Title: Affordable and Flavorful: Odhen's Hotel, Kannur - Best Time for a Tasty Fish-based Lunch

Review: I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious and budget-friendly fish-based lunch at Odhen's Hotel in Kannur. While the restaurant's ambiance may be average and it tends to get crowded, I discovered that visiting between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM offered the best experience. This review aims to highlight the restaurant's affordable and tasty offerings while providing insights on the optimal time to visit.

Let's start with the food—Odhen's Hotel truly shines when it comes to serving up tasty fish dishes. The menu features a variety of options that are bursting with flavors and showcase the region's culinary heritage. From mouthwatering fish curries to perfectly seasoned fish fry, each dish is prepared with care and offers a delightful blend of spices and fresh ingredients. It's an absolute treat for seafood enthusiasts looking for a satisfying and pocket-friendly meal.

While the restaurant's ambiance may not be exceptional, it's important to note that Odhen's Hotel tends to be quite crowded, especially during peak lunch hours. However, I discovered that visiting between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM provided a more comfortable dining experience. During this time frame, the crowd was relatively manageable, allowing for quicker service and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Despite the average ambiance, the staff members at Odhen's Hotel are attentive and friendly. They strive to ensure a pleasant dining experience for every guest, providing prompt service and addressing any queries or special requests. Their hospitality adds a welcoming touch, creating a positive impression amidst the bustling environment.

As for the best time to visit, arriving between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM allows you to beat the peak lunch rush and secure a table more easily. This window offers a balance between a reasonably calm ambiance and the availability of freshly prepared dishes. You can savor your meal at a leisurely pace without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by the crowds.

In conclusion, Odhen's Hotel in Kannur is a go-to destination for a cheap and tasty fish-based lunch. While the ambiance may be average and the restaurant tends to get crowded, visiting between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM ensures a more comfortable experience. The affordability, flavorful dishes, and friendly staff make it a worthwhile choice for seafood lovers. So, if you're looking for a pocket-friendly and satisfying lunch in Kannur, consider paying a visit to Odhen's Hotel during the recommended hours for an enjoyable...

This restaurant is the Collective Pride of our people in Kannur district. Only Kerala Meals are available here. Meals by themselves are just fine.. nothing to brag about. But the reason why the restaurant is hyped is because of the double fried fish dishes that they serve. They have this special inhouse marination blend with rice flour for the fried items which is extremely delicious & addictive.

By God, having along with the fish items, ordinary rice and curry meal gets elevated into something else entirely. I don't have words to describe. You have to experience to find out. And the best thing is its not that expensive.

My personal favourite dishes to order are as follows

Mussels fry - (Kallumakaya) Prawns fry - (Chemmeen) Squid fry - (Koonthal) King/Seer fish - (Ayakoora) Pomfret - (Aavoli)

There is a slight issue with Mussels fry I have to address... The flavour is too good and overpowering that the other fried dishes we have after having this item will taste bland 😂. So keep in mind to have mussels at the end of the meal after finishing other dishes to enjoy everything fully.

Another thing I have to mention is the ambience. This is not a restaurant where you can peacefully sit and eat while talking. The afternoon rush is next level. There will be people waiting beside your table watching you eat for getting the seats 😂. The same goes for you as well if you visit in peak time. You have to check the tables where the food is almost getting over, and hold your position till they get up.

So the best time to visit to eat little peacefully is 12:30 pm. You'll get seat instantly.

The takeaway service is super fast, they pack and keep everything ready. It's a separate counter...

Odhen's Hotel in Kannur is a must-visit for those craving authentic native food. If you have a hankering for traditional meals and delectable fried seafood, this is the place to go. However, be prepared for a rush as it tends to be quite crowded, and securing a table may require a short wait. During my visit, I patiently waited for approximately 20 minutes, and the experience was well worth it.

One of the highlights of Odhen's Hotel is the prompt delivery of food. The service is efficient, ensuring that you won't have to wait long to savor their scrumptious offerings. The taste of the food is simply amazing, and indulging in a meal here is not only a treat for your taste buds but also a satisfying experience for your mind.

Among the array of delightful dishes, the Kalmukkai fry stood out as the pinnacle of flavor. Its preparation was executed flawlessly, resulting in a dish that was bursting with taste. The prawns fry and kingfish were equally impressive, leaving me thoroughly satisfied with their succulent textures and delightful seasonings. However, I found the squid to be somewhat lacking in flavor, as it failed to capture the desired taste I was expecting.

There might be a wait for a table, the quick food delivery and incredible taste make it a worthwhile experience. Don't miss out on the Kalmukkai fry, prawns fry, and kingfish, as they are sure to impress.

(The real taste of Kerala Sea Food. A must visit place for the foodies in Kannur. Within the ambience of a just normal hotel, excellent taste and service with full value for your money spent. Require improvements in - seating arrangement, lowering the waiting time, vehicle parking facility and cleanliness.) This was my first review. Today, 28-02-2023, my second visit to Odhen's. Poor state of affairs in cleanliness and quality of foods. I would suggest the entrepreneurs to become more vigilant to improve all the quality aspects especially when you rise up in the market. Here, it took a reverse turn. Plantain leaves given were just dipped in water and not at all cleaned. See the dirt on the towel with which I cleaned the leaf. Is it so difficult for them to arrange cleaned leaves for serving the dishes? I have seen people eating directly on the leaf without even cleaning it with a tissue. The staff were in a hurry to serve, without allowing time to clean the leaf properly. (Rush hour issues) Disgusting ! They could have very well arranged wet tissues for cleaning the leaves ourselves. Today, we tried prawns, mussels and Sardines. They all were cooked on a very high flame, maybe to save time. It was all over burnt/scorched and the real tastes of the dishes were absent. After today's visit, I am removing two stars for the poor state of quality and cleanliness.

Pretty much in the city center. The restaurant is meals style served on banana leaves. The rice is the Kerala matta rice. If you can't handle it don't go here. I hate it when people give poor ratings because they aren't used to the rice. This is as authentic as it gets. They had yellow fish curry, sambar, and pacchsdi for the gravy. I opted for the fish curry and pacchadi. Unfortunately my appetite isn't what it used to be so I have to be picky about what I eat. For the side was some beans and a pickle. Then I got a fired fish, fried calamari, and fried muscles for the paid sides. That served hot congee water to drink on the side - which is project for a meal like this. And a kheer to top it all off. I think the kheer was extra as well. This is a no frills no extras no frills eatery. You go in, wash your hands and get seated. Your banana leaf arrives and a few moments later the rice is served along with the sides. A waiter asks you what extra sides you want and they are delivered within minutes to your table. Eat! Ask for seconds or thirds or fourths.....AYCE for the rice and free curries and veggies. Enjoy!
