Let me state at the onset, this place has earned a remarkable reputation in the student fraternity of Manipal and they would vouch for its awesomeness. Both online and offline recommendations from patrons compelled me to drive to this place for lunch while I was visiting my Missus who is pursuing her PG at Manipal.
We earmarked the date and invited her college friends for the lunch at this place. I reached few moments earlier so I could take few clicks of the place. The theme of the restaurant is Basil, and a quick glance on the menu makes it abundantly clear that it boasted of several dishes that featured Basil as one its ingredients. They have dishes from Italian, Mexican and Chinese cuisines, and none of these are authentic by any standards. Let me start with the pros, to my liking, place has great natural light pouring in the dining area. The service is not abysmal, just mediocre. The place has more of an aura of a hangout place, where you meet with your friends, have a meandering chat and laugh endlessly without being picky about food.
If food is what you are passionate about and are excited to try out a new place, you would be in for a disappointment. We had a serving of pasta, quesadilla, chicken noodles, chicken chili, nachos salad, and finally to wash down all this biscuit pudding with chocolate ice-cream. Sadly, the best came at last- the biscuit pudding. All other dishes were disappointment. Nachos were disaster, quesadilla just OK, chicken noodles you could safely pass on to other plate without wanting to try and pasta combined with red and Alfredo sauces was a heart break. The saving grace was that bill was not too heavy on pocket, an amount of 980 for 6 diners would not make you feel the pinch. I so wish the place would have been as wonderful as its reputation promised it to be.
Verdict: Go with your friends, have fun, but do not have food at the center of your thoughts. This will save you from some...

The service here is equally impressive. The staff are warm, professional, and attentive, always ready to help with recommendations and ensure that you have everything you need. It’s clear that the team is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience.
The only thing to keep in mind is that the prices are a bit on the higher side. While the quality and ambiance justify the cost to some extent, it may not be the first choice for those on a budget. However, for a treat or a special occasion, Bassil Café offers an experience that’s well worth it.

Read moreI recently visited Basil Cafe with high hopes for a satisfying vegetarian meal. Unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing and left me feeling deeply disheartened.
Upon ordering the paneer quesadilla, I was shocked to discover that the dish contained chicken instead of the promised paneer. This was not just a simple mistake; it was a breach of trust and a clear disregard for my dietary preferences as a vegetarian.
What was even more distressing was the lack of accountability from the staff and management. Despite bringing the issue to the attention of the manager, I was met with indifference and excuses. The manager, who also happened to be the owner, failed to take responsibility for the mistake and instead shifted blame onto the waiter.
As a vegetarian, I value honesty and transparency when it comes to food choices. It's unacceptable for a restaurant to misrepresent its dishes and then refuse to acknowledge its errors. This experience has left me deeply shaken and has shattered my confidence in Basil Cafe's commitment to customer satisfaction.
Overall, my visit to Basil Cafe was a profound disappointment, and I cannot in good conscience recommend it to fellow vegetarians or anyone who values honesty and integrity in their...
