Hello everyone! I really hope you all get to read this . I am (27 Female) and me along with my friend (she is a journalist) decided to visit "That Red House" cafe on 7th of May 2025 around 6.30 pm for a pre birthday meet-up. I pre booked with Zomato as planned. We both decided to meet at the cafe after our office hours. I was a bit early and reached the cafe near about 6 while my friend was still on the way..The cafe is located in a very quiet place with an amazing homely ambience. It must have been a perfect place to hangout for many of you like me who love peaceful places. As soon as I entered, i found some difficulty opening the door as it was a new one (mentioned by the stuff) . The cafe was completely empty, there was only one person at the cafe and he immediately started closing the windows as soon as I entered to turn on the Air conditioner. Everything seemed pretty good till then.. I kept my bag at a table near the counter and started exploring the cafe. I approached towards a table box there which somewhat looked like a vintage piano to me and asked the only stuff there what that was for. He came up to me, literally going over me to open and show that it was a table kept for personal use only. Now note that during this time , his elbow was touching my private part and i immediately backed off thinking it was a complete mistake. I gave him the benefit of doubt once. Within 2-3 minutes, the same scenario repeated again.. This guy was trying to lean over me and show me some magazines which had some sort of pictures. His force was so strong that I had to push him away with all my strength and kept staring at him with astonishment. He said sorry with a smirk on his face and then went and stood beside the counter. Now note that I am a very vocal person, I do take stand even for strangers sometimes when required. When it came to me, i panicked. Immediately called one of my friends. I shared my location and asked him to stay over the cl till my friend reached. I was so scared of the situation that i didn't even dare to grab my bag and go out as there were chances he could have caught me. I was walking near the door making sure he didn't approach me anymore..This incident took place somewhere between 6.10-6.20 pm. My friend arrived near about 6.30 and I explained to her about the situation that I wanted to get out of this cafe as i didn't feel safe there. She being a journalist, did all the right things. She called the man out of the cafe. The man immediately apologized saying it was not intentional at all and stuff.. It was on his face that he was pretty aware about what he tried doing. He was continuously asking us to come inside the cafe and kept on repeating throughout. We called the owner "Shamik Roy" who has been super polite and apologetic to us. He was apologizing the whole time so honestly I have no complaints against him. He said that he will fire the stuff (Jagabandhu) which i think he should do immediately. There were two CCTV cameras which i could notice and Jagabandhu was still not scared of harassing a woman at 6.30 pm in a peaceful locality in the heart of Kolkata! It's pretty alarming. Anyway, we didn't file any police complaints just because of the behaviour of the Owner. He handled the situation pretty nicely must say. But yes, this is a pretty alarming situation. I have never ever thought that something like this can happen to me even in my wildest dreams. It's a request for the owner, please check the CCTV footage of the time mentioned, you will get to see everything. Please fire perverts like this immediately. Your cafe is amazing, just not the stuff. I would love to visit there someday if you can make it safe for us.....
Read moreI'll say though, the location is very weird. Not the address itself, but how it's basically like entering someone's home in a middle of an established colony. This ain't a place that's in the forefront of a main road or a popular street.
As for what I ordered:
1] I did ask the waiter to add less ice, so he did, and this is the product. Honestly, it doesn't taste bad. You can weirdly taste the freshness of orange in it, not the artificial kind. I'll say, though, for ₹75, this is a bit steep, but on the other hand, you do get it in a glass with a glass straw. So overall, get this if you come here on a hot summer day. I'll say it's better than a regular Mojito.
2] I wanted to order roast chicken, but I was told it doesn't have chicken breast, but rather only a chicken leg piece (in my opinion, not a drumstick, but more like the leg piece you get in biryani). So I ordered this. Honestly, I don't hate it. For the price, it's decent, and I'll say it's value for money. Though I'll say the cheese here isn't the best quality, the sauce that came by the side tasted weird. But on the other hand, the herbed rice tasted really good, even with my jammed nostrils due to a cold. The chicken tasted between good and great, and the veggies were...
