⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5)
We recently went to Shalas, right near Syndicate Circle in Manipal, and honestly, we were pleasantly surprised! It's rare to find a place that’s located so centrally and still manages to feel calm and cozy – but Shalas nailed it.
The ambience was absolutely beautiful – warm lighting, spacious seating, clean interiors, and a vibe that makes you want to just sit back and relax. It didn’t feel rushed or noisy, which we really appreciated. Even the parking space was a big bonus – not something you find easily in the heart of the city.
We were a group of four and ordered:
1 Half Chicken Tandoori
2 Full Chicken Biryani
1 Full Veg Fried Rice
5 Cokes
Let’s talk about the food. The Chicken Tandoori stole the show. Genuinely one of the best we’ve had in Manipal – perfectly grilled, super juicy, and bursting with flavor. You could tell it was freshly made and done right. If you're a tandoori fan, this is a must-try!
The Chicken Biryani was... okay. Not bad, Compared to other biryanis we’ve had in town, this one was a bit mild and didn’t have that wow factor. Still edible, but not what we’d come back for.
The Veg Fried Rice was actually pretty good – simple, flavorful, and a safe choice for vegetarians.
Service was smooth and the food came quickly. The staff were polite and gave us our space, which we liked and they even service us well, and served us food.
And the best part? The entire bill came to ₹1113 for all of that – which is super reasonable, especially for 4 people dining out in a good setting.
Overall:
Shalas is one of those places you’ll want to go to when you just want a calm meal with friends in a nice setting, without spending too much. The tandoori is definitely the star of the show, and while the biryani didn’t impress us much, the ambience more than made up for it.
Would I go again? Definitely. Maybe try some of their other dishes...
Read moreWe visited this place just to try out the restaurant, and the experience was quite pleasant. The interiors of the place are really good, with relaxed lighting ; comfortable and spaced out seating and a homely theme. The place also has an aqua that shows the catch of the day and the available seafood. Really lovely….
The place is known for the seafood, and the dishes we ordered were well prepared and fresh! Anjal tawa fry was amazing, and so was the prawns tandoori (waiters recommendation). We also enjoyed the squid masala and if you are here, don’t forget to order the fish ghee roast! It’s truly amazing… The masala’s weren’t as strong as the ones in places like machli or thimappas but were quite flavorful and went really well with the fish. Being from here, I did feel the place to be a bit pricey, esp when compared to the quantity of servings, but overall there are no regrets.
The staff is extremely polite and helpful and ensures that you are spoilt! The service too is reasonably quick and the food is freshly prepared and served which makes a big difference to its quality!! Loved it!!!
The place also has a host of other dishes in the menu, ranging from fish curry rice to biryanis to tandoori to even continental and Chinese so there’s really no issue with variety or not finding something you like. That said, the place is known for the seafood, and they do a really good job with this!!
There’s ample...
