00 pm-3.30 pm slot. We are party of 4 adults and 2 kids.
Good things about patang:- View from the restaurant Quality of food Variety of food Customer friendly staff... Mr Pradeep and his coworker were kind and friendly. Kid friendly
Big Negative points :- Not worth the price.
It is supposed to be a classy affair .... instead there was a chaos and lots of noise when we reached there.
We informed server that we are here for first time...please explain us how this works. .... he was Impatient, he made us rush through our food order.
They say... they charge 1500 per person. .... they never mention that the final bill can be more than the amount they are charging per person. The server told us .... "sir, while.ordering when you surpass your paid amount we will let you know that you are exceeding your paid amount." Now the thing is.... even if you order 1 starter, one soup, one subji-roti, one daal-chawal, desert....for 2.people.... you will surpass the amount you paid. Is it worth coming to such a classy restaurant ... and then calculating in your mind everytime you place your order or waiting for.your server to tell you that you are exceeding the amount you paid??????
We spent 10000 on today's lunch....but we had a feeling of rush ..... we ended up having g mixed feelings about the restaurant while leaving from there.
We were not given proper information about the payment upfront .....
We were super rushed to place our food order. The server didn't knew what to recommed according to our likes .... he told us what sells the best there.
Bill Kitna krna woh customer.ki choice Hai... par khane k vaqt calculate krna ... is just not OK...when you are visiting restaurant of this level.
Table layout is too congested. May be 1 table less would help.
SUGGESTIONS...
Menu is really really full of variety...quality of food is unmatched . But.. please give time to the client to figure out the menu. ..as it's not colloquially familiar. It's a Patang Experience..... we entered into a fish market kind of place (that much noise...hustle and bustle of staff).... and we left with dissatisfaction. We didn't got the Patang Experience ...we had it before.
Please give suggestion on uniqueness of the food or the likes of the client....not on the best selling product.
CONCLUSION .... Earlier, The buffet was way way way better than this. I have The Patang Experience before (2010) ... buffet is much much much...
