I visited East India Cafe in Kochi to celebrate my second marriage anniversary, expecting a memorable experience, but it turned out to be a big letdown. Despite pre-booking a table and choosing outdoor seating, the service was extremely poor.
The restaurant was completely empty, yet no staff attended to us unless I physically left my table to call them from the kitchen area. This happened multiple times. Despite mentioning that it was our anniversary, there was no effort to make the occasion special. Most restaurants would at least offer a thoughtful gesture, or even just attentive service, but here, there was absolutely nothing.
To make matters worse, I ordered a grilled vegetable wrap but requested it to be prepared as a sandwich instead. The staff immediately agreed but failed to mention that this change would cost extra. When the bill came, I was shocked to see that they had brought two separate bills, stating that the sandwich was from a different coffee shop menu and would be charged separately. At no point did they inform me of this while taking the order, nor did they provide the coffee shop menu. Had I known this in advance, I would have avoided ordering it altogether. Besides, the sandwich itself was underwhelming in taste, making the entire situation feel like I was overcharged.
Overall, the lack of transparency, poor service, and absence of any effort to make the evening special left a sour impression. I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re planning a celebration or expecting good...
Read moreHad an exceptional morning here... If I could recall right, this cafe had been open at 8:00am in the morning with a fully functional menu! Now that's an unusual and warm surprise! Right when you enter you are greeted with the likes of a French street; with a stone cladding paved floor and ornamental doors placed along the walls to give the impression of a functional French street with overhanging signs and what not..the clear pvc roof above gives the illusion of a bright sky, so when you enter through the door, it would feel like you have taken a detour through a garden and ended up at a pleasant French street with an outdoor cafe..! The photo booth at the very end adds to the overall glam..you can actually see birds take flight through the clear roof... Complete with the perfect cutlery, seating and epic interior aspects, a polished menu with reasonable pricing, a glamourous and fun filled ambience with the very best of colors, I would call this a very unique and quirky place that you'd come across in Kochi..it's a one of a kind...
Read moreOne among the best café I’ve been to - in all respects.
The ambience is praise worthy, both indoor and outdoor seating done exceptionally well. The staff is very courteous. The place is very well kept.
The menu is continental, and is priced moderate to high. The food is absolutely delicious.
We had the Cordon Bleu, which is unlike anything I’ve had - one among the best dishes I’ve had so far from Kochi. The Chef’s Special Chicken Fajita Tikka Sandwich was so delicious, perfectly executed with the right balance of flavours. Oreo Bannoffee Parfait, with the sweetness of banana lightly infused into the dessert, was okay.
Pricing, again is a mix from moderate to high. For measure, the Chef’s Special Sandwich cost 110/- (yes, I’m not kidding), and the Cordon Bleu cost around 330/-. The Parfait cost 200/-.
Overall, the experience was very delightful. We visited at around 11pm, and had a good time lost in conversations.
Cordon Bleu is a must try from here. You’d easily mistaken the bun for being a bun - it is...
