I recently visited Burj Al Mandhi Restaurant in Attakulangara and had the pleasure of trying their chicken and beef shawarma, both served with rumali. Here's my take on the experience:
Ambiance: The restaurant has a simple, no-frills setup, which is typical for a casual dining spot. It’s clean and well-maintained, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a quick meal. The focus here is clearly on the food rather than the decor, which works perfectly for a shawarma joint.
Food: The star of the show was undoubtedly the shawarma. Both the chicken and beef shawarma were flavorful and well-prepared. The meat was tender, juicy, and perfectly spiced, with a nice balance of smokiness and seasoning. The rumali bread was soft and thin, wrapping the fillings beautifully without overpowering the taste of the meat. The addition of garlic sauce and pickles added a tangy kick that complemented the richness of the meat.
Chicken Shawarma: The chicken was succulent and well-marinated, with a hint of smokiness from the grill. It wasn’t dry at all, which is often a concern with chicken shawarma. Beef Shawarma: The beef was equally impressive, with a robust flavor and a slightly charred exterior that added depth to each bite. It was tender and not overly greasy.
Both shawarmas were generously filled, making them great value for money. The portion size was satisfying, and the flavors were authentic, reminiscent of the shawarmas you’d find in the Middle East.
Service: The staff were friendly and efficient. Our order was prepared quickly, and the service was hassle-free. They were also happy to accommodate requests for extra sauce or adjustments to the spice level.
Value for Money: Given the quality and quantity of the food, the prices are very reasonable. It’s a great spot for a quick, filling meal without breaking the bank.
Overall Impression: Burj Al Mandhi Restaurant is a must-visit for shawarma lovers in Attakulangara. The chicken and beef shawarma with rumali are standout dishes that deliver on both taste and quality. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or craving some authentic shawarma, this place won’t disappoint. I’ll definitely be returning to try more from their menu!

Read moreMany(including my friends) said they have the best Mandi in Trivandrum. So bought a Mandi(takeaway) couple of days after their inauguration. But unfortunately, it didn't felt that good. I mean not even an average one. Chicken was hard. I haven't been to Middle East, so am not sure how an authentic Mandi's chicken would taste. But as I had Mandi before from many other restaurants(in Kerala), I believe the chicken should be cooked so well so that the flesh should fall the from the bones. Here I didn't felt that. It was hard chicken. The Mandi rice was okay though. Again, not the best. And there were three types of dips. None of them felt good. I mean mayo was watery and didn't had any special feel when consumed. Normally, I love date pickles that some Muslim families serve on special occasions. And here they have dates pickle or something like that. But smelled like antibiotics.
I didn't gave a review that time thinking it could be because of a bad day of their Chef. After a long time, today I bought the same Mandi (half portion). Again same thing is happening. Today the chicken was hard as well as smelled a bit bad. I don't know whether it's a bad chicken or the smell is because of some other ingredients they added. Anyway didn't tasted well either. So after consuming a very small portion of the chicken, I throwed it to the waste bin. Since the rice was okay, but the dips were not very good, I ate some rice with Kissan Tomato Ketchup(a bottle that I bought from super market couple of days ago) and it felt good to eat (just the rice).
If you ask me about the packing, they packed the rice with chicken in an aluminum foil and it was good packing. Even after driving home(8 kms ~= 30mins), the dish was hot. But for the dips, it was like they packed it in very small containers. They could have increased the size of the containers for these dips. Because quantity wise, these dips won't be sufficient for a person.
So overall, their Mandi wasn't the best. For me, it felt below average. But it might be different for you. I mean my tastebuds are different that yours. Maybe after a couple of months, I would again try their Mandi and see if they have...

I recently had the opportunity to revisit and dine at Burj Al Mandhi and indulging in their beef mandhi and mutton soup. Let me just say, the food was not only good but also incredibly flavorful!
First, let's talk about the beef mandhi. The tender pieces of beef were perfectly cooked and seasoned with a blend of aromatic spices that truly enhanced its taste. The meat practically melted in my mouth, delivering a burst of deliciousness with each bite. Accompanied by fragrant rice, this dish was an absolute delight to savor.
Now, onto the mutton soup. Wow, just wow! This soup was a game-changer. The broth was rich and savory, infused with the robust flavors of tender mutton. Every spoonful was a burst of warmth and comfort. The mutton was so tender that it practically fell apart, adding an extra level of satisfaction to each sip. It was truly an amazing bowl of soup that left me craving more.
I would highly recommend both dishes to anyone seeking a truly delightful and satisfying dining...
