NAURA BISTRO — Restaurant in Kannur

I was there to taste steak. I never had steak before, so I searched around kannur and found this place.

I ordered peri-peri fries, alfredo pasta, sweet chilli & spicy chicken wings, prime tenderloin and roast chicken meal.

Peri-peri fries were good, i had better from kannur though, had enough quantity.

Alfredo pasta was good again, the wings were okay, i liked the sweet chilli version better. it came with a sauce which worked.

The steak, for a first timer, was good. It itself doesn't have much flavour, was soft, slightly chewy, medium rare and the mushroom sauce served along helped improve things. chilli in vinegar? and mashed potatoes served along with it, the mashed potatoes was good. Now, for people who are used to nadan beef roast, this won't work. you have to experience it though.

Thought all this was not very filling and ordered chicken roast meal. Now this was great, I liked the flavourful rice, the chicken was roasted with pepper and salt and had good flavour for what it is. It also came with a sauce which when mixed along really improved the flavor.

Great place in Kannur for a Western style meal. The ribeye steak is very good, but not great. The cut wasn't perfect which I will put down to the place still learning their craft. They had also pre-sliced the steak into little strips which was strange because cutting through a steak is an integral part of eating it. The tenderloin steak was more average. Many small pieces on the plate instead of one big piece. The roast chicken meal was positively boring, lifeless and largely flavourless. Their lime mint drink is good. I didn't sample any others because they are usually out of most options. The caramel custard and chocolate cake I had for dessert were splendid. They have nailed the ambience of a bistro. It is near perfect. In a place like Kannur you'll be hard pressed to find an alternative for such food so full marks to them for being a trailblazer. But they have quite a long way to go before they can convince people used to such cuisine from other parts of the world that their menu can compete...
