In a quaint little corner, practically hidden behind the big signages is this quaint little place. Walls , furnitures and frames hand painted by a friend of the owner Manju Dutta who is a joint owner with Vikram Malhotra of the famous Skyroom in Calcutta now Kolkata. Southern Avenue is one of the few places left in the city with a green corridor. It's sheer nostalgia especially if you grew up in and around that area and had a cargo of memories to carry till the end. This is city who loves a story and if you add food with it....its a hit. The Olde House not only gave us that story but also served us some exquisite food. Starting with a Double Fungi which is a cheese and mushrooms starter with a crunch we went onto the classic Prawn Cocktail. Both were really good. Though I personally liked the Double Fungi better. Our mains consisted of mainly classics. Chicken-ala-Kiev, Chateaubriand was served with a choice of two sauces, mushroom and pepper and an Old Fashioned Mixed Grilled which had a killer flavor sauce to die for. The Chicken Tettrazini and the Fish and Chips were equally good as my son decided to clean the plates and claimed to over eat as the food was outstanding. The Chocolate Ganache was the icing on the cake. Perfect flavour and not extremely sweet as we generally get in other outlets. Well if you live in the city visit anytime but since Durga Puja is just about a month to go....better make reservations prior. The 2nd floor is also on Airbnb and is available for small parties which too needs to be booked...
Read moreWe had a terrible experience at this venue, which we had booked for my son's birthday last Sunday, 03.08.25.
Right from the start, the owner (a lady) behaved very politely and seemed accommodating, but after receiving payments, her attitude completely changed. She demanded 60% of the payment on the day of booking, followed by another 20% just a couple of days later. She was constantly calling and pressuring us for money, even going as far as threatening that she would not provide certain services unless the payments were made immediately. On the day of the event itself, she again insisted on the remaining amount in the morning, showing no professionalism or courtesy.
Despite all payments being made as per her demands, the services provided were extremely poor. The venue was not decorated according to what was promised. The bathrooms were in bad condition.
We were especially disappointed with the food arrangements. While we had paid for a certain quantity, the actual food served was much less than what we were told. Quality was terrible, and we had to make emergency arrangements from outside, which added to our stress and expense. Fortunately, fewer guests showed up than expected, or we would have faced a major embarrassment.
Overall, this place lacked professionalism, honesty, and basic customer service. It turned what was supposed to be a joyful celebration into a very stressful and upsetting experience. I strongly do not recommend this...
Read moreGood ! But nothing close to our earstwhile Skyroom. The persons should not falsly advertise that it is like the unforgettable, fantastic restuarant which our generation still remember with love! Food is alright! But request please do not compare with cuisine of Skyroom. The senior Mr. Malhotra was always present to cater to his clientele and not single diner went back dissatisfied! I have friends from abroad and all parts of India, who especially came to Calcutta to taste the fantastic food served at Skyroom! The recently opened Olde House should pay more attention to service. If the service is such as this on a Wednesday, I cannot imagine what the service is like on a holiday! They should be more particular about food being served. I had ordered Pork Chop with Apple sauce. I was surprised to be served a dish with chilli barbecue sauce and an excuse of apple sauce! Not expected of a restaurant which advertises as erstwhile Skyroom! I never had Pork chops with chilly hot sauce which is advertised as Continental dish! The food and cuisine is like any other restaurants dotting South Kolkata with a tendency to serve Spicy Continental food! Please do not advertise as authentic Continental food! Had visited with high expectations! Was really disappointed! Henceforth will stay with Mezzuna ( Forum Mall), Mangio in Alipore or Mocambo's and...
