Being originally from Kolhapur, we were really excited to try the authentic Kolhapuri thali started by Purepur Kolhapur. We ordered two mutton fry thalis, expecting that rich, spicy, perfectly cooked taste Kolhapur is known for. But honestly, it was a huge disappointment. The mutton was not cooked properly at all..it was tough and chewy. When we mentioned this to the waiter, he casually said, “Asach asta mutton.” We were shocked because we know exactly how authentic mutton fry is supposed to taste and this was nowhere close. The owner asked the waiter to get it cooked again, but when it came back, it was the same.. undercooked and tasteless. Even the pandhara rassa was disappointing.. it was just white in colour, completely lacking flavour and depth. The chapatis too were far from authentic. Kolhapuri chapatis are supposed to be round, soft, and made from wheat. Instead, they served square-shaped ones made with a mix of maida and wheat, more like a laccha paratha. Seriously, laccha paratha with Kolhapuri mutton fry? Since we couldn’t eat the mutton, they offered to serve us chicken biryani, saying we would like it. But again, the biryani had no taste, no flavour, and the chicken was undercooked.
In short, they’ve definitely put effort into the ambience, but the food quality and authenticity were extremely disappointing. It felt like a place focused more on presentation than genuine Kolhapuri taste. Honestly, there are much better options in Pune for a real Kolhapuri...
Read moreThe food is an absolute 8/10 . That is high praise to be honest and absolutely well deserved. The thali is perfect, the sukkat was excellent,
But ...the thecha was subpar (felt very less like lavangi mirchi and felt more like generic low heat one and seemed wierdly oily) and the sol kadi was a lil dull (felt like the kokum was just for colour, and not usre but neither the ajwain nor the hint of garlic came through the reason i said 8/10).
The mutton is perfect and the kheema is beautiful. I over ate (3 jowar bhakris, though Imwoild have wanted bajra bhakri for the mutton but its not an issue. Jowar rocks regardless)
Thank you pune for at least one good place for dinner (irony that it ended up being Kolhapuri)
Remember people 'Kolhapuri Thali' is the definition of Love itself. That pandra rasaa (omg 9/10 because 10/10 is reserved for Sahyadri hotel in kolhapur near st bus stand, hope it has retained the quality) and kheema (wish i could get some more of that, it had the perfect blend of spices I...
Read morePurepur kolhapur is not a new name for Punekar. But the visit to this one is totally disappointing and terrible experience. The uncooked thik jwari bhakari, like never seen before. They tried to change twice being uncooked, which I liked as a service and they didn't argue about the change or it being uncooked. I opted for Chapati alternatively, but chapati was machine made parathas, as shared by the owner. Cut in square shape and like shallow fried or cooked but to get khari like texture was effort made but failed attempt and was horrified experience. The taste Nothing like kolhapuri for the egg curry I have eaten. Also the rice was hard with separated grained and didn't feel like softly cooked Indrayani rice.. Only the ambience made but not well maintained though it is still new. Strongly NOT recommended, no value for the money at all. No satisfaction and really regret the value spend for this non deserved...
