I feel so lucky to have dined at Rice Boat @ Taj Malabar. I almost missed dining here as reservations were all sold out but I was in luck to get a table in the last minute.

Right from the beginning, Mr. Ahilan took great care of us, from assigning our desired tables to explaining the menu, to recommending the best dishes possible! His care, attention to detail and honest attempt at delivering a great hospitality experience definitely was the highlight of our visit.

The restaurant is set right inside the backwaters; it’s built like a traditional Kerala boat, and the backwaters passing by at great speeds, with majestic ships from the Kochi Port and Indian Navy passing right by you, you’ll be easily amused and entertained, feeling like you’re riding through the waters in a boat.

We tried the Kerala style Stir Fried Squids, their signature appam, fish curry & the tender coconut mousse for dessert and man did our taste buds have a ball the entire time 😅 every single dish was crafted with utmost attention to detail & perfection. Needless to say, the food we had at Rice Boat was the best food we had in all of Kochi.

I will definitely visit here again and bring my entire family!...

A fabulous place to have authentic seafood. The dining space has been made in the shape of a Kerala style boat which was used for transporting rice and other essential items from eastern parts of Kerala to Kochi and other ports, hence the name 'Rice boat'. The food is finger licking delicious. If u order the sea food platter, it has more than three types of fish preparation along with Alleppey fish curry. The bread is as per ur choice and KalAppam is best suited for the platter, though nan, paratta etc are available. Vegetarian choice is limited as it is a seafood speciality restaurant. Usually it will cost u 2000 to 3000 per head but one has a choice to pay using Zomato Pro , which will normally fetch u 25% discount.

If you do not want a seafood platter, I would recommend Lobster which is too yummy.

A wonderful place to celebrate ur birthday or anniversary. If you book a table in advance, the restaurant normally will let you celebrate the occasion with a cake, ...

I recommend going here.

The restaurant is right at the very end if the taj hotel, you walk through it. You have a nice view in the river. I recommend securing a table a few days/a week in advance. As there is only limited space and it is very popular.

The server was extremely helpful and can be trusted in his recommendations. Ahilan was the best host/server we ever had in India. It was an absolute pleasure to eat here because he made the whole evening even more enjoyable.

Very friendly and helpful staff.

The food was fantastic. We had a few cocktails which were good. Best to tell how you like them.

The restaurant is beautiful. The table was set up with flowers and a nice candle. Gorgeous plates. I would say it is fine dining.

We had the kerala menu - the crab soup (yummy!!!) and red snapper were my favourites. Had the best paratta in kerala here. Naan garlic was delicious.

Toilets were clean ans with toilet paper.

So I absolutely...

During our research, this place popped up for authentic kerala cuisine. The restaurant is housed within Taj Malabar which is at the far end of Willingdon Island which is primarily filled with shipping offices and oil storage units. If not for this restaurant we wouldnt be visiting this island. The restaurant is small with limited tables and has a decent menu of mostly seafood items. We tried the platter with squid, prawns, two types of fish and a tiger prawn since they didnt have crab meat. Along with this we had the mango prawn curry with kallappam and rice. All these were well done and we were very full by the end of it. We paired our meal with some alcohol which is served from their bar. To top it up, they gave us a portion of dal payasam as dessert which was really tasty. While it is expensive, it was definitely worth a visit.
