Potbelly Divine

This was a tricky one to review. You don’t want to shit all over a place specially when you might not be very familiar with their cuisine. That being said, Potbelly Divine serving Bihari food is not my type of cuisine.

Located in 32nd Avenue, which stands tall on the graveyard of one of my favourite childhood memories - the 32nd milestone go karting area, Potbelly Divine is on the 2nd floor which gives you one of the better view of 32nd avenue without the on-ground hustle bustle making you feel like you are just in a better looking Old Delhi street.

First up, the servers are extremely polite and attentive, unlike other places where I might have to cold DM some servers to even look at me and take my order so that is a plus (I am talking about you Sandhouse - I was your first, okay? Like a nepo baby, I need some entitlement but that is a story for another review).

We ordered the Keema Platter and against my better judgment, a sweet Sattu Cooler. Now, I know Sattu is usually Salty and a summer drink but I already have Safi level trauma that kicks in every time I have salty Sattu (fk you Ayushmann Khurrana and your Sattu interview). I have had Sattu 5-6 times before today and it has never not tasted like regret to me. I was so close to ordering their iced tea but I decided on sticking true to the Bihari cuisine trial we were there for.

The Sattu Cooler came first and while it started okay, they had gun and some other sweetener in it. The aftertaste was like my Social Science scores in 6th grade, bad. The taste felt worse with every sip of it. At some point, I started developing a sort of anger towards a Bihari friend of mine. 5 more sips and I might have ended my relationship with him.

Luckily, before that, the Keema Platter arrived. It has a tomato chutney with onion seeds aka Kalonji and a Hari pudina chutney with enough mustard taste to make a Bengali snort it. The Hari chutney could easily be used by Nitish Kumar to build back his alliance with the INDI bloc at some point in the future. There were 4 mutton keema gold and 2 keema aloo chop along with 4 tiny mini paranthas and 2 harvest paos.

The keema aloo chop had elaichi so big that halfway into chewing it down (the forever struggle of should I spit it or chew this weird thing I am having dilemma kicked in) I contemplated adding some masala and garam dood and boiled milk in my mouth and do a gargle to just make tea out of it. The keema goli took the best part of mutton and added things to make it worse. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would turn to the Sattu Cooler to gulp down the food I ate.

I turned to their drinks menu to save this meal and finally ordered the Apple Cinnamon Iced Tea. It was the sole saving grace of the meal and is a drink that is the second most recommended option to have at Potbelly Divine coming in close second to just going there and talking to their servers who make you feel heard! Best therapy out there.

Overall, I might try them again to alter this review but based on the limited things I tried, I don’t see it happening...

I am a big time foodie and love to try all the regional cuisines. Have been a fan of the food at potbelly ever since it first opened in Shahpur jat.

This particular outlet is beautiful in terms of their ambiance. You will love to dine in here and it will definitely add to your over all experience.

A big positive thing I want to mention is and happy doing is the quality and taste of their food- it really hasn’t changed despite of the years in operation. It’s the same and that’s excellent. They’ve maintained the consistency.

I took my friends parents who are Malayali for a dinner at a Bihari cuisine restaurant and they absolutely loved it, I couldn’t be happier.

Food we ate-

We wanted to have mutton paaya as soup but they were out of it.

So we started with starters-

Fish chokha Marua roti- this was small rotis made of Marua flour which is a millet flour, topped with mashed fish with spices. It was delicate and nice.

Chicken pakora- well it was raining and a hard core non veg got its due share of chicken pakoras, what more could we ask for. Perfect it was.

Champaran mutton thali- this was cooked in ghee and accompanied by spinach pooris, was way too delicious.

Jhinga machli- paired it with steamed rice and was distinct and delicious in flavour.

Chicken khada masala- I was sceptical before ordering this as this would have strong pungent taste of mustard oil and for coconut oil eaters it might be too strong, but the server suggested we try this and to my surprise my guest loved it and so did I. We absolutely loved its flavours, deep and rich.

We ordered mirch masala lemonade to wash all this down.

We ended our meal with pineapple upside down cake- it was addictive.

Overall the whole experience was lovely and we almost felt like we went in good heaven. I highly...

Ok so this was an unplanned visit to the Pot Belly. We were going for another place but we parked in the wrong place (entirely lol) and headed up here finally. We often spoke about it and we’ll, I guess today was the day. We started with the Rose Iced Tea along with a Sattu Cooler and an appetizer! The rose iced tea was seemingly very home made and lacked the taste and flavour as one could expect. The Sattu cooler too could’ve been better without the ice and the straw it came with which only clogged up like a kitchen sink. Don’t hate me, either get a thicker straw or simply remove it. Which I did in the end. The flavour although wasn’t as good as the ones I’ve had traditionally. The appetizer we were recommended by our order taker Manoj was nice and light. It was good in taste, the chicken was cooked well and the spices had been infused well making the chicken nice and tender. The main course we initially received was actually a western cooked chicken that was more like a white sauce chicken. Disappointment was served but Manoj sensed that and he offered to change it. The good thing is that the replacement was much better and actually better suited for the traditional food we’d hoped to consume. The sad thing was that by the time the replacement came over, we were already done eating. The bill: 1715 for the aforesaid items but still, I wouldn’t spend that kinda cash on traditional Bihari Food that wasn’t as authentic as one would expect. Especially having food in Bihar and Jharkhand. I’ll leave it to you to explore their food and make ur own judgement. Enjoy your meal!!
