After a lot of hearing about Ustad Hotel for sometime, we decided to try it out. I had tried going their a week earlier for lunch. I was disappointed to know if opens only after 4 pm. This time we reached after 1930 hours on a Saturday. It is a very traditional Kerala hotel, which is a house turned into an eatery. From the outside you can see porottas being made, and that sight itself will make your mouth watery, if you weren't hungry earlier. The appams are also fried outside. The seating is available only for 16 to 20 people at a time, so be prepared to wait for sometime which is the case mostly. On this day I had to wait for at least 15 minutes and that is less as it was a rainy day. There were flies around, which was a spoiler for our 6 year old daughter. It sidi took a while for them to clean the table, which I felt could have been faster. We ordered porotta and appams with prawns and mussels (chippi.) Porottas are smaller than the usual size, but soft and each one gets over in no time. Appam is also small, and for me it wasn't impressive. I have softer appams at home. The mussels were outrightly delicious. Prawns were whole and it takes a while to de-shell it. Prawns were fresh, but to me mussels were better. Its not often you see prawns getting upstaged, but here it was happening. I think its due to the fact that it takes a while for the flavors to get into flesh of prawns, as shells might be causing a delay. We rounded it off with a mint and lime tea, which was able to stand on its own even amongst this impressive seafood dishes. I had heard that pricing was in the higher side, compared to a few places nearby. I cannot comment as I haven't been to the others. For us pricing was not expensive for the quality of food served. The staffs are friendly and try to do their best in accommodating customer services.

A homely hotel with spicy sea food. All fish varieties are available. Fish fries are there own style. Tasty preparation. Homely ambience. Simple serving crews. Need to wait a little more. All other dishes are not. Parking spaces are available. Price compromising with quality and quantity. Best place for seafood lovers.. Good Restaurant, famous for Fish items alone. Visited multiple Times. Pros: Great fresh seafood items, Good and quick service. Decent Parking both inside compound and on the road outside. They generally serve multiple types of fish, prawns, squid etc.All items are fried and they give free fish gravy.Puttu, Appam , parotta and Kappa are the only accompaniments. A great spot to try seafood! This was our first visit, and we tried out- the crab, kappa, pomfret, and parotta. The food was delicious, well-cooked, too good and the spice levels were just right. However, the prices seemed a bit on the higher side. The ambiance was fine, and the service was excellent, especially from staff member Shafeer, who was friendly, well-mannered, and ensured our order arrived quickly. The seating capacity is limited, and during peak hours, there's usually a wait of 10 to 20 minutes. It's often quite crowded most days. Toilet facilities are available. One important tip: carry cash, as they don’t accept GPay or other online payment methods, which we found a bit inconvenient. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience, and it's definitely worth a visit!

I felt it was worth the hype,, the wait and the anticipation just makes us want the food so much. We had neymeen n kanava. And a plate of kappa and one serving of parotta containing 10nos. The person next to us ordered aavoli and upon seeing that, we also thought we should've gotten that. That also looked so good. But our neymeen was the star of the show. So fatty and fried, it tasted ultimate. Kanava was a little too rubbery for my liking but it was definitely big! Kudos to the ppl managing the rush there. The servers too deserve appreciation. They are always keen to do whatever needed for the customer. Price wise also it aint too much. So if u can live with the hassle of getting till there, u can enjoy the food very much. A friendly bloke at the counter told about how they used to be at an older location but got screwed over by the then owner. But still, these guys only win at business. Also, saw an instance where one of the server staff persons helped a poor old man, by packing him some food and giving it for free. It felt like a nice gesture even in that sorta madness rush. All in all will definitely recommend and even think about visiting again.

Usthad Hotel is a seafood restaurant located in Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It is a small, family-run restaurant that serves up some of the best seafood in the area. The menu is extensive, with a wide variety of fish, squid, and crab dishes to choose from. The food is always fresh and well-cooked, and the prices are very reasonable.

The restaurant is very popular, and it is often crowded, especially on weekends. If you're planning on visiting, be sure to make a reservation in advance. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and they will make sure that you have a great dining experience.

Here are some of the dishes that I recommend:

Neymeen fry: This is a dish of seer fish that is fried to perfection. The fish is crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside.

Appam: This is a type of pancake that is made from fermented rice flour and coconut milk. It is the perfect accompaniment to any seafood dish.

Kozhuva: This is a type of fish that is similar to mackerel. It is usually cooked in a curry or stew.

Ayla: This is a type of fish that is similar to pomfret. It is usually grilled or fried.

Oyster: This is a type of shellfish that is served raw or cooked.

Squid: This is a type of shellfish that is usually fried or stir-fried.

If you're looking for a great seafood restaurant, Usthad Hotel is the place to go. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly and...
