Madras Cafe — Restaurant in Kanpur

The place is one of those poorly planned and reluctantly opened businesses. There was TBC at this place previously. But due to extremely high prices they couldn't attract the customers and had to close. Afterwards, this combination of so claimed punjabi and South indian Fusion came up. More than 50% of the items mentioned in the menu were not present. Price are high for what they are serving. They try to avoid wastage of the chutneys, so put the garlic chutney and coconut chutney on each other. And provide less than 10 spoons of sambhar on your plate so that you can't waste it and keep asking for it again and again, and you end up giving tip seeing his hard work of serving you. I had masala utthapam with vada, the consistency and taste of which i didn't find matching to South indian food. It was definitely not worth 250 bucks. They do serve regular drinking water but woth a warning that its not RO water and drink it on your own responsibility. I hope the food authorities investigate the sample of water from this restaurant. You can say that give them chance to learn and benefit of doubt of being amateur. But who charges like a pro in their learning phase? As i guessed rightly about such other restaurants, i doubt this place...

I recently visited, and my experience was far from satisfactory.

The food quality did not justify the high prices. The flavors were mediocre, and the portion sizes were disappointing. For the price paid, I expected a much better dining experience.

What made the visit even more unpleasant was the water policy. When I asked for regular water, the staff informed me it wasn’t RO-filtered, subtly discouraging its consumption and pushing for the purchase of bottled water. This practice is not only frustrating but also illegal, as establishments in India are required by law to provide safe, regular drinking water to customers free of charge.

The combination of overpriced food and non-compliance with basic customer rights leaves me unable to recommend this restaurant. I hope the management takes corrective measures to improve both their service and adherence to legal...
