Absolutely lovely experience, from when we walked in and were shown our seats to the payment of the bill and leaving. Nothing short of perfection - the ambiance, service and quality of food were all top notch. The first thing we noticed was the Cutlery, which was a pleasant surprise as it was aptly placed and very visually appealing. Even the glasses and plates fit the theme and the chopsticks had the name of the restaurant embellished on it - showing a level of dedication and attention to detail not often found in this day and age. The staff was extremely courteous and very professional and helped us out with their menu. We got the Gomae salad, Pork Okonomiyaki, Chicken Karaage, Beef Tataki, Tuna Crudo, Katsudon, Kinokodon, Spicy Miso ramen (pork), Tiramisu and a Yuzu Tart. The Gomae salad was excellent and brought out the flavor of the peanuts and the sauce had plenty of umami. The Okonomiyaki was a burst of flavor with the fish flakes adding a lot of umami and the texture was a crisp exterior with a chewy pork and cabbage interior. The Karaage was one of the best I have ever had - comparable to the likes of Naru in Bangalore and Ramen Nagi in New York. The Beef Tataki was the best quality beef I've ever had and was paired beautifully with its dressing. The Tuna Crudo was excellently cut and was clearly of very high quality. The Katsudon was my personal favorite - with the most flavorful Japanese rice I've ever had and perfect egg and chicken Katsu to boot - the texture of which I can still envision in my mouth. We enjoyed it so much, that we got a Kinokodon parceled for later. The Spicy Pork Miso Ramen was so flavorful and the noodles themselves were unique and very high quality - it tasted so good that I slurped down the broth to the last drop. The desserts were also great and the tiramisu had a lovely yet not too overwhelming taste of coffee liquor, while I did feel that the yuzu Tart was too sweet for my personal liking - it was well prepared nonetheless. We also had orange mint and passionfruit drinks which were excellent and the passion fruit especially stood out and paired so well with the entire spread. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I would even go so far as to say that for Ramen and Japanese cuisine enthusiasts - this may very well be among the nation's best...
Read moreThe food at Tony’s Kitchen is amazing, but I think they really need to up their game when it comes to service. We reached around 1:30 and requested for a table for two. There were no two-seating tables available, and only two four-seating tables.
The lady (with big thick framed glasses), assuming she’s the head of staff, told us that unfortunately there are no tables available. I was a bit surprised because I can see two tables (image attached for reference) that didn’t have the reservation topper on it. When I asked her about these tables, she said “INCASE” a larger group comes in we would like to accommodate them. I double checked with her if there has been a reservation, and she said no and she hurriedly went away saying she’ll be back in a minute.
15 minutes we watched her walking about the restaurant, ignoring us. Only to come to us after the 15 mins to seat us in the 4-seater table. Like ???? What did you make us wait 16 mins for? Why even tell us in the first place and leave a bad taste if you’re going to offer us the same table you weren’t open to offering?
I have been in kochi all my life and I have never had an experience where customers are left waiting because smaller tables aren’t available (especially when the bigger tables aren’t reserved). As French Toast & Tony’s Kitchen share the same parking, the parking was packed that Saturday afternoon, it was past 1:45 by now and the restaurant closes at 3, so logically, the chances of customers coming in are slimmer.
A bit ridiculous when you have premium pricing and quality of food but service was just plain pathetic. I really like the food, but just wouldn’t go there or recommend the place due to this. The other waiters and staff are so pleasant. It’s a shame how one person can ruin the entire service experience at...
Read moreVloggers & Insta reels were hyping up this place to such an extent that.. finally we thought we would give this place a much awaited chance. Expectations were nominal due to a couple of 'not so good' prior experiences from similar themed restaurants. The interiors didn't feel very much japanese kinda but more of a casual asian at max. In spite of not being a big fan..I was in the mood to try a few sushi/maki to reverse my opinion once & for all..but that was never to happen as they didn't have any on the menu and there came the first disappointment.
So we started off the proceedings with Beef Tataki & a plate of chicken gyoza..though sceptical at first..the thinly sliced beef & condiments with its subtle flavour & rare medium texture hit the right notes and was a clear winner. The gyoza was not that impressive and felt average. Then came the highly anticipated Ramen for which the place was making the rounds, however was not quite up there for me as I felt some ingredient/flavour overpowering which really didn't work for me. We finished it off with Japanese cheesecake which surprisingly was yummy!
All in all I felt this place has its base covered but still a lot of areas to improve. I don't think I'll give a second chance unless there are significant additions to the menu. With moderate expectations & Japanese authenticity kept aside..I would suggest a one time experiment to my...
