Telugu Mess – A Hidden Gem for Mutton Lovers
If you’re someone who enjoys hearty, flavorful meals with a rich, authentic taste, Telugu Mess is a spot you definitely want to try. Personally, it’s become my regular weekend stop, as it satisfies my cravings for good mutton dishes every time. The restaurant consistently delivers quality food, and it’s become one of my favorite places in town.
One of the standout dishes at Telugu Mess is definitely their mutton kaal soup. This dish has a perfect balance of spices and flavors, with the mutton being cooked to perfection. The meat is tender and juicy, and the soup itself is rich and savory, with just the right amount of depth. Every time I visit, I make it a point to order this, and it never disappoints. Along with the mutton, they serve other dishes that also reflect the same level of care in preparation.
Another reason I love coming here is the pricing. For the portion sizes and quality of the food, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a place with such reasonable rates. It's the kind of place where you can have a satisfying, fulfilling meal without having to worry about overspending. Whether you're just grabbing a quick meal or having a leisurely weekend lunch, you get great value for the price you pay.
The staff at Telugu Mess deserve a mention as well. Over the course of my visits, I've noticed that they are friendly, prompt, and helpful. The service is typically fast, and they are always ready to recommend dishes or assist with any special requests. It’s clear that the management places emphasis on maintaining a customer-friendly atmosphere.
In terms of location, Telugu Mess is quite accessible. It’s in a place that is easy to find, making it convenient for anyone to drop by. The area is well-connected, and finding parking isn’t usually a hassle, which makes it all the more convenient if you want to pop in for a meal during the weekend.
However, if there’s one area I feel they could improve on, it’s the spiciness of their dishes. While I appreciate the bold flavors and the way they’ve managed to keep the taste vibrant, everything I’ve tried here tends to be on the spicy side. For someone who doesn’t tolerate too much heat, it can be a bit overwhelming at times. I’m not sure if the spice level is standard for every dish, but I do think it would be a great idea if they offered some items with a more balanced spice level or allowed customers to choose their preferred spice intensity. That said, the taste more than makes up for the spice, and I’m sure others who love their food with a kick will appreciate it.
Beyond the spice, the overall experience at Telugu Mess has been quite satisfying. The flavor profile of the food is consistently good, the service is reliable, and the ambience is straightforward and no-nonsense, which complements the nature of the restaurant. It’s not a fancy place, but the food speaks for itself, and that’s what matters most. For those who are looking for a simple yet tasty and filling meal, Telugu Mess ticks all the right boxes.
Overall, I can confidently say that Telugu Mess is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys Indian-style mutton dishes. The restaurant delivers on all fronts—great food, reasonable pricing, good service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s worth checking out. I just hope they’ll consider adjusting the spice levels slightly in the future to make it accessible to a wider range of taste preferences. Regardless, I will definitely keep coming back for those flavorful...
Read moreWe went there on a Sunday for lunch at noon. The place is located on a first floor. The ambience is very unassuming and homely. There are long tables with chairs. Pictures of gods, celebrities on the walls. The kitchen is visible and kept clean. The lunch menu was just about ready and we could get all the delicious smells to work up our appetite.
The owner himself was sitting and having lunch when we arrived. He understood that we weren’t regular customers and was extremely helpful in getting us seated, explaining the menu, interpreting our requests to staff and overall making us feel comfortable.
It is a non veg special mess and vegetarian’s won’t find much (in fact anything) to eat here. The food started rolling out. We started with pepper chicken and idly, then beer dosa, mutton chops, chilli chicken. Finally ending with ghee rice, rassam and curd. They also served extra gravy of chicken and mutton in bowls. Everything was delicious and had unique flavours. The curries were light and flavourful. Pepper chicken had a nice mild heat from the black pepper that warms the throat. The chilli chicken is Maratha style and is nicely spicy. Mutton chops were tender. The rassam and curd helped washing everything down. The owner made sure that we were taken care of, he kept the curry pots on our table for us help ourselves as much as we want.
Slowly the place started getting filled with local and regular people. There were a few people who got tiffins and containers with them to take parcel home. They also had mutton meatballs on the menu but they weren’t ready by the time we were done, May be next time. They have specials frequently and use a variety of cuts.
The bill was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food we had. The owner was very polite and kind. He didn’t even charge for curd, rassam etc. We have our compliments to him and the kitchen staff and left planning our next visit when we will be...
Read moreOur visit to Tegu Mess for Sunday lunch was a delightful culinary experience that left us more than satisfied. We tried both the mutton meals, priced at ₹340, and the pepper chicken meals, priced at ₹300. The meals were hearty and packed with flavour, offering excellent value for money.
Each meal started with a fresh salad comprising cucumber, lemon, and onion, which provided a refreshing crunch to complement the rich flavours of the main dishes. The ragi ball, a traditional and wholesome addition, was perfect for pairing with the curries.
The star of the meal was the unlimited white rice and ghee rice, which were served generously. The rice was cooked to perfection, providing a great base for the accompanying dishes. The mutton chops in the mutton meals included three pieces with bones, while the pepper chicken meals featured six pieces of tender chicken. Both options were limited in quantity, but they were more than sufficient given the overall spread. The mutton was well-cooked, tender, and infused with rich spices, while the pepper chicken stood out with its bold, spicy kick that was incredibly satisfying.
The chicken salna added a nice, thick gravy to the meal, enhancing the flavours of the rice and ragi ball. The rasam, with its tangy and spicy notes, was the perfect palate cleanser, and the curd provided a soothing finish to the meal.
Overall, Tegu Mess offers a true taste of local cuisine, with meals that are both filling and full of flavour. The balance between quantity and quality is impressive, and we found the portions to be more than adequate for our hunger. If you're looking for an authentic and satisfying meal in Mysuru, Tegu Mess is definitely...
