Visited on Christmas eve (morning hours) Decided to visit this bakery after some recommendations. It's an old bakery operating since 1930. Located deep inside with narrow streets, about 15 mins walk from Park Street metro station. Suggest you use Google Maps to reach there as the location is not very easy to find otherwise. Now coming to the taste and quality: Bought Rich Fruit Cake (INR 360) and Walnut Cake (INR 340). Both seemed freshly baked. Rich Fruit Cake is relatively small in size and okay in taste, but with a STRONG CHEMICAL-ish smell. Walnut cake is decent. However, I must say that THE PRICE is SUPER EXPENSIVE for both when COMPARED to QUALITY. A more than fair price would be in the range of INR 250-275 (max). The premium they ask is because of irrational HYPE created for some reason. You will find plenty of cakes of comparable quality all over Kolkata at 30-35%+ less price. If you reside far away from this bakery, FOR NO rational reason you should visit this far and stand in LONG QUEUE to buy MEDIOCRE Cakes at SUPER EXPENSIVE prices. Rather buy from your local Cake shops Another annoying point is...they DO NOT accept credit/debit cards or any other electronic payments for that matter...ONLY CASH VERDICT: NOT AT ALL SPECIAL AND VERY MUCH AVOIDABLE (3 out of 5 stars at max - for the price to quality ratio)

We went here after reading raving reviews about this place Here's the pros and cons The pros: 1. Price reasonable. 2. Quality delicious and fresh. As all the baked goods are homemade. (Although I didn't like the cheese puffs. ) The cons: 1. The road to get there is narrow, congested. If you are taking public transportation, take the Esplanade-lohapool auto. Or be ready to walk more than 1-2kms. 2. I went on a normal March evening when there was no Christmas rush. You have to order ahead to get the goodies of your choice, otherwise you will have a very very limited choice of baked goods or not. 3. Online ordering available but not via Zomato/Swiggy. They home deliver only across Kolkata, but your order bill should be above ₹800/- otherwise you have to collect it by yourself. 4. No UPI payment accepted. Only cash. I have attached both the Christmas and the on-line ordering menus. Give it a go if you want to taste Parsi bakery products. Personally this will be a one time thing for me, as there are varieties of bakeries in Kolkata now to order and have a treat at the same cost and convenience. 😊

Since long I had the wish to visit this renowned establishment. The approach is a very narrow lane but once you enter the premises it is quite spacious as well as neat and clean. The queue management system during the pandemic time is also good. The do have sanitizer dispensers at two places. One at the entry to the premises and the other just before entry to the TA counter. All the items they sell are simply too good. Nahoum's etc doesn't even come anywhere near to Saldanha's standards. We had purchased rich fruit cake, fruit cake, English tea cake, walnut cake, coconut macaroon, blueberry muffins. Wanted to purchase some patties but they were all sold out. All the items were superb to say the least. One needs to go early during the day to be able to get all the items in their list. Best bakery in Kolkata. Period.

Best in food quality worst in customer dealing. Extremely unprofessional people. If you call them to enquire about any item and whether it is available or not, they will tell you to visit their store. You will travel from what every place you are and see that the item is already sold out. They will not take any order so that you can pick that order from their store. They will not receive any online payment/card payment - cash is the only option. To eat their cakes you need to leave all of your work and visit their place early morning with bundle of cash so that you can take decision and buy based on the availablity. This shop is clearly harassing it's customers by its unprofessional behaviour. We have visited this place already 3 times for a particular item and we are yet to get that. Is it really possible to invest so much time for just the food quality? This situation can be easily avoided if they took order over phone and let us pay the amount online to have their assurance that we will definitely visit the shop to pick those item. If you have limited stock then why you are not telling customers to visit some other day as stock is already low, when the customer is asking for a particular item you can easily check the stock, right? Instead of that when a customer calls them to know about the availability of an item they will say that yes it is available but we can not keep it aside, come to store and you will get it but the result is completely different. Petrol expenses, time consumed to reach the place - these things are only customer's headache, they are sitting there to only accept cash. This entire system is unprofessional and today or tomorrow they are going to suffer for their unprofessional approach. Only food quality can not make you survive in this competitive world. You have to understand that people who are visiting your shop are not your next day neighbours, we have to travel for hours to reach your odd location, it takes time and money both. How many days can I waste like this to get your products? Is it at all justifiable? The answer is NO. You are a good confectioner but worst service provider. I will definitely not advice anyone to visit your place as who ever will go based on my suggestion and face your same unprofessional behaviour will blame me for their loss of time and money. In the generation of AI you are stuck in CASH ONLY, this is completely a business policy to hide income that I clearly understand. Even Swiggy face complaints of late delivery and order cancellation due to that - how will you survive with your unprofessional approach? Think properly. If customers stop visiting your place then who will eat...

In my personal experience i have visited many bakery shops till date in order to get the fresh baked Christmas cakes for my family members. But previously my family ritual was to visit Nahoums and get the cake for the family. But this time I had something different in my mind. Visiting Nahoums was like a normal routine task every year so I planned from where can I get the fresh baked cakes but not from the regular place. So, I got in touch with one of my closest friends who have been buying from this particular bakery named Saldanha Bakery, which is doing quite well in the recent years. So I planned and went to the bakery to get the cakes. So when I got there it was a huge line of approximate 30 - 40 people before me. So I got a chance to have a conversation with the customers over there and they have been standing for quite a long time. So when my turn came it was already around 2 hours long and my phone's battery was also dying. So I bought the Rich Fruit cake, Walnut cake and the Choco Walnut Cake for this year's Christmas. I want all my fellow followers and readers to visit Saldanha Bakery at least once and see it for yourself how busy the bakery is during this particular Christmas period. If possible please give pre-order if possible by giving them a call max to max 2 days prior also if you people want you can give 3 days before as well by visiting the store physically. The best way you can reach the store if coming by bus then make yoir stop at Maulana Azad College because it's just 650 mts from there also keep in mind if coming from KANKURGACHI side then it's towards the left after making stop at Maulana Azad College and if coming from Janbazar side then it's towards the right of Maulana Azad College but the distance remains the...

Had a few bad experiences here! I ordered some blueberry cupcakes with frosting a few weeks back. The cupcakes did NOT have the blueberry filling, neither did it have the frosting. The were PLAIN cupcakes similar to the 2-rupee ones sold in grocery stores and tea shops. When I reported this matter to them, they acknowledged that it was a genuine mistake, but did nothing whatsoever to replace the cupcakes or refund my money. Major disappointment.

During Christmas season, I had ordered some traditional 'log cakes', but what I got was a Christmas cake with almond icing. As always, they cited that they were 'busy' and hence cannot help. (If they were so busy and helpless, why did they even promise me something they cannot deliver? ).

Also faced some instances wherein I was promised home delivery and availability of certain items (savouries), but in the last minute I was told that home delivery is not possible. When I picked up the order and reached home, I found certain items like sandwiches and marzipan were missing. Upon being asked, they simply said that they did not have the bread or the marzipan. Why couldn't they inform us earlier?

The two ladies employed to handle customers (one Chinese lady and the other an Anglo lady) are also a bit abrupt and hasty with people. The prices of products need to also be reduced a bit.

Apart from these instances, Saldanha Bakery has great potential. The hardwork of the family deserves special mention. Mrs Saldanha is very cordial with her customers. Please work on these points mentioned... and COMPENSATE OR REFUND customers in case of...
