THE GRILL HOUSE THIRUVALLA- This restaurant & take-away counter has gained popularity in quite a short time since its launch.
Location- This resto is located just about a few metres from the Thiruvalla KSRTC bus stand. Reachable by bus, auto/ a couple of minutes’ walk.
Parking facility- Not so much. A handful of two-wheelers could be parked in front of the resto.
Ambience & dining- Cozy lighting. Dining spaces split into two- one set outside (within the restaurant compound; nearby the kitchen premise) & the other inside. Inside maximum 6 tables & outside 2-3 tables for dining.
Main course- serves authentic Arabian & Chinese cuisines. From all-time favourite Al-faham chicken/BBQ to Chinese like Chilly Chicken, Schezwan chicken. Fried rice & noodles also available (ranging from chicken, egg, veg & mixed). We tried their Al-faham chicken, Ashrouf chicken & Rumali shawarma plate.
Al-faham- not so spicy touch. I liked their flavour, more often inclining to a peppery feel. A portion of chest piece is quite lavish; perfectly cooked with minor areas of over-grill.
Ashrouf chicken- more thick, cheesy, mild-spicy flavour. Not gravy-like, but still thicker than the normal Al-faham marination. Wholesome portion, delicious.
Rumali Plate shawarma- not much better in comparison to competitors. Good amount of chicken loaded with veggies & mayo. Plain flavour, no added peculiar spice/texture. Served with 2 portions of Rumali roti.
Try their iconic Hariyali Chicken if available.
Serving time- quick; arrives within max 5-7 mins of ordering.
Overall experience- Thumbs up! Initiated with more focus on take-away; slowly expanding the dining spaces & seating can improve customer acceptance. Ambience is nice. No uneasiness/suffocation inside the restaurant cabin. Outside dining seats attracts separate vibe.
Highly recommended. Ideal for hangouts.
Update- The resto currently discontinued seeding of mayonnaise owing to ongoing dilemma on food safety & contamination...

After doing some shopping around Thiruvalla, we decided to try this place. Upon arrival, we were given complimentary black coffee, which was a great gesture from the restaurant.
Chicken Barbecue: Unfortunately, the taste was disappointing. It felt like eating chicken coated with red-colored masala without any distinctive flavor. The taste let us down.
Alfam Chicken: This dish was okay. I’ve had better Alfam before, and this one did not satisfy my palate. Compared to the barbecue chicken, it was slightly better, but still not impressive.
Romali Rotti: A normal thin, long roti priced at 20 rupees per piece. It had a standard taste.
The accompanying items further diminished our dining experience. The salads contained more cabbage than other vegetables, making me feel like a rabbit in the room 😄.
The gravy was like colored water without any taste. Someone should teach them how to make a proper gravy—it was pathetic. The mayonnaise was also watery and not a great experience.
The green chutney was okay, a mix of water and mint, but it lacked any strong flavor. My heart was broken after the first bite of the barbecue and the accompanying items.
Overall, this is a place you can avoid. I haven't tried the rest of the menu, so perhaps the Chinese dishes might be better. It might be worth giving those a try.
The highlight of our dining experience was the lime juice. It was excellent and likely made with lemon peel, which improved the taste significantly. I became a fan of the lime juice, but a hater of the main courses.
The chef needs to improve or improvise....

Grill house is one of the best shops in thiruvalla serving varieties of grills. They have chicken and fish grills, including tandoori, alfam, bbq, ashrouf , hariyali etc .. all the grills are under 150 and tastes really good. They have a small dining space with 8-10 tables. Most of the times all seats are packed.
I accidentally bought shawarma from here because the shop which I wanted to buy was closed. They have different varieties of shawarma including rumali, kuboos, whole meat... The best part of the shawarma were the fillings... It was so yummy and had a great quantity of meat. There were no unwanted veggies or fillings... The quantity of mayo was little great and it resulted in an extra saltiness. But it was so good. For the rumali shawarma they takes a whole rumali and it is little chewey and more heavy. Rumali shawarma fills your stomach almost completely... Due to lockdown and government protocols dine in is currently not available. You can grab both the snack and meal from the same spot. I didn't ate the pickles it doesn't...
