During my recent visit to Kannur, I had the opportunity to dine at Pulari Restaurant, a well-known spot for non-vegetarian delights, especially their iconic breakfast and seafood specialties.
Breakfast Experience 🍽️ One of the standout dishes in their breakfast menu is the Puttu with Mutton Stew. This combination was truly delightful—soft, fluffy Puttu paired with rich, flavorful mutton stew that was perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. It felt absolutely worth the price, offering both taste and value.
Lunch Experience 🍛 While the overall lunch experience was average compared to other similar restaurants in Kannur, what sets Pulari apart is their uncompromised quality in seafood. Their expertise in preparing fresh, well-seasoned seafood dishes makes them a must-visit for seafood lovers.
Here are some of the notable dishes we tried: ✅ Ayala Curry :- A well-balanced, traditional fish curry with an authentic Kerala-style preparation. ✅ Kallummakkaya (Mussels) Fry :- Fresh, crispy, and packed with coastal flavors. ✅ Chemmeen Vattichath (Prawns in a thick, spiced gravy) :– Rich and flavorful, perfect with rice. ✅ Koonthal Malabar Roast (Squid Roast) :– Tender squid cooked in a spicy Malabar-style gravy. ✅ Duck Roast : – Well-cooked, mildly spiced, and enjoyable. ✅ Avoli (Pomfret) Fry ( one of the must try item ) :– Perfectly fried, crispy on the outside while retaining the juicy texture inside.
Missed Out: Chicken Varieties 🍗 We skipped their chicken dishes as per local recommendations, which suggested that their chicken options are not up to the mark compared to their seafood expertise.
Service & Ambience 🌟 One of the highlights of the restaurant was the polite, courteous, and well-mannered staff. Despite the heavy lunch-hour rush, they managed to serve customers efficiently, ensuring a comfortable dining experience. The ambience was pleasant, though it can get quite crowded during peak hours.
Areas for Improvement 🚗🚻 Limited Parking Space – Finding parking near the restaurant can be a challenge. Washroom Maintenance – The hygiene and upkeep of the washroom could be improved for a better dining experience. Overall Verdict (4/5) Pulari Restaurant is a great choice for seafood lovers looking for quality dishes at a reasonable price. Their breakfast, especially Puttu with Mutton Stew, is a must-try. Lunch is good but not extraordinary, except for their seafood options, which truly stand out. With slight improvements in parking and washroom facilities, this place could elevate its dining experience even further.
Would definitely recommend for seafood enthusiasts and those looking for an authentic Kerala-style breakfast...

Must-Try Dishes: Top highlight is definitely their Lagoon Chicken Biriyani – a unique twist with rich flavors, well-cooked rice, and juicy chicken pieces that carry a subtle seafood aroma, living up to the name. Also tried their Kallumakkaya (Mussels) Biriyani – not many places do it well, but here it was packed with flavour and freshness, perfectly balanced spices and generous mussel portions.
Pothichoru is another star – served the traditional way in banana leaf, with authentic seafood fries (like prawns, squid, and sometimes even small fish) and all the essential Kerala-style accompaniments. Truly nostalgic!
Their non-vegetarian side dishes like fish curry, chicken roast, and beef ularthiyathu are all worth mentioning – well spiced, not oily, and go great with meals or parotta.
Cleanliness & Service: Place is well-maintained, and staff are friendly and quick to serve. You can see they care about hygiene and presentation. Food came hot and fresh.
Accessibility & Parking: Location is easy to access, and though parking can be a bit of a juggle during peak time, you’ll mostly find a spot nearby. only street parking available, which will be difficult to get on normal working days.
Value for Money: Portions are good, taste is on point, and pricing is reasonable for the quality and...
Read moreHotel Pulari and Hotel Sunrise run side by side near the Kannur South Bazaar. Pulari is a small restuarant for South Indian veg and non veg meals I will recommend you to go for the.fish meals. Top it up with the Squid masala and the prawn masala, you have a very delighted palate and a super happy tummy! The flavor and masala used for the various dishes stand out distinctly that it leaves you asking for more! Try the Malabar parotta which is as flaky and soft as it can get. They also have the wheat parotta, but we went for the maida one. If you want the best of fish, land early noon or afternoon. You do get chicken dishes thru the day and evening as well, including the grilled variants. The full kari meen/king fish/ayala tava fry garnished liberally with coconut chunks, pepper and green chilly slices is something you should try along with rice, appam, or parotta. Wash it all down if you are there in the afternoon with payasam and I challenge you to not smile or burp after the feast.
Also if you are a. Gang of 10-15 people and need a secluded AC room, pl call the hotel atleast 30 minutes prior to your arrival and they may delight you even more with a lovely private space
Overall one will relish the best of Malabar seafood cuisine and end up with an unabashed finger licking...
