We visited Rochas Restaurant in Munnar during our trip and tried both dinner and breakfast here. It turned out to be a mixed experience — some dishes were quite good, while others could use improvement.
For dinner, we ordered porota with beef, alfaham, and French fries. The porota and beef were definitely the highlight of the meal — the porotas were soft, layered, and flaky, and the beef was tender, juicy, and packed with rich flavors. You could tell the meat was well-cooked and properly seasoned. The alfaham was also good — nicely grilled with a flavorful marinade, not too dry, and had that smoky taste that makes it satisfying.
The only disappointment during dinner was the French fries. They didn’t taste fresh and had a distinct smell, probably because they were fried in oil that had already been used for other dishes. It took away from the taste and texture of the fries, which could have otherwise been a nice side to the meal.
The next morning, we decided to try breakfast at Rochas as well, hoping for a similarly good experience. Unfortunately, breakfast didn’t live up to expectations. The appam was a bit too tangy for my personal taste — it seemed a little over-fermented. The egg roast that came with it was very average, lacking the depth of flavor you’d expect from a typical Kerala-style preparation. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not something I’d go out of my way to order again.
The ambience of the restaurant was decent — simple, clean, and functional. Service was quick and polite, and the staff were attentive enough to make sure we got our food without much delay. Prices were reasonable for Munnar, and portion sizes were fair.
Overall, I’d say Rochas Restaurant is a one-time-try kind of place. If you’re in the area and looking for a good dinner spot, especially for dishes like porota and beef or alfaham, it’s worth stopping by. But if you’re looking for a great breakfast experience, there are probably better options nearby.
A decent restaurant overall — good for a hearty dinner, but breakfast could use some...
Read moreOk, so it was my 1st time in munnar. I asked my driver to take us to a nice restaurant and he suggested Rocha restaurant. We sat there to have breakfast. 1st of all, the service was pathetic. We were ignored for 20 mins straight without our order been taken. Then a middle aged bald man came to take our order, he was very rude 😒 and was annoyed with us as if we were eating free food. We ordered dosa and 3 plates of Puri bhaji and one kala chana bhaji. 3 plates of Puri were served but only one small bowl of bhaji was given, we asked him to bring 2 more as we were had ordered for 3 and paying for 3 plates. He came back angrily and banged the plates on the table. This gesture was so bad. As a guest to munnar i was shocked. Obviously we were not happy with the service so When he came with the bill (he stood there waiting for the folder)We put exact money in the folder and handed over to him. He opened it, he saw that he was not tipped, so he jst removed the money and gave it back to us saying we should go n pay the money ourselves. We are not from Kerela or munnar, but a customer should always be treated with respect. This is what I believe. We ourself are in service department and definitely not treat our customers this way.
You do can check ✅ our authenticity. We arrived at approx 9 am on 11th June.
Also while leaving, we complain to the person on the reception or bill counter about our experience. He was just quite. No Apology as well. If this is how you treat your customers I'm afraid it's the downfall. Please treat your...
