Must try: Rava Masala Dosa and Filter Coffee MTR also known as Mavalli Tiffin Room is one of the best places in and around Udupi to get a dosa. They have a long history of the restaurant which is decorated on their walls. They use authentic ghee in almost all their products which requires oil and provides you with a very small sample of ghee along with your dish so as for you to authenticate the type of ghee they are using to cook their dishes. All of their south indian dishes are mouth watering specially everything with Rava. Their sambar has a unique taste of it's own which you can't forget and their chutney being a very thick paste of coconut and spices. This restaurant is a little pricey as you can tell that their dosa are around 90 rs each and one cup of tea is 30 Rs. But believe me when I say that it's worth every paisa you will be spending over here. They are very uptight about cleanliness and there is a high chance that whenever you visit, you will find one person brooming the floor. Don't get me wrong, this is an amazing quality for a restaurant as it provides you with an insight on their hygienic levels. Toilets in the restaurant is also very clean and hygienic. This restaurant seems to be a part of a Hotel which you can see right behind me, but caters to the tourists more often than just hotel guests.

One of the worst experience i had recently in a Udupi restaurant Note : This review is based only on the items we had ordered... Other items might be good... But m not stepping again to try anything else 1. Veg Cutlet : DONOT TRY THIS... I REPEAT .... DO NOT TRY THIS ... Look at the attached image.... Doesn't even look good.. One of the worst cutlet i have had in my life ... This restaurant should really remove cutlet from its menu.. it's really okay to remove a item from the menu if you can't provide the authentic taste... Cutlets available in Hotel Diana is 1000 times better than this ... My friends told me tat Hotel woodlands serves the best cutlet in town but m yet to try it. 2. Podi Dosa : Again.... Not worth it ... Hotel Swastik Dosa Hut (Behind Woodlands and also in malpe sea walk with a food truck) serves the best podi dosa in town.... Podi dosa in MTR was very very ordinary.... 3. Bisibele baath : Average... Not gonna say this was the worst ... But nothing to praise either.... It was very average when comapred to restaurants branding 4. Coffee and Cold badaam milk : Both were really good.... Really liked the badaam milk I really hope tat only Udupi franchise is below par.... Otherwise MTR wouldn't have been this famous... Definately not visiting again 🙏🏼

Being a Bangalorean, the name MTR has a special place in my heart. When I came across the same name while I was exploring the Udupi region I couldn't help myself to visit this place for lunch on a weekday afternoon. I honestly didn't like how they prioritised the customers during rush hours. While I was waiting for over 15 mins for the table, they assigned a table for a person who came in just 5 mins ago. That's very dissatisfactory. Apart from the above issue, service is quite professional and friendly. Stewards are well trained and they coordinate between one another very well and serve the food quickly. Food was good. I ordered Masal Dosa & Curd Vada. Though there is no wow factor, the quality of food was satisfactory. I also ordered a signature grape juice, which was awesome. The whole floor is air conditioned, wooden chairs & tables give a rustic & authentic look for the restaurant. Loved the hygiene factor in the whole restaurant. They do accept cards & UPI payments. They have dedicated parking for four wheelers but it's tricky to find the same. Two wheelers can easily find the parking on the front road. Overall, you'll get MTR experience with MTR quality food. Highly recommended for travellers. -BeingBakasura

After a hospital visit at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, we decided to have dinner at the MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Rooms) outlet in Udupi, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We tried a variety of dishes, including masala dosa, rava idli, bisibelebath, and their famous filter coffee. The masala dosa was perfectly crispy with a generous and flavorful filling that transported us straight to the heart of traditional South Indian cuisine. The rava idli was soft, light, and paired wonderfully with the accompanying chutneys and sambar. The bisibelebath was rich, hearty, and had the perfect balance of spices, making it a truly comforting dish. To top off our meal, we enjoyed MTR’s signature filter coffee, which was robust, aromatic, and provided the perfect ending to our delightful meal. The quality and authenticity of the food were evident in every bite, living up to MTR’s longstanding reputation. The service was prompt and efficient, with courteous staff who made us feel welcome. The restaurant was clean, and the ambiance was inviting, enhancing our dining experience. Overall, our visit to MTR Udupi was a memorable one, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking genuine South Indian flavors.

My family and I had the pleasure of dining at MTR Restaurant Udipi, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience that perfectly blended tradition and taste. Mini meals were a true masterpiece, offering a tantalizing selection of curries and accompaniments The Special meals took our taste buds on a delightful journey, offering an even more intricate blend of flavors and textures. We savored the perfectly puffed Poori paired with a classic potato masala, and the Masala Dosa was a crispy delight filled with a delectable potato filling that left us craving more. What truly impressed us were the authentic flavors that MTR Restaurant Udipi presented.Adding to the charm of the experience were the banner boards placed in every corner, proudly displaying the restaurant's impressive 99-year history. This touch of history added an extra layer of significance to our meal, making us feel like part of something truly special. The service was impeccable, MTR Restaurant Udipi is an absolute must-visit. With its inviting ambiance, genuine flavors, and a touch of history, it's a place where you can savor the legacy of South Indian cuisine and create memories that will last a lifetime. Highly recommended
