Some cafes are more about passion than anything else - I would like to define BRU MUGS CAFE in that zone - a brainchild of dear Saibal da & Papia di - you can notice that passion in almost every word they speak about their cafe and rightly so because I strongly believe that the backbone of this cafe is the #passion behind it..
Although it's close to two years old already but very few people seem to know about this place apart from it's regular set of staunch loyalists - the moment you enter - it will instantly exude an European charm like none other - you will feel like you have entered a French Bistro by the countryside - every corner of the cafe has an aesthetic appeal..
It's any caffeine lover and/or Continental food lover's paradise - wonderful coffees followed by delicious continental delicacies awaits you at this beautiful bistro.. We tried the following coffees: Cappuccino, Expresso Macchiato, Sweet Vietnamese Coffee, Sparkling Coffee & Blue Cappuccino - each one of them had a distinct taste and flavour - you need to try them yourself to feel the same..
Incase, if you are a shake lover - Chrunchy Brownie Shake & Peanut Butter Oreo Shake are strongly recommended and if you are in mood for some mocktails - do try their Cucumber Lemonade, Mint Mojito or Immunity Booster Drink (a necessity in today's world for obvious reasons)..
We also tried the following Continental delicacies:
Baked Fish: Kolkata Bhetki baked with cheese & served with sauteed veggies - an absolute delight..
Chilly Orange Fish: An innovative delicacy where every bite of Kolkata Bhetki will have a chilly cum orange flavour to it..
Egg Benedict: Very few places in Kolkata serves you this delicacy and they certainly serve you the best version..
Piggy Sub: As the name suggests, this one is any pork lover's delight - what makes it even more appealing & fresh is the fact that all the breads used in any of their preparations are self baked by them..
Grilled BarbQue Chicken Sandwich is pretty heavy because of the fact that it is stuffed with loads of grilled chicken & cheese..
Olive Stuffed Chicken was yet another unique continental delicacy they serve that one shouldn't miss out on..
Fish & chips: The classic continental delicacy which is sold almost everywhere but rarely made to perfection - thankfully, the one you get to taste here is made of the best quality Kolkata Bhetki always which ensures you get the best taste every time..
All Meat Burger is a must try for any burger lover - the in-house baked buns are soft plus the freshly made pork patty & bacon makes it irresistible..
Pork Chops out here is sheer porkgasm - check the size in the picture below - need i say anything more!!
All Meat French Platter was a delight to my tastebuds because of the outstanding quality of their imported sausages, ham & bacon - genuinely floored to say the least..
Last but not the least, Caramel Pudding & Brownie with Icecream were the perfect set of desserts to end an amazing meal on a high.. If you wish to end it on a coffeelicious note - I would suggest go for the Affogatto Dessert..

Read moreI do not have a single positive thing to say about this place. All I can say is.... PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY. I have , never in my life, tasted such horrible food. They charge you exorbitantly high for every single dish that doesn't even have an average quality. On top of it, they give you overcooked food.🤮😖I was returning from work and wanted to eat out because my cook was absent, didn't feel like cooking for myself and there was no one at home. This place is also very near to my house. The cafe had this old man sitting outside and inside, a middle aged lady. That's it! Cannot comment if it's always like this but I visited at around 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. As I was about to order food, the old man came and insisted me to try their chicken egg baked in cheese, which is supposedly their signature dish. My goodness! A dish cannot taste horrible than this! Trust me. Dry from inside, no flavors at all. My mood was terrible after getting this, when the reality is, I trusted his choice when I was so hungry. I somehow couldn't finish the dish. And the price of the dish was 370! Seriously? 🙄🙄 I was still hungry as I have left out half of the dish. The old man said, they have brownies. Yet another disaster! It was nowhere even close to a cake, let alone a brownie! Horrible tasting, undercooked glutinous mess! I had to leave. I was charged a bill of 570 for the lunch I brought of which 70% went into the trash. They were generous to offer me a discount of 70 rupees though. Wow! Isn't it amazing? And the worst was yet to come. The man who was catering me all this while, told me, that those so called brownies are made two weeks ahead and refrigerated 🙊. Hearing this I felt like even puking out the little food I had eaten. 🥴 I wish there was a way to put 'no stars'...
Read moreThis is exactly what a specialty coffee shop should be. The owner knows his coffee and is very passionate about making your whole coffee drinking experience one you won't forget. The manager, too, is very amiable. They will not welcome you with meaningless, calculated smiles and robotic greetings, but they will make you feel at home with their conversations, we bengalis call "the adda". It won't feel like a shop anymore once you chat up with the owner and the manager, who are always present in the shop, you would be teleported to the balcony of your home, your personal coffeehouse. The coffee here is, to me, the best in town, if I may be bold enough to say so. The roasting is done to the optimum celcius and the brew tastes great. The owner is passionate about bringing in beans from around the world, including the lucrative kopi luwak. Be sure to ask him about the beans, and he will happily talk about it.
The only chance of improvement this near-perfect coffeeshop has is to market the plethora of coffee varieties they have available here. They make great coffee but their menu and decor will point you towards regular cookie cutter espresso beverages and coffeeshop food, but in reality this shop offers much, much more than that. So, if you know your coffee and do not settle for just a mocha or a flat white, ask the owner or the manager, they will cater as per your choice, same...
