Legends are of 3 types; one those who were once legends but just fade away, two who adapt & reinvent themselves as per the changing time and the third who stand tall and don’t change in any circumstances.
This is the last of VISHWA trinity that ruled the restaurant scene in Mulund West in my growing up years; Vishwa Mahal, Vishwa Samrat, & Vishwa Bharati. The first one closed business and rented its space to McDonalds, the second one reformed itself into a fine-dine, the last one however stood steadfast in face of all adversities.
Gone are the loyal crowds which used to throng here and the prices have sky rocketed, the inflation has taken its toll here as well. The restaurant now struggles to keep its nose above water.
I visited here after a long time @ around 8:30 am and was surprised / shocked to see it half empty, which used to be fully occupied.
Ordered for a Idli + Wada. Idli was soft, fluffy and hot off the stove. Wada was crispy and of a decent size. The sambar is sweet and absolutely non-spicy, typical of North Karnataka flavor, with an odd white pumpkin here & there. The chutney is thick, made of loads of coconut and ground with spicy green chillies, it was yummy.
Also ordered for a Sada Dosa, which was huge & crispy.
The South Indian fare here is dependable and can order anything off that menu.
The ambience is nothing to rave about but there was a foul stench emanating near the entrance but went away as you walk inside the restaurant.
All in all, it was a walk down memory lane for me. The taste hasn’t changed a bit in all these years especially the taste of the chutney. This by itself is no mean task to retain the taste for over 20 years, this is as far as I remember it; the restaurant wold be over 50 years old. Service is also quick and with a smile.
The only changes have been; increase in the prices of the items and the...
Read moreVishwa Bharati Veg Restaurant, standing as a symbol of culinary legacy for over 50 years, remains an emblem of timeless taste and unwavering quality. Nestled opposite Mulund station, this gem retains its authentic charm while subtly evolving, much like its shift from wooden to stainless steel seating.
Introduced to this culinary haven by my parents in childhood, revisiting after 33 years revealed an unchanged, delightful essence. The Medu Vada, a hallmark of their menu, still tantalizes the taste buds, accompanied by a delectable sambar that lingers on the palate. The Dal Rice, a simple yet flavorful dish, and the Puri Bhaji, despite a slight saltiness in the bhaji, showcased the restaurant's commitment to maintaining traditional flavors.
The journey of flavors continued with the Dahi Vada, a dish that melted hearts with its exquisite softness and mouthwatering taste, triggering a nostalgic rush reminiscent of cherished childhood memories.
The staff, with their attentive and polite service, added to the overall pleasant experience. Vishwa Bharati Veg Restaurant not only offers delicious food but also carries the warmth of nostalgia, making every visit a reminiscent journey back in time. For those seeking a taste of tradition and culinary heritage, Vishwa Bharati stands as an unwavering beacon of exceptional taste and quality.

Read moreI am visiting this restaurant since my childhood whenever I visit Mulund definitely I visit this restaurant for a good quality South Indian style breakfast there. Sambar is little bit too sweet but that’s fine their Chutney is there signature item which is prepared with only pure fresh coconut, unlike others who use roasted Bengal gram, but this restaurant uses only Pure fresh coconut but today I was completely disappointed with the food quality. I ordered Sheera and Upma mix which is my favourite dish in many typical South Indian or Udupi restaurants and I have tasted this item in Vishwa Bharti Restaurant earlier also but today I was completely disappointed. As Sheera and Upma both were completely tasteless. When I didn’t eat the dish completely and ordered something else. So after five minutes, the server came to me and asked about why I did not eat Sheera and Upma. So I informed him about the taste and quality and to the my surprise when my bill came, he did not charge for Shira Uma. I asked about that so he said You did not eat that dish so we did not charge that was a very nice and good gesture. That’s why I am...
