Good for those who have never tasted an authentic GOAN FISH CURRY RICE.
I had a big curiosity to have fish curry rice at this overhyped place with my wife and kid. Waiter was ignorant. Just kept the menu on table. The menu is complicated for the first timers. I asked him to explain the concept. He explained me as if I have some inbuilt information on your complicated menu and v as customer should study it well in advance. No price mentioned on the menu. Next we 3 set on a table. He told me to sit on the smaller table although there were lot of empty tables in the dining room. I was mood of by then and as I has a long travel and we were hungry so I just ordered whatever information I had. Next food is pathetic. Fish had no taste and too oily dipped in masala. Fish curry was sub standard had no tamarind only turmeric and curry fish also no taste. Chicken ghee Roast was charged 300 rs per plate. I don't mind even spending 500 rs but chicken taste was not good. Not like authentic ghee Roast. I had the real ghee roast in authentic Malabar restaurant. If you cannot provide authenticity then why Market. Fish curry rice had rice, fish in curry ( tasteless), valachi bhaj, some very less kismur that's it. Nothing else to eat. Masala bangda seperately one has to order. Can't imagine a fish curry rice without a fried fish. This is very unique case. Lastly during billing I payed by card online and waiter asked me if I want to add tip. Why ask if I like I will tip. So all in all unsatisfactory experience. Any Goan who eats their so called fish curry rice will certainly regret unless management takes this criticism positively and implement. I request the machali management owner to visit some good Goan fish curry rice serving restaurants in Our goa, study their preparations, servings, content and portions, waiter atticates and services, other minute details and see how they can do their best. Rating for food and service given as there is no zero rating...
Read moreThis Konkani owned fish restaurant is simply overly hyped in social media and by giving extra fish or commission to auto drivers as agents mostly .Because they don’t have any competitor in tulunad Karnataka, they developed high attitude because of their monopoly business profit. The have pathetic customer service, don’t take order properly, will not ask again in between if require anything else,if ordered for rice alone will not say there is option of half portion and full portion. After taking order and providing plate and glass, they will tell you to get up and change seats if any customer of their preference comes. If one fish curry is ordered, they will decide to give only half portion rice and will not ask if require more, so that they can use left over curry for the next customer, who knows. If any customer of their choice comes, they want us to eat fast and leave immediately and will not take further order between even though there are plenty of empty chairs tables . This restaurant owners business grew because of the college students from various parts of Karnataka and from various states because of some companies and education institutions in mangalore and Manipal and also because of the travellers who reaches Udupi mangalore. Hence they know that none can do nothing even if they insult customers. Insulting and worst experience. Will not recommend this place to people who travel from namma Bengaluru , Mysore, Andra,Kerala, tamil Nadu, north India.Go for other restaurants if in tulunad.or eat fruits...
Read moreMy Review of Machali Restaurant, Udupi
My visit to Machali was long overdue, and I finally made it! From the moment I walked in, the staff's warm and courteous service stood out. It was just the beginning of their day (around noon), and I happened to be the first customer for lunch.
I ordered Chicken Biryani, Anjal Tawa Fry, Chicken Ghee Roast, Chicken Kabab, and Prawns Ghee Roast. Among these, the ghee roast dishes were phenomenal, and the Anjal Tawa Fry was absolutely mind-blowing – full of flavor and utterly delicious! The red, colorful masala gravy made with Byadagi chilli was outstanding and elevated the dishes to another level.
To complement these, we also tried Neer Dosa and Chicken Curry. After the heavy and spicy meal, the refreshing goli soda was the perfect way to end on a high note. The prices are very reasonable compared to other places, and the restaurant maintains excellent hygiene standards.
Overall, Machali lives up to its reputation, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Udupi. Here’s my rating of the dishes:
CHICKEN & PRAWNS Ghee Roast: Price Rs. 240 Rating 9/10
Anjal Tawa Fry: Price Rs. 270 Rating 10/10
Chicken Biryani: Price Rs. 230 Rating 9/10 (It’s not the usual spicy biryani but milder in flavor, which my wife particularly enjoyed. Perhaps their Prawns Biryani would be even better.)
Neer Dosa: 4 pieces for ₹50 – a generous portion and the perfect pair with Chicken Curry.
A must-visit for flavorful,...
