“Top 40” in India? Not Quite. A Missed Opportunity in Flavor and Experience.
In-short: Sapa Sourdough & Cake Shop in Mysore does not live up to the high expectations set by its ranking among India’s top 40. The food was bland and poorly executed, the ambiance was too cramped, and the service lacked the warmth and personal touch that could have salvaged the experience. At the prices they charge, the experience simply does not deliver. I would not recommend Sapa to anyone seeking a truly elevated, flavorful dining experience. There are far better options in Mysore that offer superior food, better ambiance, and more value for your money.
Recommendation: Skip Sapa if you’re looking for a flavorful, comfortable, and value-driven dining experience.
Ambiance: Sapa in Mysore feels more congested than cozy. The “homely vibe” is sacrificed for a cramped, uncomfortable space. Tables are too close together, and the overall atmosphere lacks the openness or refinement one would expect from a premium restaurant. With better spatial planning, it could certainly elevate the guest experience.
Food: The dishes were consistently disappointing. As a vegetarian, I had high hopes, but nothing stood out and the disappointment at one point was so much that I dint click the picture of all the dishes mentioned. • Rosemary Drink: Overly diluted and lacking flavor depth. • Glazed Cauliflower Sandwich: Bland, under-seasoned cauliflower with dry, uncrispy sourdough. • Pasta Aglio e Olio: Flavorless, overcooked pasta with barely any garlic or spice. • Vegetable Salad: A plain, uninspired bowl of greens with no dressing or balance. • French Fries: Soggy, limp, and unseasoned — an unforgivable miss for such a simple dish. • Chocolate Croissant: Dense, lacking the flakiness and richness that makes croissants a delight.
• Gnocchi in Rose Sauce: The Gnocchi in Rose Sauce was an outright disappointment. The gnocchi themselves were overly dense and chewy, lacking the light, pillowy texture that makes this dish a delight. The rose sauce, which should have been creamy and slightly tangy, was bland and under-seasoned, with no depth of flavor. It felt more like a generic tomato cream sauce, and the richness expected from a rose sauce was entirely absent. The dish lacked balance and was ultimately a bland, stodgy mess. This dish missed the mark on every front, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone seeking a satisfying, flavorful Italian experience.
Service: While polite, the service was impersonal and lacked the warmth expected at a top-tier establishment. Efficiency doesn’t replace hospitality, and here, it felt like a missed opportunity to engage diners more thoughtfully.
Value for Money: The food, given its blandness and lack of finesse, does not justify the high price point. With other places offering better quality, taste, and ambiance at a similar or lower cost, Sapa feels more like a missed opportunity than a...
Read moreWe visited Sapa Bakery in Mysore over two days and were blown away by the entire experience.
The Pulled Pork Ciabatta was easily the star of the show — so good that we ordered it both days. The Hand Made Prawn Ravioli in Lemon Butter came in a close second — generously filled and drenched in a light, flavorful sauce with a lovely pop from the capers. The Rigatoni With Pork Ragout was another standout: tender, light pork with a deeply comforting sauce, perfectly finished with pasta and cheese.
Among the more global dishes, the Mexican Chicken Enchiladas were packed with flavor. The chicken mince was moist, the salad added freshness, and the sour cream dollop elevated the whole dish.
Their Goat Cheese Stuffed Bajji Chilli was a pleasant surprise — crispy yet soft, structurally intact, with a rich stuffing and a perfectly cooked chilli. The sweet chilli sauce on the side made it even better.
While the Hand Cut Fries felt a bit heavy and oily and didn’t stand out for us, the rest of the savoury menu more than made up for it.
For drinks, the Iced Mocha was a good pick, and the Umami Brew Kombucha (Kokum Ginger) was spot on — though the Spicy Pineapple flavor didn’t quite hit the mark. The Ulo Lemon on Top was incredibly refreshing and acted as a perfect palate cleanser. The Iced Raspberry Matcha was enjoyable, though it could’ve used a stronger matcha kick.
From the dessert section, the Vanilla Custard Berliner had a wonderfully fluffy dough, though the custard felt slightly bland. The Cherry Nougatine Tart was a delicious balance of rich chocolate and tart cherry. The Snickers Mousse Cake leaned slightly off-balance in flavor, but was still a decent dessert.
The vibe and service deserve a special mention. Kirthana was lovely and made sure everyone got the seat they wanted, and Rifan, along with a few others, made the experience feel so warm despite the constant crowd. The staff here handle the chaos with genuine grace and hospitality.
The property is stunning — well maintained, with beautiful interiors and consistently clean washrooms (we noticed someone cleaning every 30 minutes!).
Surprisingly, we loved the savoury items more than the desserts — a rarity for us. All in all, Sapa Bakery is a must-visit when you're in Mysore. Go early, and don’t hold back — order as...
Read moreI bought their eggless baguette donut , and let me tell you it tastes below average. It tastes quite literally like the oil they used and sugar. It was soaking in oil, which leaves a lingering bad aftertaste. I have never had such terrible donuts ever. The filling was barely a drop, not even complete, as you can see in the image. So i dont know what it tasted like. The place was crowded like a market !! The cashier is polite only until you make payment. He told me the order would take 10 to 15 mins to be packed and he would tell them to hurry up and see if could be done any earlier - when he saw me think twice about placing the order. And he immediately forgot about it once I paid! In real, he had no such conversation with the staffs packing. Not sure if they are understaffed or just not interested in serving! I waited for a good 20 to 30 minutes, in the crowd, like the rest of the customers, clutching on to the bill and holding it out. The atmosphere was more like a market than like a cafe/bakery. Nothing fine dine about them. The food taste and quality was below average. Health wise , as a conscious person, I would not eat /visit that place ever again. Not sure why the crowd. Mostly people get misled from the IG stories or ads? The staff packing the orders would call out names once or twice and then leave the irder lying around. 2 others waiting alongside in the crowd had their orders mixed up when it was handed over to them. Didn't order drink or anything else coz I knew it would only mean waiting longer and longer. The place barely had any circulating air, forget AC or fan. Those sitting outside had one large fan. Their vegetarian or eggless options are limited. Anyways, I don't think many who visit once are going back there again. Most had a lot of leftovers on their plates. My bad that I checked google reviews of this place only after visiting it. Don't be like me. Be smart and spend your money on healthy, taste and quality food from elsewhere where they serve you with respect. Here you have to leave your dignity and respect aside while you wait for the order being shoved about in crowd of customers and staffs...
