A Total Disappointment Despite the Hype
Our recent visit to this highly-hyped restaurant turned out to be a complete letdown, both in terms of food quality and service. Having seen countless food vloggers and influencers rave about this place, our expectations were understandably high — but reality hit hard and left us extremely disappointed.
To begin with, the service was shockingly unprofessional. The waitstaff had absolutely no knowledge about the dishes. Basic questions regarding ingredients or spice levels were met with blank stares and confusion. It was evident they were either poorly trained or completely disinterested in offering any real service.
The chaos didn’t end there — our orders were not even placed correctly. Despite clearly mentioning our preferences, there were mix-ups and delays, which only added to the frustration during what was meant to be a relaxed family dinner. Also inspite asking for tissue, the same arrived at our table after reminding them twice, the cutlery were missing at two of our seats, and was provided only upon request, which shouldnt be the case in a premium dine spot
Now let’s talk about the food. Out of the 11 items we ordered (as seen in the attached bill), only a handful stood out: • Rarha Murgh (Item 5) • Chicken Tikka A-la-hoy Punjab (Item 3) • Pista Gulab Jamun (Item 10) • Laccha Parantha (Item 8)
These dishes were flavorful and met the expectations set by the restaurant’s reputation. However, the rest were a complete flop. • The Paya Shorba (Item 1) and Chicken Shorba (Item 2) lacked depth and tasted like watered-down versions of what they should have been. • The Dal Makhni (Item 4) was overly tasting cummins and bland. • The Amritsari Kulcha (Item 6) was sort of okay • Even something as simple as Butter Naan (Item 7) fell flat — dry and chewy with no butter in fact priced at 89 Rs • The Chicken Dum Biryani (Item 9) was forgettable at best. • The Rasmalai (Item 11), which we hoped would end the meal on a sweet note, was just average and didn’t justify the price.
For a premium dining, we expected far better in terms of both taste and hospitality. Unfortunately, this was not the memorable family outing we had hoped for. With so many other deserving establishments around, this place simply doesn’t live up to the hype. A classic case of style over...
Read moreIt's a wonderful restaurant offering authentic Punjabi delicacies. The food is not too spicy, absolutely fresh and finger licking delicious. We had Mutton Dum biryani, paneer tikka masala, Nan, Dahi kebab, Pani Puri and chiken tikka. Dahi kebab was absolutely amazing and it almost melted in the mouth. This is a 'must try dish' even for non-vegetarians , especially if one has not travelled much in Northern India . Nan was soft and all other dishes were yummy. The only problem was in paneer tikka masala as it was a bit sour than normal. We had phirni and rasmalai which were fabulous..
Though the restaurant is not too big in size the decor gives it a feel of space . The staff treats everyone politely . All of them had a smile when we reached there but later as the place became full (being weekend ) there was a bit of chaos created by staff who were walking briskly probably to cater to the customer demands well in time. Some of the staff were not even giving way to the customers as is the normal practice. And the floor was dirty with some foot marks in the main aisle. The restaurant manager should pay attention to such things in the future lest it may affect the restaurant's image in the long run.
The washrooms are clean however lots of tissues were lying on the floor...which apparently was done by customers but the restaurant needs to pay more attention to such situations and probably clean it again .
With all the above observations also the place is amazing and worth a visit if u love Punjabi food. The prices are not inexpensive but it's worth every penny as the quantity as well as quality is really good.
The restaurant has free parking right in front (which is limited) and another exclusive parking space just adjacent to it , which is sufficient to cater to all the customers. One could reserve the table through Zomato and Zomato Pro offers 10% discount if u use the Zomato app...
Read moreFor all those contemplating to visit this place :- "A hyped up mediocre of a north indian dining restaurant"
Where do I even begin. When food should be the focus at any establishment worth its salt, this places fails bad and takes a severe hit, mainly because of diverting the focus from food and towards embellishments of ambience. We ordered main course skipping starters for lunch comprising of Butter Chicken, Malai Kofta, Laccha parathas & butter rotis (copy of bill attached). Fortunately we didn't go for the appetizers since it was a late lunch so went for main course, and also this being our first time visiting Hoy Punjab, after all the social media reels and influencer promotions.
Firstly the butter chicken, it was a purely a tomato puree gravy with not even a slightest hint of butter added, one needs to try what real Chicken Makhani tastes like in Delhi, Mumbai or anywhere in the North for that matter to know the difference. It was bland, sweet and tomato puree only gravy. I can make a better decent butter chicken than this. Now coming to Malai Kofta, the chef must have seen a picture of how kofta looks and proceeds to makes dumpling balls made out of maida and tossed it in cashew gravy. No hint of paneer, saffron or anything that could redeem it. The only saving grace were the assortment of Rotis which was decent.
Final verdict - If anyone's looking for good authentic hearty north indian food, stay away from this place. This is a testament to never believe everything that u see on social media. And the price - Absurd!! 600 rupees for substandard butter chicken. Really? Giving out fancy menu cards illustrating the history of North West Frontier province cuisine of India are all just an eye wash. Would never try this...
