My review will not be liked / appreciated by die-hard Sadichha fans. But then food is a matter of individual taste & preferences and will be as different as the five fingers of the hand.
The monthly team lunch has become a sort of norm at our workplace. People come in for meeting from other states as well therefore it's a good exercise for informal bonding.
Instead of going to the same restaurant or eating the omni present South Indian cuisine, we like to explore good food joints and the responsibility of finding good restaurants is entrusted with yours truly.
This month's sojourn landed us at Sadichha as most people wanted to try sea-food. The ratio of non-vegetarian to vegetarian is 4:1.
Well, I have known Sadichha as it was a favourite joint of my ex-boss. We are a group of 16 and after a wait of 10 minutes, were ushered on the upper level of the restaurant.
Our order was for 4 vegetarian thali, 4 prawns thali, 4 pomfret thali, 2 surmai thali, 2 chicken sukka thali and 2 plates of fried bombil. Wow, so much to photograph is what I felt.
The vegetarian thali consisted of green sprouts in a semi spicy gravy (मटकी ची उसळ), potato bhaji in a gravy, dal, sol kadhi, garlic+coconut+red chili chutney, 2 rice bhakri & rice.
Honestly, it was a total disappointment from the word go. The sol kadhi was too bland and devoid of flavour. The potato bhaji was a semi thick gravy with only 2-3 pieces of potatoes. The sprouts lacked the typical Maharashtrian flavour of the usal. The dal was so-so. The only item I really liked and ate with relish was the chutney. It was nicely grounded, spicy, pungent and the flavour of garlic was of the right measure.
Though I didn't eat the non vegetarian fare, the general opinion was that the food was just ok; nothing worth raving. The curry used for the fish & prawns was just normal, not the kind of expertise one would expect from a seafood specialist.
A couple of extra bhakri, rice and the 16 thali summed up to Rs.3016 for us.
I had taken my team for lunch to Highway Gomantak, a couple of months ago and they couldn't stop raving about the food for days together. Even the vegetarian thali I had there was superb and I can vividly recall the flavour of their sukka potato bhaji...
Read moreGot to know about this place via Google as I was in BKC and wanted to eat fish, looking at the rating I thought of visiting this place. The place is quite small and gives homely feeling, looking at this i got happy thinking the food would be really nice and homemade. We ordered for a chicken thali, a pomfret thali and an surmai thali and a tisrya sukkah. Was totally disappointed when the food came, the tisrya sukkha seemed like tisrya masala and was very sweet. The surmai thali was not upto the mark, surmai was very small, I have never had such small piece of surmai in any of the fish outlet. Quantity wise I was totally disappointed, chicken thali had just 2 pieces of chicken. Sol kadhi seemed to be like water added to it, we had reached around 2:30-2:45pm and I think we were served the left over food as it was closing time. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone, specially who is...
Read moreIn Mumbai, people are often misguided into thinking Mangalorean or Goan Cuisine as Malvani.. But not here…!!
So I came here today with a friend. He ordered a Tisrya (Clams) Thali and I called for Mori (Shark) Thali. Both were excellent. The fish was fresh and the gravy was very tasty and perfectly spiced. The quantity in each thali was perfect for one adult. If at all I have to complain then I would say, I missed the small portion of Suka Jawla (dry baby shrimp) that is also served as part of the seafood thali in my town.
The service was prompt and the staff was welcoming. Hygiene is taken care of. The place is tiny and very modestly done up, so if you value the ambience as much as your food, then this isn't the place for you. Free Street Parking is available.
If you are craving for good authentic Malvani Food… Sadichha is just the...
