Fish on Dish Kothrud — Restaurant in Pune

There is a famous quote which says “Don’t judge the Book by it’s cover” but in negative way.. often book is good , here only cover looks good but whole book has issues.. I usually do not write negative reviews since there is a lot of efforts needed for any creation and food.. but this experience I cannot forget and ordeal, delay and mockery. Fish on Dish has their branch in Kothrud. Usually we prefer to visit Vernekars for fish since it has the same taste and quality even they have shifted to new location.. this time we decided to try new and we were not expecting the worst experience.. situated at Mayur colony off main Paud road.. restaurant has tasteful decor and ambience which explains the fish restaurant.. we went to have dinner, just 3 of us.. since daughter was with us we decided to go with 2 thalis, and 1 prawns Biryani.. prawns fry, masala papad were apetizers ordered.. and then the fun started, after order I checked with waiter should I repeat or please double check the order to which he said Don’t worry I have your order taken carefully.. also he said it will take 15,20 mins to cook the food which we agreed as usually fish restaurant take some time to prepare.. we waited patiently for 30 mins without knowing since we were engrossed with multiple discussions.. meanwhile new customers came in and they started receiving the orders. In between masala papad was served and solkadhi was not served and even noted.. my wife got suspicious and asked me to check where is our order. I checked 2,3 times with Waiter and I got reply saying another 5 mins.. after 45 mins we started asking more questions and now sudden rush towards cash counter and computer where central orders are managed. Then he realised that the order was not placed.. after 45 mins our order was not placed at all..they offered us free Masala papad to which we rejected.. who offers free masala papad as compensation? Now more noise and then our order came in within no time. We were like where did this come from? Again prawns Biryani was missing, waiter said you did not order Biryani. Now i lost the patience and started raising my voice and we saw even other tables also had same issues like us.. food served to us was oily.. surmai and pomfret were dipped in oil.. when asked why was not Rawa fry, waiter says you need to order that.. come on.. basic fry fish comes with rava fry.. prawns which was supposed to served as started came with main course.. they were also oily.. when all these things were happening, owner/manager was constantly checking with waiter.. he did not bothered to visit at the table and check what is the problem.. and on top of that, he simply absconded from the place before restaurant closes.. he didn’t had courtesy to apologies.. I mean who does that .. leader should always take the responsibility.. and here leader is not present.. waiter and others did not has courtesy to say Sorry.. plus no discount on the bill or whatsoever.. overall not so good experience.. we tried to do something different and end up feeling we shouldn’t try...

Today on sunday 9feb2025. I am seafood lover leaving in kothtud and after google reviews we went there. Dont judge this with booklets photos on google and its 4.8 reviews, Actually it is completely differ by it. Real seafood lover will not recommemd it by quality and quantity also. Beacuse of ambience and place of kothrud unnecessary if u are ready to empty ur pocket then u cam enjoy it. At some level we can ignore the cost and quantity issue. But here in special malvani thali only single flat piece of surmai u will get with 2 pieces of prawns in very small bowls, if u are hardlover of sea food u will not satisfy. otherwise ok for single person, fish with rice lover doesn't like gachka rice. Only ambience is very good. Though it is called मालवणी dish, it was far away from malvani taste. It is my personal opinion, fish dish rates are not fixed, today apprx 230 gm surmai piece with all thali sub parts were costed 849 rs. As per my opinion it was not worth. It need to improve more about taste and quantity with respect to uts price. U cant get half dish of fish items, half rice. So overall for taste it is 3of 5, quantity-price 2 of 5. if u want some different near by u if price as per quantity and different taste is not issue then...

It's a new place. That I can understand but a seafood restaurant and that also after waiting fo4 almost 45 mins and then getting raw fish is really not acceptable. We sent the fish back only to get a tasteless deep-fried Pomfret. The Surmai was also not cooked well, for that matter. We did not take anything else. Ate half the food and left. It was packed that day, but we were sitting just next table to the cash counter and we were polite but loud about the food and I am definitely sure they manager and other people from the restaurant heard us, but no one really bothered to ask for any feedback and we were really not in a mood to give any (as they did not look interested anyway) the curry in the thali also quite okay okay kinds and solkadhi also not really to the mark. I won't really not want to go again or totally write off the place based on one bad day, but that going back is going to be after a really long time for sure. There are many brilliant seafood specialists in and around this area and if the owners here don't wake up soon I am afraid it might be too late.
