Dear All, After 2 months of my posting the last review about Sagar Ratna, Kanpur, I visited there again yesterday evening. I was shocked to see the exponential deterioration in the services and food quality of the restaurant. Even the staff has become ill-mannered and has started misbehaving with the customers. We reached the restaurant at 9:20 P.M. yesterday evening. The staff at the entrance told us to wait as all tables were full and told us that it will take 30 - 40 minutes for our turn to come. He noted our name in the register. Lot of customers kept arriving even after us. We were nine people. He kept us waiting giving a reason that table for nine is not vacant. In fact he was doing a foul pay by accommodating two different family groups of 4 and 5 or vice versa on a table of nine to extract maximum profit out of his business. In fact he was accommodating families who came even after us also leaving us behind. Small children with us were feeling too hungry and were almost half asleep. Our patience broke at 11: 00 P.M. as we were the only family left waiting outside the restaurant. Per force we had to fire the restaurant people for this malpractice being adopted by them and for the way they insulted us. They misbehaved with us and when we reacted to this, they immediately gave us a table to save their face. We ordered non spicy food but the food served was full of spices and chillies to harrase us and the quality of food was horrible. Most of the items were not available and the food served was actually a mix of left overs. The restaurant has lost it's brand image and if this continues it shall be closed soon, the way it happened at their branch at Bhootnath...
Read moreHad a wonderful dining experience at Sagar Ratna! This place never disappoints when it comes to authentic South Indian flavors. The ambiance is simple yet clean and comfortable, perfect for a casual meal with family or friends.
We ordered the Mysore Masala Dosa, Medu Vada, and a South Indian Thali—every dish was fresh, flavorful, and served hot. The dosa was perfectly crisp with just the right amount of spice in the filling. The sambhar and chutneys were incredibly tasty and complemented the dishes well. The filter coffee at the end was the perfect finishing touch—strong, aromatic, and refreshing.
What stood out the most was the quick service and polite staff. Despite being fairly busy during lunch hours, the service was smooth and efficient. It’s also great to see that they maintain high levels of hygiene, both in the dining area and restrooms.
Sagar Ratna is a go-to place for authentic vegetarian South Indian cuisine at reasonable prices. Whether you're a fan of dosas, idlis, or full South Indian meals, this place is definitely worth visiting.
Highly recommended if you're looking for delicious, wholesome Indian food...
