What happens when passion meets talent, something unique is in the offering for sure. Hyderabad has been so receptive of new cuisines quite new to us. Vasudev Singh , owner of Himalayan cafe brings in such unique nepalese cuisine to the land of biryani with clear homework done and has started small but solid. Have been planning to visit this place and interact with him, finally it happened and I'm so glad we did. He takes immense pride in his journey of making THC a reality and how he keeps it simple but focuses on quality and authenticity. Working in such small place (literally 4-5 pax seater space only), its totally hole in the wall (As they dont even have a board outside) and as you walk you know its that kind of small eatery. Live view of chef and his team making food, is also part of the experience.
We tried the following on Vasudev's reco and man I listened to him
Pork Thupka - clear flavors, perfect balance and a complete one-pot meal by itself for a normal appetite - 5/5
Steamed chicken momos - as authentic as it gets and perfect steam cook on the layer(s) but it lacked the kick that a spice lover expects - 4/5
Chicken Coriander and Chicken Schezwan Momos - both are simply strong flavors and absolutely brilliant. Try 'em period - 5/5
Chicken BBQ Satay - skewered chicken chunks but the BBQ sauce and the sesame seeds was a delicious combination but there indeed was a secret ingredient and owner wouldnt reveal it. Nonetheless the flavors spoke for itself - 5/5
Chicken Bami Goreng (noodles) - I mean we all have had street noodles but this was whole another level. The perfect coat of sauce on every strand of the noodle and flavors all coming together to give a gastronomical synergy was beyond words - 5/5
Star to me would be PORK MOMOS - the steamed beauties has right amount of meat inside with onions and ginger. Finally a dish which can take pride in showing how raw ginger can elevate flavors. Spot on for someone who doesn't often relish good momos - 5/5
Service part in such tiny tiny place would be slow and nothing to justify. Overall if you love momos and interested to try their thupkas and other offerings (Thai and Chinese) , don't you miss this place. To me such places are evidences of passionate people who focus only on serving quality menu at affordable pricing and Vasudev deserves applause and support from our...
Read moreWith dozens of restaurants and eateries coming up in the city, it’s not uncommon to see passionate owners who strive to deliver only the best but to find that perfect team in the kitchen who complements the same proves to be a tedious task to most. Most such businesses either lose in the struggle to find that right match in the kitchen or to the changing market and demands of the people in the city. The Himalayan Cafe however, is one such unique spot which has achieved the right balance thanks to the brilliant leadership from the owner Vasudev Singh and the batallion of chefs supporting in the venture. Hailing from Nepal, the eccentric yet hearty cuisine of the mountains was something that Mr. Vasudev always wanted to bring in to the city of Nizams realizing the dearth of these dishes in the food scene.
Set up on the top floor of Sarkar Kitchen’s building on Botanical Garden road in Kondapur, the place is actually quite difficult to locate because of the absence of any signboards or any markings on the street which is something that the management might want to look into. With just 2 tables and about 4-5 chairs in total, the ambience is also not something that is to look forward to but its the food which makes up for everything. The majority of space is taken up by the kitchen which is in full view to the walk-in diners, giving a unique dining experience to all the five senses.
Best dishes to try out included Pork Steamed Momos, Pork Thukpa, Bami Goreng and...
Read moreWe had been planning to visit this place for quite some time after seeing all the good ratings on Swiggy. Finally we made it, and the first thing to know is that it is a very small outlet with space for hardly 20 people. The ambience is simple, not something that will wow you but also not disappointing. It feels like the kind of place where you focus more on the food than the setup.
The real highlights of our visit were the steamed momos, jhol momos and khowsuey. All three were absolutely delicious and clearly the stars of the menu. The momos were soft and flavorful, and the jhol momos had that extra kick that made us go back for more. The khowsuey was so comforting and well made that it stood out on its own. These are the dishes I would come back here for without a second thought.
On the other hand, we were a bit disappointed with the Mei Goreng noodles and Kung Pao. They did not match the standard set by the momos and khowsuey and left us wishing they were better. Still, the overall experience leaned more on the positive side because the best dishes really delivered.
We ordered five dishes for four people and the bill came to around ₹1600. Considering the portion sizes and the quality of the momos and khowsuey, it felt quite reasonable. Overall, if you are looking for good momos or a hearty bowl of khowsuey, this place is definitely...
