Poco Loco Tapas & Bar ,Khar — Restaurant in Mumbai

Poco loco means "not so crazy". Here the virtual chef is Dr.Loco, and this is his lab where he experiments with food and dishes. I must admit the experiments are truly amazing. This is a fairly new entrant in the casual dining section of restaurants. The entrance and ambiance are quite live. The walls and t-shirts of the servers are embedded with amazing quotes, the one I liked most goes like - "According to chemistry, alcohol is a Solution" and some others like - Said Albert WINEstein - Drink a few glasses and become a genius.

Drinks/Beverages

We had a few mocktails and I will talk about a couple here. The first amongst the lot is PINA COCO - This is basically an experiment with Pinacolada - it contains Pineapple juice, Vanilla ice-cream, Coconut water and coconut cream. Coconut cream has the dominant taste here. It was served in Hurricane glass with a solid white appearance and is it is thick, also garnished with a piece of pineapple on the glass.

Another one that we liked is called SENORITA - This was more of a refreshing one consisting of Orange, Cranberry, Grenadine and fresh Cream. This was red due to the presence of Grenadine and thick enough. This mocktail was served in a Martini glass and garnished with a cherry.

Food

SPINACH CROQUETAS was our first selection out of some finely curated food dishes presented in the menu. They look like regular cheese balls or Jalapeno poppers but what is inside makes it so special. It is a combination of spinach leaves and bechamel sauce which is white in color which is very creamy. The croquettes were soft and delicious.

Another amazing dish worth discussing is COTTAGE CHEESE CHIMCHURRI - Cottage cheese in the form of tikkas were made in a chimchurri style which involves cooking with the following ingredients - parsley, Oregano, garlic and Chilli. Here, they have their homemade chimchurri mayo sauce to add to the already delectable appetizer. Make sure to have the salad served along which is equally tasty as the paneer, if not more. Prawns lover should not miss GAMBAS AL AJILLO at all. These are sizeable pieces of Prawns in sizzling olive oil with cayenne chilli.

Desserts

OMG! The desserts were stunningly experimented with, especially CHOCOLATE CHILLI PEPPER TART. This is a spicy and sweet dessert at the same time due to the presence of Chocolate, Chilly, Chilly powder and Pepper essence. A chocolate tart filled with gooey chocolate, and further filled with chocolate sauce and topped with chocolate cream and cut chillies. This is served on a black edgeless dish with chillies and chilli powder scattered all over.

The second one was again a unique one. I feel desserts being the last course of the meal should be the best one because it can leave a great last impression. And, I feel they know this. TRES LECHES is a traditional Mexican three milk cake. This is one of the best introductions done at this restaurant, as it specializes in Mexican cuisine. This dessert is typically made up on three types of milk - Condensed, evaporated & heavy cream (sometimes whole milk is also used). This is served in a metallic container at Poco Loco. It is a heaven for the milk dessert lovers. It is garnished with dry fruit flakes.

Welcome to the lab..!

Yes, absolutely this place resembles to the chemistry lab and really impressed me with the interiors. If you are looking for Spanish or Mexican food then this place must be first option on the list. Place is absolutely fun and definitely suited for a casual meet ups.!

Talking more about Ambience, place is easy to spot and located very near to Khar railway Station. You will get the feel of lab as soon as you enter the place. All those lights covered in a flask, lights arranged in a molecular structure fashion and a wall with periodic table representing various drinks invented and tested by Dr. Poco.! Seating arrangement is absolutely comfortable. Overall I would say a perfect ambience and perfectly done interiors as per the theme..!

Staff and service, was really delighted with the warm welcome by Mr. Vaibhav, who is also a bar supervisor which I came to know when he shaked some amazing drinks for us..! Staff at this place is polite, welcoming and well trained and service is upto the mark. I would definitely like to say cheers to Mr. Vaibhav for that amazing treatment..!

Food and Beverages, this place offers a menu that belongs to mexico and Spain. authentic preparations and a long list to choose from.! I just loved the way drink menu is designed using periodic table elements.! Very innovative and impressive.! We could try few delicious dishes and refreshing drinks as listed:

Dulce y sal - tangy and refreshing drink with lots of fruity syrups, juices and black salt. I really liked the taste of drink. I actually liked it so much that I finished it in few sips..!

