I do not usually write reviews, especially for banks but this had to be done. I have been banking with this branch for about 4 years now, and before opening, I was warned by expats and locals that this was the worse (I had mentioned this to the branch manager whose response was âbut we are the best rated in SE Asia). But I went ahead anyway as I am a very happy HSBC UK customer. HSBC India and that branch in particular has been a complete nightmare. Very laid back atmosphere where nobody takes ownership of anything. From the start, being a global bank they could not understand fully my status as OCI and kept offering products I was not interested in and then no reply. My account was blocked a month before my visa expired again with no proper notice (they will send you all sorts of campaigns on your phone though). Last year I decided to invest in a property but I had opened a new account anyway with another bank (flawless by the way). When I told my relationship manager she offered me to go through them instead which I refused (but they did it anyway0 She wanted to try and get me a better rate anyway and then found out that they could not go ahead because of no branch in the location I wanted to invest. Later on I applied for a personal loan of which they approved only 30% of the initial amount after they had confidently said the full amount will be approved so I counted on it. After many weeks of back and forths, and calls and meetings it was still being processed with again many promised of âtomorrowâ or âin 2 hoursâ from the deputy manager to the relationship manager (the branch manager did not even bother to call me back as he was driving when I called). I had a meeting with the credit team who could not understand the concept of dual nationality (a bank that prides itself on being âglobalâ!) he questioned me like an immigration officer. They even insisted on a UK credit report (which I have always had in the excellent range). In the end I had to arrange my own personal funds from the UK else I was going to lose my transaction. Trulu still traumatised by this whoel experince and treatment. My new relationship manager never replies (most of them never did anyway). Few weeks ago the fraud team notice a transaction and cancelled my card. They asked me to go ask for a replacement at the bank (a card that I hardly every use), because of course this is not possible through the app. I went 3 times already, nobody knows where the card is (actually I think it was never re-ordered by the staff). Last time I went I asked the staff if I would have to waste time and drop by the branch and again and she was confident that it was all sorted. Almost 4 weeks later now I am still waiting and I am so livid that I will have to go again to that branch for a simple thing as a CC replacement. No ownership, blasĂ© all the time enjoying morning teas and coffees and no bother for peopleâs time! Now they will probably reply with a lame standard answer to take it...
Read moreI have an NRE account at this place. While it is seldom necessary to contact this branch, unfortunately sometimes it does become necessary. It is like going to the dentist - a very very painful experience. To someone looking from the outside, it does appear that they care about their non resident customers. But to someone experiencing it, their customer service is terribly terribly lacking. For example, every so often i get an email informing me that my relationship manager is Mr. X or Mr.Y. But when you try to contect this so called "relationship manager" you get nowhere - emails are unanswered, messages go unacknowledged. It is even a difficult process to find an email to ladge a complaint. I had to resort to calling a family member to go to the branch where I have my account. Turns out my relationship manager is located in another province. This is what I call non existent customer service. If I had a choice I would pull all my money from this miserable bank and let others deal with this nonsense. I've had enough. Please, please do not bank with HSBC India all all they care about is that you leave your money with them. And then chase your own tail trying to get it back. Update : I received a response to my review from Team HSBC. What I had failed to mention in my review was that this so called relationship manager already has my details (email add as well as my phone number) AND he has been contacted by my family member in India and asked as to why he is not responding to my requests. 2 weeks after this he did send me a message saying that he could not validate my details and that is why he did not respond earlier. This is utter nonsense as my first attempt to get in touch was via the email that he himself sent me stating that he was my new "relationship manager". Anyway, after that one message from him, he has again maintained radio silence. I need the phone number of a manager so I can tell him/her what I think of their customer service. If he gave that level of service here, he would be out of a...
Read moreIf youâre looking for a bank that promises the world and delivers error codes, look no further â HSBC India is here to disappoint you in ways you didnât think were possible.
Letâs start with the legendary HSBC mobile app. Itâs not just bad â itâs performance art. Want to transfer your own money within your own limits? Donât worry, itâll block you and flash âover limitâ like you tried to rob the Reserve Bank of India. Of course, the IVR system is designed to break your spirit before you ever reach a human, and when you do, their agents are either reading off scripts or guessing like theyâre on Kaun Banega Crorepati.
And donât even get me started on security. Youâd think a bank that calls itself âpremiumâ would offer robust digital protection. Nope. Just vibes and error messages. Meanwhile, your money? Frozen for no reason. Need to send tuition abroad? Too bad. Youâll be met with errors, delays, and radio silence.
Now, to really complete the experience, HSBC proudly partners with shady NBFCs like InCred and EbixCash, who are just as opaque and unaccountable. Itâs a full circle of dysfunction â your loan gets stuck, your account gets frozen, and no one takes responsibility. Premium, right?
This bank is what happens when legacy branding meets zero innovation and absolute apathy. Even SBI, with all its chaos, looks like Goldman Sachs compared to this. At least SBI doesnât pretend to be anything itâs not.
If youâve used American Express or even ICICIâs modern platforms, dealing with HSBC will feel like going from a Tesla to a bullock cart with...
