First of all, let's get this right: the food tasted alright. My issue was with the service itself which I believe is quite important in the service industry.
I was a regular customer at the dindigul thalapakati outlet at basnath nagar when I used to stay at Chennai. Expecting the same great service, I went here with my family promising them a treat. Oh boy, was I disappointed. Very, very disappointed to the point that I felt that this outlet was a disgrace to the legacy of this chain. It all started with us sitting in our chairs and being presented with a digital menu that didn't have all the items.
Strike 1: a place that's famous for their dum biriyani ran out of a batch of their biriyani. We were informed that it would take nearly 20 minutes for the next batch to be ready which was really strange because I've never faced this situation before. The thalapakti that I know has never put me in this spot as the biriyani jad kept flowing out of their kitchen. Assuming that it's some small coordination mistake and forgetting about it we ordered the rest of the food. Spoiler alert: Coordination error seemed to be the running theme for the dinner. We ordered some chicken 65 biriyani, fried rice, paneer, a chapati (which was given because the wait staff didn't know if the porotta was available). After this, we placed an order of a number of juices to another wait staff who took the order.
Strike 2: once all the biriyani came, the server asked if that was all and I ended up telling him that there was a fried rice left. This took even more time and I had to stare at my family while they ate. We ordered an additional chapati and a bottle of water at the same time. It took some time for the chappati to come and the thirsty kids had to wait for longer to get a bottle of water which literally was on the other empty table. We ended up going there and taking a bottle ourselves because the waitstaff had to go back to the kitchen and spend more time to do this.
Strike 3: by the time we finsihed eating, we enquired about our juices that never arrived. The waiter was surprised that we had ordered juices in the first place. What transpired was that there was a clear miscommunication between the wait staff and servers and even AMONG the wait staff as no one knew who took our order nor when it was taken, eventhough they used a centralised ordering system using their phones. The excuse was that the "net was down" which seems to be the textbook excuse to everything since covid sprung up. To make things worse, they even messed up the bill which only had one chapati listed when we actually ordered two. How does a business botch up the very essence of a business: collecting cash???
I get that a mistake can happen, but when you experience a series of mistakes of the same kind that botches up your whole dinner experience, there is seriously some underlying issue that needs to be...
