Meat Barrel — Restaurant in Kerala

Travelled all the way to just have a bland shawarma with more fries than meat inside it. The moment we arrived the whole shawarma place looked shabbily organised, when we approached the shop we were directed to a general corner counter, we ordered a Meat Barrel Special and was assigned a peculiar table despite having the entirety of the dining area empty which felt weird. Arriving at the place I was really sleepy and had a really good long nap before the shawarma came to us, and yet we were the only people there and it wasn’t even rush hour. The meat inside the shawarma, I mean whatever small amount of meat that was in there felt soft and undercooked and lacked any flavour. It’s a shame that the chilly sauce they gave along with the shawarma was the most flavourful part of the meal. The whole meal tasted bland with even the salted veggies being bland, did they really run out of salt when we reached because even the fries were bland. We cursed our choices and finished the meal to find ourselves with stomach aches in the morning. As I now sit on the toilet after vomiting my intestines out, I really hope anyone seeing this review reconsiders their decision to go there. Trust me, your stomach will thank you. Although the wide variety of shawarmas was tempting, the two of us decided to share an iftar kit for rs.220 to fulfil our eve snack craving. Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised with the flavour, portion and variety we got at such a deal! A finger licking yum shawarma (the meat to sauce ratio, the zing from the spice and the addition of french fries was just purrrrrfect), fresh fruits & dates, lush hummus with shreds of chicken, a kubus, a light salad with the perfect crunch of corn, capsicum (the creamy base sauce took us back to our childhood days in Dubai) and lime juice. It was also noteworthy to taste the delish subtle sauce that accentuated the meat flavour in place of the typical overdose of mayo used in most shawarmas. All in all this meal ticked all our boxes! Authentic shawarmas and accompaniments! I recently visited Meat Barrel with high expectations, especially for their shawarma, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The shawarma was not as impressive as I hoped it would be. The flavors were rather average, and the meat lacked the juicy, tender quality that makes a great shawarma stand out. It felt a bit underwhelming considering the reputation the place seems to have.

However, aside from that, everything else was quite satisfactory. The service was prompt and courteous, and the staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. The ambiance was pleasant, making it a decent spot for a casual hangout. The rest of the menu seemed promising, and I might give other dishes a try in the future.

Overall, Meat Barrel offers a decent dining experience, but if you're specifically going for the shawarma, you might not find it as exceptional as you'd expect. I would still recommend it for the good service and...
