A Timeless Culinary Gem – Hotel Vaidya Misal
Stepping into Hotel Vaidya Misal feels like stepping into a time capsule of authentic Maharashtrian flavors and old-world charm. Nestled in a modest, vintage setting, this place is not just a restaurant—it’s a living memory of tradition, taste, and timelessness.
We visited recently and were instantly struck by the nostalgic ambiance. The walls, the seating, the aroma—everything whispers stories of decades past. While enjoying our meal, we had the rare pleasure of speaking with a gentleman who had returned to this very spot after 42 years. His eyes lit up as he looked around and said, “It’s all exactly the same.” That one sentence spoke volumes about the consistency and authenticity this place has preserved over the years.
Now, let’s talk about the food—because that’s where Hotel Vaidya truly shines. We ordered their signature Misal, accompanied by Shev and the delicate, melt-in-your-mouth Kharvas. The misal was a perfect symphony of spice, texture, and flavor—fiery yet balanced, with a depth that only comes from a recipe honed over generations. The shev added a delightful crunch, and the kharvas was a sweet, silky contrast that rounded off the meal beautifully.
Every bite was a reminder of why traditional food, made with love and without shortcuts, stands the test of time. There’s no pretense here—just honest, soul-satisfying food served in a place that feels like home.
If you’re someone who appreciates culinary heritage, or simply wants to experience misal the way it was meant to be, Hotel Vaidya Misal is a must-visit. It’s not just a meal—it’s a memory...

Ambience - Beautiful if you like the old style food houses with huge wooden log ceilings. White marble table (some now replaced with black granite) n simple wooden chairs. You will find a couple of grandpa's walking in happily with their friends. Personally I feel it adds to the vibe of this place. The owner that the counter had this amazing calm and expression of contentment on this face.
Food - Misal, Patal Bhaji, Batata Bhajji, Kharwas, Taak. Surprisingly they don't serve tea being in Pune. We ordered for Misal served with 2 bread slices. Misal is batata bhaji topped with sev and usal. Now, somethings about the rassa. It's made in green masala, a bit sweet, garnished with fresh coriander a little grated coconut. The usal is like a broth very soupy and watery. Unlike the laal bhadak and tikhat one may be used to. This one is the Brahman style cooking. The batata bhajji is a hit. Hot crispy and delicious for a winter morning in Pune. All said I would prefer the regular Laal Bhapka Tikhat Misal to this one. . Pricing - 40-80 range. We paid Rs.220 for 2 Misal and 1 Batata Bhajji. They accept Gpay/Paytm . Seating & Hygiene - Seating area looked decent and clean. About 20 people could easily fit it.
Parking is just around on the road as most of the pune lanes.
It's not wheelchair friendly it has about 6-7 steps to get in

Read moreIf you're a food lover exploring Pune’s rich culinary heritage, Vaidya Upahar Gruha in Budhwar Peth is an absolute must-visit. Located at 767, Bagade Road, this iconic eatery is more than just a place to eat — it’s an experience that connects you to the cultural soul of old Pune. The moment you step inside, you're greeted with the rustic charm of a traditional Wada-style setting, evoking memories of a time when food was both simple and soulful. I visited this place specifically to try their famous Misal, and it lived up to the buzz in every way — yet surprised me with its unique twist. Unlike the usual fiery red Misal you’ll find across Maharashtra, Vaidya’s version comes with a soothing green 'sample' or 'tarri', which is more like a flavorful soup than a spicy gravy. It's warm, comforting, and yes — you can actually drink it like soup! It’s mildly spiced, yet rich in flavor and depth. The Misal plate, priced at ₹100, includes a beautiful medley of gathi shev, poha chiwda, pohe, batata slices, and the iconic green tarri, served with pav (bread). The portion is satisfying and the taste is genuinely different — not just for the sake of being unique, but truly refreshing to the palate. This is not your everyday Misal — it’s one that tells a story. It blends tradition, nostalgia, and simplicity on a plate. If you’re in Pune, this spot is definitely worth visiting at least once for a different but delightful...
