As salaamu alaykum (Peace be upon you) friends and family,
School friends day out, yayyyy!
A group of 6 school friends decided to meet for lunch today. 5 of us are together from kindergarten days right until the 10th standard. Fantastic, right? One dear friend who was as eager to meet as I am passed away 4 years back. May she R I P, amen!
We have been messaging each other but none of us made an attempt to meet since so long. I sent a sentimental message 3 days back quoting our friend who passed away and told them that one day all of us will just be a bane in the pages of history books. Another friend understood my message and so we met today for lunch at this restaurant.
The restaurant is located in one of the most busy lanes of SoBo. So be careful to reach this place with your driver who will drop you outside and wait for you somewhere nearby to pick you back. Or Uber is my best option to reach there.
The restaurant serves Mughlai food as well as Chinese cuisine, vegetarian and non vegetarian both. The ambiance is good though a little jazzy for me. But comfortable. The waiters were attentive and friendly. Suggestions from them was good though initially I thought he was suggesting the most expensive items from their menu. But his suggestion was very delicious. The waiters were attentive and careful to change our plates after we had had our starters.
We ordered Tanduri Chicken Platter, which had 6 pieces each of 6 different types of tanduri chicken marinated in different spices and colour. Good and tasty. Pleasing to the eyes.
That done, for the main course, we ordered Murgh Musallam which is again BBQ Chicken Boneless Tikka pieces and then cooked in a tomato cashews mix gravy. Honestly, very tasty.
The portions are good enough and reasonably priced. After eating to our stomach’s and heart’s content, 4 pieces of chicken with the gravy was eyeing and begging us to eat them too. Hahaha!
It is said that the food first should satiate your eyes. ONLY THEN, your stomach will be satiated. And so it was here, alhamdulillah (all gratitude to the Lord above).
We ordered 6 butter garlic naans to go with our Murgh Musallam, but we 6 girl friends were able consume only 3 n 1/2 of these naans. So 2 of our friends took parcels of the Musallam gravy and a piece of garlic butter naan.
We all had so much to eat and the food was complementing our happiness. We had Sprite to digest our food. And BURP!
We all parted on a happy note and a promise to meet more often. We were that happy.
Please do enjoy...
Read moreWe visited Grills and Rice Restaurant in Nagpada, Mumbai on June 21st, 2025, as a group of 10 people. Unfortunately, our overall experience was extremely disappointing and below expectations.
Despite making it clear in advance that we were a group of 10, we were made to wait over 45 minutes for a table. The seating arrangement provided was inadequate, accommodating only about six people comfortably. The ambiance was very poor, with a lack of proper cleanliness and a highly uncomfortable environment. Additionally, there was no washroom or wash basin facility available on the first-floor dining area, which caused further inconvenience.
The service was extremely slow and disorganized. We had to wait more than 30 minutes for the food to be served at our table. When the food finally arrived, it was not up to the mark—neither in taste nor in value, being significantly overpriced for the quality offered.
Due to the excessive wait time and lack of basic facilities, my wife, who is diabetic, suffered from low blood sugar and dehydration. She later experienced hyperacidity and ended up vomiting outside the restaurant. The entire experience was distressing for our family.
What made matters worse was the rude and unprofessional behavior of the reservation staff stationed outside the restaurant. When we inquired about the seating delay, they responded aggressively and even raised their voices. The security guard also behaved inappropriately, refusing to allow me back inside when I stepped out briefly to buy medicine for my wife.
Furthermore, the restaurant lacks any parking facility, which adds to the inconvenience for guests arriving by car.
In conclusion, our visit to Grills and Rice was extremely unpleasant on all fronts—food, service, environment, and staff behavior. This restaurant does not merit even a half-star rating and I would strongly discourage anyone...
