Mekong Folks — Restaurant in Pune

It’s situated in the ground floor of a tech building. As you enter the security guides you to the valet parking. You need to opt for them irrespective of choice. Once you are out the car, you need to pay 50/- as the valet parking charges. I drive a IMT car and never comfortable handing it to a 3rd person. So when these types of situations arrive where you don’t have the option to opt out is really disappointing and that to forcefully pay of the service as well. I want to clarify again I am okay to pay for the parking but not for the mandatory valet. If the management of the restaurant is reading through this kindly understand there should be opt in/opt out service as per the customer needs. If this can be taken care of well and good.

Moving on the ambience of the place : Top notch. Very premium seating. Soothing music.

Food: Again 10/10. Tried the sushi and burnt garlic prawn with almonds. Ordered 2 drinks: 1 mocktail and 1 cocktail (cosmopolitan).

Cocktail was delayed beyond my patience. Had to recheck with waiter and then it was prepared and served. It was extremely bitter and diluted.

New Pan Asian place alert for Baner folks in Pune!! Well, let’s not get too ahead of us and see what we have in store here ;) Reasonable for some, expensive for others, is this place worth the moolah ? Let’s find out. Trigger warning: I have super high standards for places that serve pan Asian because they’re all about flavours and textures! Does Mekong Folks live upto it? Well yes and no. The sushis as you can see in the picture wasn’t the most presentable plate, but palette wise it was OMG KILL ME NOW good! The cocktails didn’t quite make any inventory remark on me and left me thinking well, what’s new??? Then we played around with the flavours a little and the wantons were pretty average with very little prawns filling inside whereas the dim sums and the sauce it was delivered in was exceptionally good! With the Baos, honestly I was again disappointed with how little the filling inside was. Literally finished them in a bite :) Now to answer your question, is this place worth the moolah ? We have always ordered at home from here and the food has been great. However, when we went to this place last night with a reservation, they said they had only an outside place available with or without reservation. The Inside tables are only for larger groups even though there were tables for 2. They never mentioned that the outside area is a smoking zone which we were totally not okay with. There were too many mosquitoes which after complaining, they put some agarbattis, but took quite some time to do so. We ordered the raw papaya salad which had rancid peanuts in it. The salad was really good, but the taste was totally spoilt with rancid peanuts probably kept in some plastic jar/bag for too long. The Mekong veg sushi was alright - wasabi was too little and way too mild. Apparently, alcoholic drinks are not allowed outside - which again were never told of earlier till we ordered. The kiwi lime iced tea was good and fruity, but didn't have tea flavour.

Overall, we didn't have a good experience. We left without the mains or further order to another...
