Naga Galho -Rs.100 Gooseberry Tea -Rs.20 Tribal Kitchen, Don Bosco Square, Shillong Naga $$ 15.05.24 Today me & Isaac are eating at Don Bosco Square in a restaurant most of us reading this have passed by atleast once. I'm talking about Tribal Kitchen. It was raining profusely outside & that made me want something soupy but a little bit more heavy. I actually came here for the Galho. This is the first place I'm seeing this Naga dish in any restaurant in Shillong. There maybe other restaurants offering it but I have not noticed it till now. Anyway I asked for a portion of the Galho while Isaac opted for the Pork & Bamboo Shoot with rice. Galho is basically a rice Congee. Infact quoting Isaac, many north eastern tribes have their own version of rice Congee. The Mizos have buhchhiar/sawhchhiar, the Garos have pura, the Tripura have chakhui. I'm sure the other tribes also have one form or the other. This particular Galho dish is from a restaurant run by a family belonging to the Angami tribe from Nagaland. Anyway the Galho came in 15 mins in a bowl of rice in pork broth with pieces of pork & cooked with mint leaves & chillies. I took my first spoonful & the rice was soft & warm, the soup was a bit rich & spicy but the mint flavors just cut through the richness. The spiciness grew with every spoon. The meat was sliced into thin pieces & cooked very well that the fat portion of the meat was almost melting. The flavors were as robust as its looks. May not look very appetizing at first but you will love it once you get to know her better. The gooseberry Tea was lovely. Instagram ID - kari.on.eats

I had a disappointing experience at the restaurant. While I appreciate the attempt to offer Naga food, using it as a marketing strategy to attract customers is not justified if the food is not up to the mark. In particular, I found the pork item to be more like chicken manchurian, and it had a stale taste. I won't be visiting the restaurant again, and it's not surprising that the place always seems empty. This review is based on my honest and...
