A sudden business travel had me scrambling out out #nammabengaluru to #amchimumbai & as a reason I couldnāt observe the fast(roza).
While I had the option of a lavish lunch/dinner buffet at the star (āļø āļø āļø āļø)rated hotel, I preferred to take a stroll around Andheri-Kurla Road for a Vada Paav. Surprisingly, the amount of options for these local delicacies made me fall in love with Mumbai city once again.
I almost fell for the Vada Paav but just to my luck the late noon time around Chakala, JB Nagar, I happened to sight this little Sea Food restaurant by the name āKonkan Chillyā.
I didnāt know what to expect but the cozy setup of just 10-12 seater space had to surprise me.
I simply wanted something local yet authentic & not too heavy on the pocket for a lonely diner so placed the order for a Surmi Thali.
It took a good 20 minutes for the thali to arrive and when it did I can tell by the look of it that it was a visual treat.
3 piping hot Rotis, surmi curry containing 1 decent sized Surmi, steam rice, 1 decent sized deep Masala fried piece of Surmi & to complete the wholesome experience, the Cocum bowl with goodness of extra Surmi curry, Onion-Lime salad. The green mint chutney & achaar only exemplified the homely feel and comfort.
Quickly dug in only to feel elevated on flavours & its authenticity. Humbled by the simplicity as well!
Anyways, long story short, itās highly recommended & Iām going back here when Iām around.
Behind the cash counter is Mr Sanjay who hails from Mangalore but well settled in Mumbai. Some insta R&D gave hints about a small screen celebrity also having to play her part to run this cozy setup. Nevertheless, their staff is friendly & the place is very hygienic.
In short, āKonkan Chillyā is Chhotaa Bomb š£, Badaa Dhamaaka!
PS : if anyone has been here already, please share your suggestions as Iād like to experience Konkan Chilly again.

I recently tried the Mutton Thali at Konkan Chilly, and unfortunately, it was quite underwhelming. The mutton was simply boiled and added to the curry without any depth of flavor or seasoning. The solkadi was extremely disappointingācompletely tasteless and far from the authentic solkadi taste.
The dishes lacked the rich flavors and distinctive essence of Konkani cuisine. Just adding kokum to the curries doesnāt make it Konkaniāit takes much more than that to create the authentic taste.
For INR 380, the portion was limited, with just 3 pieces of mutton and an extra bowl of curry. Overall, the meal didnāt live up to expectations in terms of taste or value. Not something Iād recommend for anyone looking for authentic...
