Uncle's Kitchen (Since 1987) — Restaurant in Mumbai

Had a lot of childhood memories of this place. Hence when I visited Mumbai I listed it on my todo list.

The total experience has deteriorated over years

I would give 1 stars for food and Zero for their service.

You start getting the negative vibes starting from the restaurant mini gate which is closed at all time and only opened once you have answered some questions from the gate keeper. The question for me was "Are you alone or expecting anyone?".

I saw that the AC zone signage was on the left side and proceeded towards the stairs. Before the stairs the stairs keeper stopped me and asked if I was alone. I didn't understand the logic and asked him if singles are not allowed to this restaurant. I felt I was getting in to a pub as stag entry. The stairs keeper then said no just checking, you can sit on the single table up if available.

Once I reached up a not so happy old gentleman directly diverted me in a corner on a single table of his choice. The restaurant was 60% empty and time was around 9pm. Not sure why they were categorizing me when tables were empty.

The order taker was also annoying and behaving weird.

I took a chicken noodles to eat there and chicken noodles and chicken lollipop as take away (this details is so that the management and the restraurant team recognizes my visit and take necessary actions).

Post I had my food anyone would usually expect to get the bill and machine to the table, so that you pay and move. However here you are asked to go to the counter and pay. And your parcel has to be picked up from the gate.

Parcel was not ready and I had to wait till they confirmed. Few minutes later they confirmed the parcel is ready and I went down to collect. Here I saw the mini gate again closed and it was opened for me to move out.

Out of curiosity I asked the gate keeper why they have kept the mini gate closed. They replied because the swiggy and zomato guys directly gets in. I replied however this doesn't look very inviting for the customer. They had no response.

I personally don't see Swiggy and Zomato have created this problem. This is a problem of categorizing people.

Overall I felt that there are many restaurant around which serve very good Chinese food with excellent service.

Uncle Kitchen is not a restaurant I will recommend to my friend and family and will neither go back to this restaurant.

Sad to see them not living up to the standards and not accepting change when the world around them...

One of the most iconic venues to eat Chinese food, UK is the oldest Chineese food restaurant in Mumbai serving authentic food along with family like hospitality over the years. Ronnie & Sunny the two brothers will never let you leave without a smile. It’s their daily presence and loving hospitality that brings back their patrons over and over again. Their customer service and speed of delivery can rival any Resturant or 5* brand in the country. I’m sure they will come out tops every time as they genuinely believe in outstanding customer service and satisfaction.

Most of their dishes are iconic and you will never find something like their food anywhere. Few of my personal favourites are The Chicken Lollypops, Nutty Chicken, Sesame Toast, Chicken Manchow Soup and Spinach and paneer clear soup.

Besides the quick service at the restaurant these guys are master of home deliveries, they can provide you food within minutes, it’s literally served hot on your plate by the time you hang up the phone. Don’t believe me try them out.

During covid times they have maintained high standards of hygiene and sanitation, I was literally surprised when I read about in in the newspaper and even saw it on few news channels.

No wonder celebrities of all walks of life from politicians to Bollywood actors and directors find their way to Uncles Kitchen.

Overall it’s always a fun occasion visiting Uncles Kitchen, I recently had my lil daughter celebrate her birthday at Uncles Kitchen, they were taken care of really well and they had a blast.
