This is one of the oldest restaurants I remember since childhood..... So e decided to try it for old times sake [Its a solid 4.5]
Venue 3/5 The décor is more or less the same it was like a decade ago ... the moment you enter you get a fresh spice or wood smell and its okay like a trip to the 90's setting of a restaurant that you would see in a movie.
I feel the tables have slightly changed as they had a table cloth before [I think]. Overall not bad but outdated look
Music NA So there is no music but the sound of the AC is slightly loud and can break the awkward silence moments.... conversations are not hindered ... just another classic 90s Indian restaurant thing
Starters 4.5/5
Chicken Cut Roast BL Russion Salad French onion soup
The russian salad as very nice, good amount of serving and a right balance of mayo and vegetables. Usually, for us parsi's we have it ith fish or shredded chicken [Mumbai classic] but this was vegetarian.
The chicken cut roast again had a good portion and was surprisingly quiet spicy .... I feel the pepper or garam masala was powerful but nice.... The chef smartly pairs it with a green mint and raw tomato sauce [sweet, no need of a hot sauce here] to balance off the tastes.
The French onion soup was different but good.... usually the soup should be thick and have a stunning bug piece of bread. Instead, the soup was more of a clear broth with a ball [decent size] of cheese, fried onion and a bread crouton. So after breaking the ball, the content spread around. I as also surprised to see a Hugh piece of cheese [mozzarella or fresh paneer] at the bottom. So I assume it is a re-envisioned version, the tastes are there but may be more bread and focus on presentation.... like onion, cheese, bread and bottom soup, would give a better appeal to the dish. [It tastes great and not a lot of places serve French onion soup so would like to return to see it improved on]
Main Course 5/5
Prawns Curry Roti
The curry was nice and spicy, I kind of feel like the masala mix used is similar to the one famous in Vizak, rich in pepper, cloves etc. The prawns are small and local, the tails were removed.
Drinks 5/5 They have a bar but we did not order.
So I would definately return here especially if I was going with a more elderly crowd or work colleagues [elder than me] for the classic 90's feel of an Indian restaurant.
Kudos to the chef for making the efforts of removing tail, balancing flavor's, making their on take in some classic dishes. Ofcourse, if the Russian salad gets a non veg version [just sliced boiled chicken will do], it would double the odds of...
Read moreI recently had food here and below are my observations.
Good points They have good parking Location is heart of city Food was tasty Ambience was good Instrumental rock music was amazing Clean washrooms Fry Biryani and Lime soda were epic (just wow) Manager was very friendly and professional Crowd here was good Food portion was very good Good place for team dinners( have large tables)
Points to improve After entering inside we came to know its also a BAR It's not a very kids friendly place (though manageable) The service was very slow even though place was not crowded (Order taking time, Service time, fingerbowl time and bill time was around 45 minutes) Menu is a just a little bit on higher side in price ( not much though) The table for two given to us was very small and waiter had to squeeze himself to reach us.
Over all a great place to eat, a must try for once specially for the amazing Biryani (better...