Pina coco - refreshing unspiked pinacolada, preapred with absolute perfection of ingredient quantity.! Superb and smooth it was.

Mushroom Croquetas - super soft and was so perfectly cooked, those mushroom bombs were melting in mouth. Presentation was fabulous and taste was extremely delicious.

Pollo loco harissa - perfectly cooked chicken tossed in harissa sauce, considerably spicy as it should be and perfect in taste.

Cottage cheese chimichurri - this special Argentinian sauce marinated Paneer chunks, baked to perfection and topped with mint mayo dip and some edible flowers. Presentation was fabulous and taste was amazing.

Enchiladas (chicken) - all the Mexican food fans out there, don't you miss this one.! Chicken stuffing was so delicious and there were so many exotic veggies too.! Salsa around the was perfect and really enhanced the overall texture and taste of the dish..!

Paella Valenciana - authentic Spanish rice preparation that one should definitely order when at this place. I really liked the way it was served. Also, it was being preapred in an authentic way and taste was really delightful. It is a medium spicy preparation, with special rice and saffron that are imported from country of origin of this dish.! I am definitely visiting this place again very soon for this dish.

Baked cheese Cake - perfect thing to compete the dinner. Cheese cake was good but I really liked the berry topped on it. Also presentation was mesmerizing.!

Happened to visit this place on Sunday , as we wanted try out a new place . Khar area may have a bunch of restaurants, but this one was totally different and amazing . Spend your time here with lip smacking dishes and their good collection of drinks . This place really met the expectation level .

“POCO LOCO “ is a newly opened place which serves some mouthwatering dishes along with luscious cocktails. Located at khar, so this place has some of the classic Spanish and Mexican dishes to try out . this place has been added to my bucket list to have Spanish dishes .

The Ambience is Classy , spacious place with comfortable seating arrangement. One can simply enjoy this place by leaving the stress behind . Service was excellent, as the server knew about the dishes very well and was able to clarify any small doubts.

COCKTAILS

1)BRAN THE BROKEN - Started with this amazing cocktail , influenced by game of thrones series . Knight kings blue eyes with the white walker edition of Johnny Walker . Whiskey blended well with blue curacao, mixed with egg white and vanilla syrup . Tasted well , the presentation was up to the mark . A powered cocktail to try out .

2)PSYCHOTIC TECHNIC - dark rum blended with homemade kerala’s coconut cream . It also had a combination of lime juice , had a hint of sugar syrup. Tasted well , the combination went well.

STARTERS

1)HONEY SRIRACHA CHICKEN - Chicken pieces served with sriracha sauce , tasted delicious. the pieces were soft and tender , topped with mayonnaise sauce , Quantity was sufficient .

2)ROLLO DE AGUACATE - This was something I’ve never tried before . Avocado and chicken combination is something interesting to try out . It consists of avocado roll with chicken Pieces , the combination really went well . Tasted scrumptious, the presentation was excellent. If you’re a non vegetarian , then you wouldn’t regret after ordering this .

MAIN COURSE

1)CHICKEN POCKETS - Grilled chicken with smashed potatoes along with grilled veggies . Chicken was grilled to perfection , nice juicy and tender pieces were served with smashed potatoes . Tasted delicious , surely worth to try out this Authentic Spanish dish .

2)PERI PERI CHICKEN BURGER - It consists of grilled chicken patty with their in-house peri peri sauce , stuffed with other veggies . Tasted well , as the patty was perfect . In-house Peri peri sauce tasted well , peri peri burger served with caramelised onion and fries . the quantity was sufficient, it was well presented .

DESSERT

1)CHOCOLATE CHILLI PEPPER TART - One of the unique and best dessert I’ve had recently . This Mexican dessert consists of dark chocolate with bird eye chilli jam (mixed with caramel ) . Tasted amazing , had a hint of red chilli powder . the presentation was excellent. Definitely worth to try out this Mexican dessert .

On the whole had Superlative experience at this place . All the sustenances that I attempted were extremely scrumptious, service was on point . If you’re looking for any new place to explore , I would definitely recommend this place. Had an lovely evening, would definitely be back here .
