As-salaamu alaykum dear Sisters and Brothers,

I visited this place many years ago when I was travelling from Dibrugarh, Assam to Kolkata.

I asked locals travelling with me in the train on tourist places I must never miss when visiting Kolkata and and someone mentioned that I should visit the Nakhoda Masjid.

After Al Fajr Sa'lah, I took a taxi and visited it. On my way out, I was searching for places to have a good breakfast. That's when I discovered this eat out down the road.

It serves amazing food.

I had rotis with Nihari paaya.

I have lived in hyderabad for many years, and this place served the best hyderabadi breakfast I have ever eaten, for life.

The food was so good, alhamdulillah. If you choose to parcel it or take leftovers, do not take it in the plastic containers they provide, carry a stainless steel container or tiffin box so that the hot food does not spoil when u decide to have it later during the day.

I had taken my leftover nihari in a plastic food storage container, thinking I would have it for lunch and it got spoiled.

|NIHARI AT SUFIA, KOLKATA|

We, the people of Kolkata, have certain obsession over roadside morning breakfasts no matter what. Strings of local stalls selling kochuri sobji, radhaballavi, luchi cholar dal etc. is ultimately what we crave for. But, irrespective of those regular meals, why not try something different this time?

Sufia's famous warm breakfast gives one such experience where people queue up early in the morning especially during the winters.

🔹 ABOUT NIHARI- The word 'Nihari' came from the Arabic word, 'Nahar' meaning 'morning'. It is made from the shank meat of beef along with the bone marrow. Slow cooked for 6-8 hours, the meat is cooked with spices in huge vessels sealed with dough.

🔹 WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT IT? It is said that Nihari was eaten on an empty stomach by the Nawabs during the Mughal period as a breakfast meal usually after the morning prayers. Soon as years passed by, it gained popularity as a home remedy for cold, fever, boosting immunity etc along with it's satisfying taste.

Sufia Restaurant, an age-old establishment having mediocre ambiance yet setting the bar high when it comes to serving mouth watering nihari & paya. Two big tender pieces of meat is served in a plate (Rs 140/-) with coriander leaves and chillies garnished on the top going perfectly with gorom gorom dal puris/tandoori rotis (Rs 5/- pc) Lastly, don't forget to squeeze lemon into the dish as it takes you to a whole new aromatic ride. So, sacrifice your sleep for one morning & don't forget to thank me later.

✅ Available only in Beef ✅ Takeaway available ✅ Timings: Mon-Sun, 5am- 8am (go as early...

Nahari is good here. No need to rush before sunrise like people who pointlessly crowd and rush early in the morning, considering very limited and densely packed shared seating space.

Leisurely go around after waking up after sunrise around 6-30AM & relaxing/chilling, so that waiter can attend you and place is not crowded. Nahari will continue to be served here for rest of this month till end of February at the very least this year.

It's better to eat the food here itself instead of any takeaway, since smaller portion (i.e. only one piece meat) appropriate for one person is available there for ₹120/- presently. If takeaway then minimum 2piece of cow, for ₹230/- and the fat etc will solidify and not taste as good as if eating fresh directly there.

Although fried dalpuri type luchi/kochuri/radhapallabi is available there, better to instead have the gravy with something lighter like atta tandoori roti or khameeri roti etc. Attaching photo of present food Menu board.

Also, just in case someone doesn't like cow meat there is also option of goat hoof which is very soft tender and delicious falling off the bone after long hours of slow cooking. But that gravy is not as tasty in being excessively masala rich type spicy, and also for just one foot costing ₹ 180/- regardless of whether eating there or takeaway. The Roti is for...

In the winter this place is famous for its nahari. The crowds are to be seen to be believed. I don't remember witnessing the kind of frenzy that I saw on a recent Sunday morning for the nahari. It's all about the nahari and nothing else. It appears to be so popular that people bring in containers which are labelled day wise and kept in lines - then filled and kept there for it to be picked up. The crowds are awe inspiring. I have seen smaller to fill water. The story goes that it opens at 4 am and all the food is done by 6am and Google prompts so too. We went inspite of it being 6am and were richly rewarded with some great nahari and an even greater experience. The shop is very small and very crowded with quick service and eaten on small tables - 6 to each. The nahari itself is very rich and the meat very well cooked and melting soft. Mild in taste and a distinct taste of kevra , you could season with lemon and coriander served in paper packets. It is eaten with either dal poori ( barely enough dal stuffing) or naan. The naan's the way to go. Good food and a better food experience. Must see in winter Kolkata
