Sankalp Ashram Road is a Restaurant I love visiting over and again. Once upon a time, when TV was in a budding stage, a smart person thought of starting a restaurant with a colour TV wherein the diners could watch movies while eating or eat while enjoying the movie on TV. This idea was highly successful in Mumbai and was started off here in aapnu Ahmedabad. It was in early eighties or late seventies -- difficult to remember -- and the restaurant was aptly named VIDEO. It served Authentic South Indian cuisine and I loved the filter coffee. Changing times led to switch of owner and with that was seen the exit of the TV and the name. Once again, a chain of restaurants acquired this restaurant and renamed it as SANKALP. Yes, I am talking about the place in Embassy Market behind Sales India-- Ashram Road. Incidentally, this is the only Sankalp I like to visit to satiate my taste buds. None of the others even remotely match the taste and service proffered here. Tonight was a time when we, I mean me and my better half had no choice save eating out. 10 pm is no time to start cooking. It was a long time no see with the joint under review, so we headed North and to our delight, we got seated immediately upon arrival. Immaculate Bisa Belle Hulai Anna was my choice and upon request they generously added a bowl of Rasam. Wife chose Mendu wada. The wait for the dishes was agonising, but, we bore it. I must add a warning here for those who eat fast -- the food served is piping hot, and not steaming hot. So take it slow and steady. Finally, the pan was also highly tantalising and, unashamedly, we asked for another one. Got it with a smile. I took a long time, savouring each and every morsel and satiated my taste buds to the entire satisfaction. The service competed with the taste and I marked both as same cos of my inability in determining the better one. Highly appreciated and...

I recently visited Sankalp Restaurant - South Indian Restaurant, Ashram Road, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad and had a wonderful dining experience. This place is one of the most authentic and premium destinations for South Indian food lovers. The ambiance is clean, spacious, and gives a traditional South Indian touch, making the dining atmosphere very comfortable.
We tried several dishes, and each one of them was flavorful and freshly prepared. • Vaghar Idli – Absolutely delicious, soft idlis tempered with aromatic spices. The presentation was very good and taste exceeded expectations. • Cheesy Spring Dosa – A creative twist to the classic dosa. The dosa was crispy, loaded with cheese, and served hot. It was unique and satisfying for someone who loves a fusion of Indian and modern flavors. • Mysore Chatpata Masala – This dish was a delightful surprise. The balance of spice and tanginess was perfect, giving a truly authentic Mysore-style taste. • Masala Papad – Crispy, fresh, and well garnished. A perfect starter to open up the appetite. • Idli Vada combo – Soft idlis and crunchy vadas served with chutneys and sambar. The sambar was rich in flavor, making the whole dish complete and comforting. • Mysore Filter Kapi – The best way to end a South Indian meal. Strong, aromatic, and served in the traditional style which enhanced the experience.
The service was quick and attentive. Staff members were polite and guided us with recommendations. Prices are on the premium side but totally justified considering the authentic taste, hygiene, and portion sizes.
Overall, I would highly recommend Sankalp Restaurant Navrangpura to anyone who loves South Indian cuisine or wants to explore authentic flavors in Ahmedabad. A perfect place for family dining, group outings, or even business lunches. Surely, I will visit again to try more varieties from their vast menu.
Read moreSankalp chain is very well renowned in Ahmedabad and has its branches outside India, too. Therefore, its evident that they have been doing the food right in order to succeed this way. Saffron, Sam's pizza, and Sankalp chains are their brands, and this was a discovery for me when I visited their outlet at Ashram Road. Although it was semi operational due to rainwater flooding in half of their restaurant, they still managed to operate with efficiency and provided seating for waiting customers . Loved the 3 barrel dosa, Indian bhaji dosa, and the sizzling brownie. The highlight of their food is the chutneys and sambar, which are mouthwatering. The price point of essentially dosas (ranging from INR 200 up to 950) is quite high and makes it of the range of Chutneys chain in South India. Their Thatte idli, however, was a disappointment given the high price of INR 150 despite which the idli wasn't that Thatte in essence. Overall, the outlet ambiance is average (special mention: this outlet isn't wheelchair friendly), but the food and...
