Abar Bhaitak at Kalighat feels less like a café and more like a familiar corner of the city where conversations flow as freely as the tea and coffee. I visited with friends, and together we shared an evening that was as much about the flavors on the table as it was about the warmth of companionship.
Between us, we tried the cappuccino, café mocha, walnut brownie, peach iced tea, and the caramel custard—each carrying its own quiet charm. The cappuccino was robust yet smooth, the café mocha indulgent with just the right note of sweetness. The walnut brownie was dense and satisfying, rich without being overwhelming, while the caramel custard felt like comfort itself—silky, homely, and nostalgic. The peach iced tea offered a refreshing pause, light and cooling against the heavier flavors.
But beyond the food, what stood out most was the ambience. Scribbled walls, retro posters, mismatched furniture, and the hum of adda made it feel alive in the most authentic way. It’s a space where time slows down, where laughter lingers long after cups are empty.
Abar Bhaitak isn’t about luxury—it’s about moments. And in those moments, over coffee and dessert, it...
Read moreI always prefer a place more on food quality than ambience...yes if it's totally not matching my purpose like I want to chitchat in a comfortable position with some papers or on a humid day I want to be in an air-conditioned atmosphere thTa a diff story but if the food quality is not upto the mark I generally don't give a thumps up to those places because ultimately we are giving our time and money to the taste of quality of the food.
So this place is total thumbs up in this genre as the food quality is highly recommended and tastes awesome..they recommends genuinely so that u r not spoilt and confused with so many choices..but I have gone to both of their branches in jodhpur park and lake market and I can assure u the food and the ambience in both of them .The jodhpur park one is little crowded but lake market one is a paradise for a good chitchat in the quiet place as the crowd is much lesser and there is open sitting also if u like to explore in a windy or cold winterday . So my recommendation is a must go and mustry their continental platters and crispy chicken as starter...
Read moreIn most restaurants and cafes once you get settled and are looking at the menu you are offered water. Either filtered tap water or bottled ones. Not so at this one. And I think this is also an issue that’s at places which are predominantly staffed by males. Spent an entire hour at this place, ordered milkshakes and food - but no glass of water appeared. That’s odd. And all the while some cricket match was on loudly.
The “fish and chips” is actually fish cutlets and fries - I am not sure whether that’s by design or necessity, but that’s inauthentic as well.
I have had food here at other times and the service was far better and more forthright about delays because of food choices. A half an hour delay to serve food (sandwiches and fish/chips) without informing the patrons is the kind of service that screams “we don’t want to have you in our empty restaurant”.
It is a pity because the one at Jodhpur Park is much better and customer focused...
