If you’re a seafood lover looking for authentic Mangalorean-style delicacies in Mumbai, Sion Lunch Home is the place to be. Located just a five-minute walk from Sion railway station, this eatery has been my go-to spot for the past two years, and I can confidently say it never disappoints.
Ambience & Seating
The place is clean and well-maintained, but it doesn’t have a very large seating capacity. Whether you opt for the AC or non-AC section, expect a waiting time—sometimes as long as 40 minutes to an hour. Due to its immense popularity, the restaurant does not accept reservations, so it’s always bustling with seafood enthusiasts.
Food & Specialties
The main reason for the crowd? The exceptional seafood, prepared in true Mangalorean style. I highly recommend trying their fish thalis and fish fries, which are consistently fresh and flavorful.
Must-Try Dishes:
Prawns Fry – Crispy, well-spiced, and utterly delicious.
Squid Fry – Perfectly cooked and packed with coastal flavors.
Bombil Fry – A Mumbai favorite that’s crispy on the outside, soft inside.
Pomfret Thali – A full-fledged meal featuring succulent pomfret fish.
Surmai Thali – A classic favorite for those who love kingfish.
Neer Dosa – Light, fluffy and an excellent companion to their flavorful gravies.
Mutton Sukka – My personal favorite; the spice blend is simply spot-on.
Fish Platters: A Family Favorite
If you’re visiting with family, the fish platters are a must-try. They offer a great variety and are perfect for sharing, ensuring you get to taste a bit of everything.
Final Verdict
Despite the long waiting time, the experience at Sion Lunch Home is always worth it. The food quality, authentic preparation, and reasonable prices make it one of the best places in Mumbai for seafood lovers. If you enjoy coastal cuisine, this spot should be at the top...
Read moreHeard about this restaurant much on social media pages for a long time…Though never managed it to be here personally. One fine day when I had to plan my dinner out as parents were not at home. That was the moment I gave a visit to this place all alone. A 2 mins walk from Sion station and there you are at Sion Lunch Home. Initial impressions were surprising after seeing it heavily crowded during week days. One good reason why this place is so prominent for its seafood delicacies. It has two sections for seating AC & NON – AC. As I was craving for Fish badly didn’t bothered where I’ll get to sit. After a mins of waiting got my table. Thankfully no one else sat opposite to me. So it was time to have hands on their Fish Thali. I went for the Pomfret Thali which was tawa fried. There are other options too…Masala/fry, Chilly Indian, Puli Munchi….
Food:
1 Pomfret Thali (tawa fried) – For a moment I didn’t even felt to start munching as it looked so tempting only just by seeing it. Though couldn’t wait any longer and started off by squeezing the lemon over the pomfret. My My it was a heavenly feeling experiencing the taste of pomfret. Perfectly cooked and with the right amount of spices made it more delectable. It was served with Bhakri, Sol Kadhi, Rassa, Veg gravy and rice. A total value for money.
Ambience – As mentioned above in the summary it is suitable for family gatherings, special occasions and if you are alone like I was step ahead it will leave your soul satisfied. Seating is comfortable and the interiors are kept plain and simple.
Service – Staff was quick and fast with the service.

Read moreYou know that feeling, when the food is so good that we forget our civilised existence? We experienced that. Eating chicken at this place almost feels criminal now that we've had the seafood. Sion Lunch Home felt like paid ghar-ka-khaana. It sits perfectly in a niche near the station and looks like any other low-budget hotel. The Paneer Makhanwala was spicy and buttery. It tasted heavenly when we laced it with lemon. Chunks of soft paneer were immersed in the thick, sweet and spicy tomato gravy. The chicken tasted more like chicken. We don’t know how they did it, but yes it did. The coating was perfectly dark brown and crunchy. The inside was tender and perfectly cooked. There were four pieces in a Half Plate Chicken Lollipop. Value for Money? Lol. The bill was so less, it made us feel sinful. So catch this magic quickly. We have recommended this place to so many people, we've lost count. Crab - The crab was in a thick, dark and spicy gravy. They have it in various forms, choose any. It was absolutely delicious; although we have a slight recollection of having a better crab in Pune. We also ordered two thalis of Bangda and Prawns. The prawn curry was also light brown and konkani in taste. The thali had solkadhi which was well, okay-ish. The rice was soft and had a home-cooked feel to it.The Bangda was crispy and again very tasty. This place will give you memories. They feed you to your heart’s content with their generosity. Go there now!!
