Punjab Sweet House on Dr Ambekar Rd at Pali Naka, is an iconic Bandra establishment. Ive been going there since the '80's.
Its USP was/is its justly famous Punjabi Samosa which I believe is its most fast selling snack item. However, sometimes I've noticed that the quality is not that good as earlier, but then again at a later date, the quality is back to being very good. Chef's vagaries I expect !! The peas samosas are also not bad. Patta samosa mediocre.
Nowadays, PSH makes just about every typical snack food including fairly good Gujarati Dhokla, Khandwi, as well as an array of mouthwatering Chaats, Indian sweets, breads, cakes and assorted other food items.
PSH Chhole Bhature is the best and tastiest in Mumbai. Even better than what you get in Sion Koliwada.
My personal favourite at PSH of late is the Pyaaz Kachori (Onion Kachori). I say that this Pyaaz Kachori is much tastier than what I tasted at the famous Jaipur kachori houses. Of course its also very very oily, you can see this when you take it home and reheat in your oven, how much oil drips out, if you mop that with a tissue the paper is immediately saturated. But the taste ... OMG, its really really good.
Today I also bought some terribly disappointing Veg Puffs (also called Veg Pattice). I had tried these earlier but didnt care for them as the filling was very measly compared to the puff pastry .. but earlier at least the filling was tasty. Today's filling was of all things ewww ... cabbage ... can you believe it :-((( As it is you dont get fully stuffed veg puffs in Mumbai, but even so the filling is usually a tasty mix of beans, carrots and onion masala or some such combo. But cabbage ????? .... At least be honest to call it a Jain Puff.
Prices have gone up and the overall cost is more than at other less upmarket places. But cleanliness is maintained more than some of those lower...

The owners say they will improve - tough luck for us customers...the owners don't care at all as the foot fall is still too high. Unless the biz is severely affected, the owners will never improve nor care to improve. I give the owners a 0 over 5 rating. I give the local management 2/5 rating

Read moreLashkara is the upstairs dining room of the Punjab Sweet House in Bandra. The Special Punjabi Thali came with Paneer Tikka (a cube of soft cheese marinated in yogurt and spices) and a Hara Bhara Kabab (a soft, round kebab made of potatoes and spinach), along with a spicy green chutney on the side. The main dishes included paneer makhani (paneer cubes in tomato gravy); a curry of paneer, green peas, and green beans; dal makhani; and boondi raita. All of these dishes went perfectly with the veg pulao (yellow rice mixed with paneer and vegetables) and flaky lachha parathas on the side, along with papad, Indian pickle, and a salad of cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, green chilies, and lime. For dessert, there was rasmalai, a soft, bouncy cottage cheese ball soaked in a yellow, cardamon-scented milk; as well as gulab jamun. On the side came a glass of thick, sweet buttermilk, and all of the perfectly spiced, beautifully-plated components of this thali made for a sumptuous North...
