Good afternoon folks. We, a group of 6 girl friends had an opportunity to have lunch here. After thinking and rethinking where to meet for a beautiful time with friends and good food and to be amidst nature and rains. What better place to be than One8 Commune by The Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma.
The restaurant is built inside Late Kishore Kumar’s huge bungalow in Juhu, a posh area of Mumbai. Many celebrities reside here and adorn this area.
The ambiance of this restaurant is BEAUTIFUL to say the least. You will feel yourself amidst nature which is so cool. Nature is always at peace. We were seated in an open to nature dining section covered with a glass ceiling. We were enjoying in here. Until the rains started and there was a little thunderstorm with plant pots tumbling over. A couple of friends and other guests did get scared thinking what if the glass ceiling crashed and landed over them. It took me some time to convince them that the owners must have definitely given it a thought when they had glass ceilings. It must be toughened and sandwiched too to avoid such unwanted scenes. But they were I’ll at ease and finally we moved into an inner covered dining area. Not so good as compared to the open to sky area.
The food selection was my honour and pleasure. But all was not upto the mark. The avocado flatbread was cold. It should have been a little warm if not hot and it was very bland. No spices and no seasonings absolutely. We Indians want masala in every food we eat. Haha.
The Gambas or Prawns Caliente was good. Crab Thermidor was GOOD. Chicken Roast was very dry. I could manage to just taste it. I was told by my friends that the potato cubes in there were more delicious.
Singapore Chicken Laksa was very normal, nothing to shout about. The Greek Chicken, unfortunately I couldn’t click it’s picture because we were starving and amidst all the chaos of the thunderstorm, we just dived into it. This was served with some hummus and pickled vegetables.
We were served complimentary desserts as the friends were little upset about the shuffling from one table to another and then to another. Mr. Sachin ensured we were happy by the time we left after the lunch. God bless him for that gesture.
I’ve read a comment by someone saying Anushka is PETA affiliated, then why is non vegetarian food served here? I’d like to remind this critic that she is NOT forcing you to eat non vegetarian food. It’s purely one’s choice. There are many people in mumbai who eat non vegetarian food and one may feel comfortable to cater to that section of the society too. Chill. Period.
All in all, a good pleasant experience of dining in here. The food was shared amongst us 6 friends and hence the cheque was also shared between us. Which worked out just Rs.1,500/- per person including all the various taxes. Good enough.
I would definitely visit this place once...
Read moreWe decided to take our couple friend from the US for a dinner thanks to the strong word of mouth in the city. For table booking they had 2 slots 7:30 pm and 10pm. We chose the latter. The reception area and the staff at the reception were not impressive at all. We were made to stand there for approximately 15 minutes on the reason that table is getting ready. My guests from the US were senior citizens and jet lagged. But they did not offer any chairs to sit. On the contrary, standing there we were obstruction to other guests passing by. There was hoard of bouncer-type menacing-looking security and reception staff who were straring at us as if Virat Kohli was present inside. Finally, we got a table at the rear-end of the restaurant which was a covered courtyard. There were 5 of us and table given was a sofa on one side and one chair and 2 dressing table type puffees. Space was quite cramped and the quality of furniture was not matching the reputation and scale of the restaurant. The decor is intended to be earthly but it looked tacky with cheap materials and lack of aesthetics. Decor gets 2/10. Surprisingly all the staff @ reception and the waiters were males. Our waiter had no grooming. He had scant time for us. He would take orders in a rush as if he had no time. He just brought the dishes and left them on the table and did not have the courtesy to serve to the guests. Cocktails were disappointing. They were very small in quantity and tasted hopeless. Cocktails get 3/10. We ordered several dishes from starters and small plates like dimsums, prawns, paneer, tacos. They were not great. Food got cold by the time it reached our table. Food gets (2/10) Apparently, it was waiting for long in the kitchen to be picked up and served. That’s why it lost its appeal even though if there was any good in it. The waiter ( name withheld at his request as he pleaded for forgiveness) was inattentive and forgetful. He did not bring water for more than 10 minutes after asking . He forget to give napkins with fresh plates. By the way they give the same paper napkins like in an Udipi restaurant. Seems like the brilliant idea of the promoters to save on cost of cloth napkins washing and maintenance. It is interesting to note that there was no female staff due to which it lacked elegance as male staff looked more like bouncers. I gauge there is problem with hierarchy of top level management. This usually happens with film stars organizations as there are lot of chamchas abound and deserving people get sidelined. In short, every thing about this place is disgusting. Btw our favorite food joints are Yautcha and Mainland China where we visit once every month. My advice : don’t visit One8 Commune even once as you would be wasting your...
Read moreVisited the much hyped one8 commune and absolutely loved the ambiance of the place. The music, the vibe and everything place was on point. The food was definitely well presented and definitely above the more than avg level. What was disappointing was the service. We pre booked swiggy dining and were received and given the table too wrt the procedure but then came the part where we were billing the cheque at the discounted amount and due to some glitch it wasn't happening and the staff was not understanding or helpful at all and forced us to pay the whole sum and weren't compromising which was a little disappointing as they clearly knew we were booked thru the dining option. And that was not it. A restaurant that is open till 1.30 am according to their google and dining platform times actually forced us to cut a plated dessert which was meant to be cut at 12 midnight for my wife's birthday with clear prior instructions cleared that we come for a birthday dinner and would want to cut the cake at 12 which they agreed to. But then once we sat they bought it at 11.30 and forced us to cut it thru excuses that this has to be cut now. It will go bad. We are closing. Chefs will leave. And all the rest clearly ignoring the unsatisfied and disappointing expressions on our face. We had to keep shouting to a call a staff members to serve all the time or anything we needed. Cause they weren't around and when we moved once to search the staff they were already enjoying sitting on the table joking around on the other side of the restaurant while tables were still there. Experiencing fine dinning and aesthetic places is a hobby for my wife and myself and having visited 6 other places on that day itself. We saved one8 commune for the last, assuming it to he the best and we were not happy. And to say we came here all the way from a different town keeping it as a place to visit in priority. I dont think this review would even matter but hopefully someone important reads it and makes it a better Experience for others. From a third generation...
