Cantonese Restaurant, located near Jadavpur University on Raja S.C. Mullick Road, is one of the most popular destinations in South Kolkata for lovers of Chinese and Cantonese cuisine. The restaurant has built a loyal base of customers over the years, and a visit makes it easy to see why.
The ambiance is simple yet comfortable, with cozy seating, dim lighting, and a red-and-black theme that adds a warm touch. It is a place equally suited for family dinners, casual outings with friends, or even a quiet lunch on weekdays. The staff are polite, attentive, and serve with efficiency, which enhances the dining experience.
Food is undoubtedly the star here. Diners are greeted with complimentary prawn crackers, a delightful gesture that sets the tone for the meal. Popular favorites include Thai Chilli Chicken, Golden Garlic Fried Rice, Seafood Hakka Noodles, and Basil Chicken Dumplings. Their pork and prawn dishes are also highly praised, with the wok-tossed prawns standing out for their freshness and flavor. For dessert, the Darsaan with vanilla ice cream is a must-try, balancing sweetness and crunch perfectly. Portions are generous, and pricing is reasonable—around ₹1,000–1,200 for two people—making it good value for money.
That said, the delivery experience does not always match the dine-in quality. Some customers have noted smaller portion sizes or inconsistencies in flavor when ordering online. During peak hours, the restaurant can also feel a bit crowded, which may take away from the otherwise cozy atmosphere.
Overall, Cantonese Restaurant is a reliable choice for those seeking authentic and flavorful Chinese cuisine in Jadavpur. While best enjoyed in person rather than through delivery, its combination of hearty food, pleasant service, and reasonable prices makes it a highly recommended dining spot in...
Read moreI have been a constant customer since 2020. I have ordered over 50 times from the restaurant. The name Cantonese suggests their speciality in Cantonese gravy noodles. They made the best Cantonese with all kinds of sea food veges and great proportion of chicken and fish and it was very hard to finish for a single person. But in recent times especially over the last 6 months, I have faced 2 drastic incidents. They sufficed for the first with some goodies and remaking the order while in the latest case I was not even contacted by the restaurant even though I did not want to take the matter to a public platform and wanted to convey my message directly to the manager. They are now least bothered about service and the product. In the first Zomato order some months back I found out in my entire noodles in both the containers ordered, red ants creeping all over the noodles. I contacted Zomato. Their policies of issue with the order is now limited to only apology and advice to write a review, no refund and no compensation. So I contacted the restaurant and tried their best to appease me with some delights and a reorder within 2 days. This latest incident I found a meter long hair( hopefully woman since the hair was very thin). Now anyone who is paying such a huge amount for a delicacy, do you expect these things getting repeated???? I mean who prepares with such carelessness. This can happen once but happening twice with one customer means multiple cases occurring where people are just letting it pass. Woman employees don’t work till midnight, this also reveals that the noodles are prepared way before 5 hours of the final product served on plate.
I did not want to post this but I am forced to. Money will come back but not health. Stay safe guys...

Dropped in at this old restaurant at Jadavpur 8B for the first time a couple of months ago and it was a pleasant experience..
The decor is pretty simple - you will certainly enjoy sitting on a table beside those glass windows overlooking the busy street outside - service could be a lot better - pricing is slightly higher than expected..
#RoastedPorkwithMushroomSauce was a delight to the tastebuds - perfect meat fat ratio maintained with an amazing texture - well roasted and the pork was tender to the tee..
#FriedIcecream is one my all time favourite desserts and I was pretty sceptical about how will they make it but still ordered for the same & I am glad I did bcz the fried Icecream was certainly a perfect finish to a quick meal - the fried coating was made of coconut which made it soft & crispy - the vanilla icecream inside was super delicious to say the least
Will drop in soon post lockdown to try out the remaining delicacies on the menu.. Incase, if you haven't been to this one yet - I would certainly recommend you to drop in once post lockdown
