Not worth for the money Dindigul Thalappakatti Restaurant is a popular dining destination known for its authentic South Indian cuisine. Located in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, this restaurant has gained a reputation for its delectable biryanis and mouthwatering meat preparations. As you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance. The rustic decor, adorned with traditional artwork, creates a charming atmosphere that instantly transports you to the heart of Tamil Nadu. The seating arrangement is comfortable, and the staff members are courteous and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Now let's talk about the food. Dindigul Thalappakatti is renowned for its biryanis, and rightfully so. The fragrant aroma of spices fills the air as the biryanis are brought to your table. Each grain of rice is perfectly cooked and infused with the flavors of aromatic spices. The meat, whether it's tender chicken or succulent mutton, is cooked to perfection, resulting in a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The biryanis are accompanied by raita and salna, enhancing the overall taste. Apart from biryanis, the menu offers a wide range of other dishes as well. The Chettinad-style preparations, such as the Chicken Chettinad and the Fish Curry, are bursting with flavors. The fiery spices are well balanced, leaving a lingering taste that will delight your taste buds. Vegetarians also have ample options, including the flavorful Paneer Butter Masala and the creamy Dal Makhani. The portion sizes are generous, ensuring that you leave the restaurant fully satisfied. The prices are reasonable considering the quality and quantity of the food. The restaurant is popular among locals and tourists alike, so it can get crowded during peak hours. It is advisable to make a reservation to avoid any inconvenience. In conclusion, Dindigul Thalappakatti Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine. With its inviting ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food, it offers an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a biryani lover or someone looking to explore the flavors of Tamil Nadu, this restaurant will leave you craving for more.

Part of the famous franchise that has been serving tasty food for decades now. This branch has ample parking of its own, not including the very spacious Decathlon situated bang opposite the restaurant :) The restaurant is on the first floor and can has a pleasant decor and knowledgeable staff. Service is very quick too, which is a bonus. Coming to the dishes, we tried - Chicken mulagu soup. Pepper forward, this is lovely to have hot and will clear any blocked sinuses! For starters, we ordered - theepori chicken lollipops (don't be afraid, it's spicy but not a deal breaker), - the famed black pepper chicken (my favourite - crispy flavourful exterior and tender meat), -chicken 65 (well marinated). We also ordered two egg dishes - I think it was podimas (a version of scrambled eggs) and a soft scrambled kalakki egg (images added with this review). For main course, we had the famed Thalappakatti mutton biryani. The rice is flavourful and the mutton tender but yes, I would have liked more than just 2 medium pieces in the dish. We also had a veech parotta (egg within) and a chicken kuthu parotta which were again good and complimented the dishes well. All of this, along with probably 4 drinks came up to around 2300 for 5 people which is a decent rate for such good food. I can't fault the price since I knew it would be above the normal range going in. The dishes are great, the service excellent and the ambience is nice. Would I visit again? Most definitely. Because while I did try most of their signature dishes, they also do have some barbecues and alfahms that I'd like to have a go at.

Food : the food quality is very good and tasty. The quantity was also nice for the rice part but chicken is less. We tried normal chicken biryani and chicken 65 biriyani. Basically the rice part is the same for both. And based on our choice the chicken is added like a topping. I felt good authentic taste of dindigul biriyani. Ambience : The lightings are good but the spacing between tables is too bad. I felt huge congestion in btw tables. They have simply added some tables in between. I didnt have a privacy to enjoy the food and eat. Staff : I felt there is ample no of staff but the staff management is too bad. I visited the place with lot of excitement and an empty tummy. I had to wait around 10 mins for the person to come and take my order, i ordered chicekn and mutton biriyani first, after 5 mins the guy came and told mutton is finished. So i opted for both chicken. It took another 10 15 mins to get the biryani on my table. I had the food, enjoyed it washed my hands and waited for another 10 mins to get my bill. Usually at any hotel even if the food is late we get the bill on time but here that was also delayed. I would like to recommend this hotel to people for food but go there only if you have patience.

First of all, let's get this right: the food tasted alright. My issue was with the service itself which I believe is quite important in the service industry.

I was a regular customer at the dindigul thalapakati outlet at basnath nagar when I used to stay at Chennai. Expecting the same great service, I went here with my family promising them a treat. Oh boy, was I disappointed. Very, very disappointed to the point that I felt that this outlet was a disgrace to the legacy of this chain. It all started with us sitting in our chairs and being presented with a digital menu that didn't have all the items.

Strike 1: a place that's famous for their dum biriyani ran out of a batch of their biriyani. We were informed that it would take nearly 20 minutes for the next batch to be ready which was really strange because I've never faced this situation before. The thalapakti that I know has never put me in this spot as the biriyani jad kept flowing out of their kitchen. Assuming that it's some small coordination mistake and forgetting about it we ordered the rest of the food. Spoiler alert: Coordination error seemed to be the running theme for the dinner. We ordered some chicken 65 biriyani, fried rice, paneer, a chapati (which was given because the wait staff didn't know if the porotta was available). After this, we placed an order of a number of juices to another wait staff who took the order.

Strike 2: once all the biriyani came, the server asked if that was all and I ended up telling him that there was a fried rice left. This took even more time and I had to stare at my family while they ate. We ordered an additional chapati and a bottle of water at the same time. It took some time for the chappati to come and the thirsty kids had to wait for longer to get a bottle of water which literally was on the other empty table. We ended up going there and taking a bottle ourselves because the waitstaff had to go back to the kitchen and spend more time to do this.

Strike 3: by the time we finsihed eating, we enquired about our juices that never arrived. The waiter was surprised that we had ordered juices in the first place. What transpired was that there was a clear miscommunication between the wait staff and servers and even AMONG the wait staff as no one knew who took our order nor when it was taken, eventhough they used a centralised ordering system using their phones. The excuse was that the "net was down" which seems to be the textbook excuse to everything since covid sprung up. To make things worse, they even messed up the bill which only had one chapati listed when we actually ordered two. How does a business botch up the very essence of a business: collecting cash???

I get that a mistake can happen, but when you experience a series of mistakes of the same kind that botches up your whole dinner experience, there is seriously some underlying issue that needs to be...
