Jagaat Bhaari Kolhapuri, located on Satara Road opposite City Pride in Pune, is a renowned establishment celebrated for its authentic Maharashtrian delicacy—Akkha Masoor. This dish, paired with their signature butter roti, has garnered widespread acclaim among locals and visitors alike.
Akkha Masoor: A Culinary Delight
Akkha Masoor, a traditional Maharashtrian lentil curry made from whole masoor dal (brown lentils), is the star attraction at Jagaat Bhaari Kolhapuri. The lentils are meticulously cooked to achieve a tender yet firm texture, absorbing the rich blend of spices that define this dish. Patrons frequently praise its robust flavor and authentic preparation.
Butter Roti: The Perfect Companion
Complementing the Akkha Masoor is the restaurant's famed butter roti. Noted for its substantial size and delightful texture, the roti can be enjoyed in two distinct styles:
Crisp Plain Roti: Ideal for those who appreciate a crunchy bite, this version offers a satisfying contrast to the lentil curry.
Soft Butter-Dipped Roti: For a richer experience, the roti is generously dipped in butter, resulting in a soft and indulgent accompaniment.
This versatility caters to diverse palates, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Ambiance and Service
The establishment maintains a straightforward and unpretentious ambiance, focusing primarily on delivering quality food. While the seating arrangement is modest, it effectively accommodates the steady stream of patrons. The service is notably swift, a testament to the restaurant's efficiency and the limited yet perfected menu.
Jagaat Bhaari Kolhapuri's commitment to a concise menu allows them to specialize and excel in their offerings. This approach ensures that each dish, particularly the Akkha Masoor and butter roti, is prepared with consistent quality and authenticity. Such dedication has solidified the restaurant's reputation as a must-visit spot for enthusiasts of traditional Maharashtrian cuisine.
For those seeking an authentic taste of Maharashtra, Jagaat Bhaari Kolhapuri provides a memorable culinary experience centered around their signature Akkha Masoor and butter roti. Read moreWe recently visited Jagat Bhari Kolhapuri (Swargate branch) on 27-April-2025 evening time and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience.
Initially, we requested a table for 5 people, which was provided without any issues. As we were finishing our meal, two more family members joined us and sat at the same table. One of us was still eating when a staff member — the one responsible for noting down customer names and headcount at the entrance — approached us very rudely. He told us that since we had initially informed them about 5 people, they would not serve food to the two additional family members who joined us. Mind you, they were sitting at the same table we had already booked and were not causing any inconvenience or disturbance to others.
I have visited many restaurants over the years, but I have never witnessed such poor customer handling and lack of basic hospitality. Whoever owns this restaurant seriously needs to educate their staff on how to behave with customers. The attitude shown by the staff made the place feel no better than a roadside tapri. It was utterly shameful how that person asked us to leave and refused to serve us while we were peacefully sitting at our table.
We visit restaurants not just for food but for a pleasant experience — sadly, this place completely failed to deliver that. If you really want to get a sense of their overall standards, just go and check the cleanliness of their bathroom — it speaks volumes about their attitude towards hygiene and customer care.
Extremely disappointed. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their customer...

Like the name suggests, its the best. The menu is small and limited. But the satisfaction is unlimited. Pricing is moderate to low. The ambience isn't as good but what do you expect when the restaurant is adjacent to a busy road.
Each table gets a dedicated server. Your order is served within 10 minutes of you being seated.
They provide the best rotis. They are crisp and cooked to a perfection. The curry or akkha masoor is awesome. It's spicy, buttery and tastes like heaven. Though I would suggest you let the waiter know how spicy you want the curry. Its better to be cautious if you cannot handle your spice. Also you you like to experiment with your food, order the fry onions and mix as much you like with the akkha masoor. The rice or as they describe it, Khushka Rice is also great. In desserts they have what they call Doodh cold drink. Its basically vanilla ice cream watered down and made into a smoothie.
All in all its a very good experience. In and out you can't take more than a...
