The Tanjore Tiffin Room - Chettinad (Tamil Nadu) all the way. Spicy/Tangy/Savoury/Sweet this has all the flavours in the dishes which they have in the menu. Apart from The Salad (Went for a toss) all the other dishes were good. This place is located level 2 at Union Park. Subtle interiors, not very heavy and less of southern touch. Feels homely.

Coming to what we tried (Tasting portions)

Mini Bonda was a good choice (Tamil nadu take) on the famous Maharashtrian Batata wada. Bit of curry pata flavour. Golden fried served with Coconut chutney. Price 275/+

Mini Gun-Powder Idli, have to ask for this if one visits a South Indian restaurant. Could have been fluffy and lighter, however Malgapodi and ghee balanced it well. Bit of sesame on top with curry pata flavour. Served with Mint chutney.

Pepper Chicken - Diced or call it Bite sized chicken pieces with black pepper marination. Tossed with lime. A bit of Ginger and Garlic hit and obviously Curry leaves. Taste - good. Not over.

Prawn Sundal - Finely chopped prawns tossed well with onions (sweetness) garlic and coconut. Guess a bit of Raw Mango gave the tangy taste to it. Flavours were subtle. A must if you are a prawn lover.

Nethili Fry - Known as Anchovy Big (known as Nethili in Tamil) these are basically small fish. One can make it with gravy or Fry the same and make it a Bar bite. Here the chef has fried it with homemade spices (Crunchy) with good texture. A bit Pungent in taste. Overall a good Bar Nibble.

Padmini's Mutton Cutlet (Home Recipe) Simple minced meat with balanced spices. Home-style cooking. Let the dish do the talking. Good.

Mains - After a spoon tasting of about 12 Gravy dishes and some rice (yes, they send you a thali which has tasting portions of all the gravy's) one needs to select it. Also the steward/captain in charge would recommend you what goes well with the one you like. Since i had made up my mind stuck to the Tangy side.

Moru Kulambu - Its Kadi basically but made tamilian version. Liked the texture and a bit of the tangy taste. This goes well with the steamed rice.

Meenakshi's (Home recipe) Vatha Kulambu - this is a TamilBram speciality. Very Tangy and a bit spicy with Tamarind. This is again a must have dish. Goes well with rice or Appam.

My Partner had a prawn dish (can't recollect the gravy) had a subtle coconut touch to it. Madewell. Balance was good so was the texture.

To end it was MYSORE PAK. Yum. Rich with ghee. Try this. Bet you can't stop having one.

Overall - Something different. Being Monday the place was packed. Yes they also serve alcohol. Do try their Garden Galata (Gin and Tonic) with a bit of passion fruit. Has freshness. Rose petal s cucumber and orange. Pondicherry Punch was good. Madewell. Basically Orange Basil Mojito.

Would surely be back for another round of Chettinad Cuisine - till...

Wow, I can't say enough good things about Thanjore Tiffin Room! This place is an absolute gem in Mumbai. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to the vibrant streets of South India. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with traditional decor and soothing music that sets the perfect mood for a delightful meal.

Now, let's talk about the food. Oh my goodness, it's a culinary paradise! Thanjore Tiffin Room offers an extensive menu of authentic South Indian delicacies that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy. Whether you're craving crispy dosas, fluffy idlis, or aromatic biryanis, this place has it all. The flavors are rich, the spices are perfectly balanced, and every dish is made with love and care.

One of my personal favorites is their masala dosa. It's simply out of this world! The dosa is perfectly crispy on the outside, while the filling of spiced potatoes is incredibly flavorful. And don't get me started on their chutneys and sambar. They are the perfect accompaniments, adding an extra burst of flavor to every bite.

The service at Thanjore Tiffin Room is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist you. They take the time to explain the menu, make recommendations, and ensure that you have a memorable dining experience. The wait times are reasonable, considering the popularity of the place, and the staff manages to maintain a high level of efficiency even during peak hours.

The prices at Thanjore Tiffin Room are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and quantity of the food. You get generous portions that are sure to satisfy your hunger and leave you feeling satisfied. It's a great value for money.

As soon as you enter Tanjore Tiffin Room, Khar, a breezy freshness hits you and you feel as if you are in a garden cafe, even though you are in an indoor first floor seating in Union Park, Khar. The tropical 🌴 mood further settles in with the very mildly sweet and spicy Virgin Guava Mary Mocktail and Virgin Ginger Lemon Honey Mocktail 🍸with a wonderfully strong flavour of ginger 👌🏼We asked for Arbi Ghee Roast as our first appetizer and was quite happy with the aroma of ghee in it. Next appetizer was a combination of yam and jackfruit cutlets served with a tangy chutney ...both were delicious. Once you are done with your drinks and appetizers, they bring you an elaborate thali laid out with samples of all their curries, rice varieties etc. While your server very patiently explains each curry and the combinations it can be served with, you may keep sampling the same. Loved the concept 👍🏼Based on this tasting, for the mains we decided on our all time favourite Vegetable Stew with Appam and the enticing Sivagamis Jackfruit Curry with Idiappam. Both the curries were delicious though we found the stew too sweet for our taste buds. The appam was perfectly shaped and the idiappams were liberally sprinkled with grated fresh coconut 🥥. Unfortunately they didn’t have any variety in desserts, only the Mysore Pak and Payyasam. Hence, we ordered the vermicelli Payyasam and found it a perfect balance of sweetness and flavour😋.Our Server Soso painstakingly took us through our lunch and we found all the staff very courteous. Tanjore Tiffin Room, Khar seems to be a very popular venue for Sunday lunch so if you are looking for some peace and quiet then try going on weekdays 😅 to soak in the ambiance over a refreshing drink ! Enjoy eating and follow us on Insta : @foodieklix for more reviews:)
